It is not profitable enough to publish them in the west because the fanbase is relatively niche and a lot of the games would have to wrestle with licensing issues not present in Asia.

Banpresto created OG games to get around licensing and we still don't get them. If you want to talk about niche market I remember Atlus always bitched about how they couldn't localize these games because of the amount of voice acting involved. I can't think of a single person who would want one of these games with a shitty dub.

Well, there always has to be a reason.
None of the From mecha games, aside from the US president one, had any problems getting abroad.
Neither do new games done by indies like Project NImbus, Code: Hardcore, Dual Gear,... have any issues with getting the games abrod give their completely virtual nature.

Maybe From Software can revive them with Armored Core since their brand is so goddamn popular all they have to do is slap "From the developers of Dark Souls and Bloodborne" on the box to instantly draw attention to it.

The other reason is it's just kind of seen as too anime outside of Japan and sci-fi at that and sci-fi hasn't really been in vogue since the mid 90's. I mean sure yeah you get the odd Star Wars and Star Trek movie but it's not really the same in the latter's case since their kind of dumb action films with a sci-fi skin much like most "mecha anime" nowadays are typical waifu or music commercials with a mecha skin slapped on somewhere where the only one that even seems to still get merchandise and models and that is Gundam which is the only even remotely healthy mecha franchise possibly on the planet right now unless you consider Transformers mecha.

Most mecha games aren't distinct enough from other actions games or RPGs or whatever.
You could replace robots with dudes and nothing would fundamentally change in the game other than character models. For mecha games to be good there should mecha features in the game, like ability to go in and out of mechs, fighing enemies other than other mechs like tanks or humans, or something like that.

You can customize colors and certain shapes on the mecha.

Gundam Breaker man, thrash mobile suits, get parts, build crazy custom suits. Its plays like a beat em up for the most part, but its still pretty fun and the customization is dope.
