You can straight-up watch some let's plays of 1 and 2, play Nier and 3 if you want, combat is ranging from pretty bad to okay in the series, so there's no shame in skipping it.
Hello friend , I don't know but I'm bumping your thread
Thanks guy
If you have strong resistance for utter shit gameplay and music, go ahead and play it. Otherwise just read the lets play for what the fuss is about.
What about the story? Does it have different endings like both Nier games?
Yes many of them. The story isn't that particularly interesting, just the characters I guess. All the endings are in lets play archive's article though. All other Drakengard's don't have any redeeming qualities though expect maybe for weird final bosses. Nier is probably better checking out.
Kill yourself.
>How do I go about getting everything I can from this game?
By watching an LP. It's not worth suffering through this game.
Drakengard's gameplay is pure shit im every single way, but the story is something magical with its final ending(although pretty stupid). It's a step that Taro had to take to eventually make Nier.
>How do I go about getting everything I can from this game?
Like any other game, by fucking playing it.
There are 5 endings and you will need a guide for the last one, because you need to get all the weapons and some of them are just impossible to get without the guide. That last ending is the one from where Nier comes from, so it's the most important one
No, you kill yourself
Why the fuck would anyone torture themselves with a shitty gameplay?
It's a wonderful experience.
I don't know how much free time you have but I ended up playing this game between other games and took me about a year to finish with everything. Some Drakengard sessions can be of 1 hour or two in one level with the same song loops.
We're all cheering for you OP. Don't give up.
I love this game. The gameplay is a mess, the story doesn't make sense most of the time and the soundtrack sucks dodongo balls and everything is super tedious. But I still love it, I think it has a charm of its own, something that I've found that only Taro managed to do with his games. All in all however I suggest you to not play it, but if you really wanna do it, look up a guide to get all the weapons and don't play on the pal version.
I'm with this guy here. Cool stories aside these games were dated and shitty when they released. Nier is as "okay" as the combat gets. I can't believe Nier Automata is actually SHMUP tho. I fucking love SHMUPs.
Dude, check out the lets play from TheDarkId on the drakengard games. They're fucking hilarious and give you all the info you need on the story and what not. If you insist on playing them, they're mediocre, and get extremely repetitive extremely quickly. That being said some of the endings are just crazy, though it's doubtful you'll be up for playing through it all to see them.
OP here. I have high enough tolerance for bad games, so I'll probably trudge through it. Especially if there's a good enough payoff at the end.
>payoff
I hope you're good at rhythm games.
This is a trash game, I'm afraid you have been memed by Sup Forums

Feel free to spare yourself.
Unlike the the third game, you just need to look up and memorize the final pattern.
Unless you REALLY trudge through it your payoff will be progressively worse endings. At least they get progressively more fucked up too though
seeing this shit more and more holy fuck why user WHY
D1 is the only Taro game I really liked. The let's play posters are mostly just salty that they were too pussy for the actual game. Believe me, it's much more of an experience than it is a bunch of cutscenes and dialogue like these shitposters would have you believe.
I wonder why someone would ever "watch" a game under any circumstance though? There's nothing more fake than pretending you've played a game.

I enjoyed the game a good amount myself, but certain stages really made it feel old, and what really carried me through it character dialogues during gameplay and wanting to read the stories of various weapons you pick up (not to mention how fun it was to watch weapons evolve, Drakenguard 2 fucked up by already making them fully evolved.) Thankfully the dragon stages were atleast always fun to go through.
Manah still remains one of the most annoying, but deeply unsettling villains I've ever encountered.
Ever considered killing yourself?
You should.
