Noob question: Does dying alot reduce how much soul I can collect? Is there a way to revert this? Or is my game just bugged

I've got to the Colosseum of Fools and I've done the first trial - it says one of the rewards is a charm notch, but after I beat it I don't get anything but money.

Am I doing something wrong?

Aesthetically I can see where that impression came from but gameplay-wise it doesn't really play like a Souls clone. There's no stamina management of any kind and combat isn't very similar to either.

So by now Its clear there's a cult of Unn in Greenpath, and something about a great mind and green children. The Mosskin are not immune to infection, but it seems like they are still able to stand as a civilization considering the Moss Knights still protect and revere Unn, and the moss priest and his cohort are still there before they get killed by infection.

So just sold all my kings idols and shit I found throughout the game and immediately lost everything when I got lost in the shitheap that is the Royal Waterways. Haven't had to grind in this game and I'm just wondering if I'll need to buy anything.

Yes. Death will "shatter" the top portion of your soul vessel, thus preventing you from passing beyond 66% capacity. Murdering the soul (or paying, via Rancid Eggs, to have the soul murdered for you) should reverse this.

To enter the Tower, you need the Love key. If you haven't found that yet, you have to rely on listening for worm cries.
I don't remember where the Love Key is. I found it and carried it around for hours until I finally found out what it was for.

There should be, but they have a large amount of things to fix and they probably don't want to patch the game multiple times, so it might be a few days still

No it isn't.

Soul Sanctum side area for the spell upgrade.

Love Key is in the Queen's Gardens, above where you can find the Shrub Priest or whatever it's called. Need to come from within the Gardens itself and not the Fungal side.

Spell Twister, Deep Focus and Shape of Unn. I don't remember where I got the first two. Shape of Unn is in Lake of Unn, in Greenpath. You need the ability to swim in acid.

Its definitely doable, but it certainly won't be pleasant. These guys guard one of the dreamers, so maybe try going somewhere else if you don't care about that right now

So I just watched a youtube video of the first trial. It seems the notch drops from Zote, but when I just did it, he didn't spawn. Maybe it's not a bug, you just have to trigger Zote to be in the arena?

Yes, it does produce a shade.
But the shade is found in the lower left room rather than the actual Colosseum.

Your shade is in a side room left of the bench

Should I go to the poisonous water place or the ice place first?

I got the notch while not having fred Zote so he didn't spawn, so its not related. I redid the thing later and did defeat Zote.

Its a well known bug, it just seems random wether it happens to people or not

Poisonous water place has an exploration sidegrade if you look hard enough to find its secret area, so I'd suggest there first as it'll open up your options.

I'm pretty sure I got the one from Deepnest, and I was lucky my game didn't bug so I got the one from the Colosseum too. Can't think of where the last one would be. Got all 50 grubs and 1800 essence so I got those ores as well.

How many Pale Ore exist within the entire game?

Just got to the teleporting wizard boss. Is he a 3 part thing? Going smaller twice and then finally dead on the third? Just wondering as I got him to shrivel twice and hoping I was close to beating him, damn lag got me.
