Is it just me or is the combat in this game incredibly boring. I just got the punch guy and I don't know if I can will myself to keep button mashing forward. Everything chains into everything else in a monotonous blob, soul management is a pain and weaknesses overcomplicate things without actually being fun because every combo feels the same.

Am I doing something wrong? Does the game get any better? It feels more shallow than Phantasia so far.

I kept hearing that Berseria is a return to form for the series but I just can't stand it. Everything about it so far has been so dull and I don't see what can change to make it any better. I mean, there haven't even been any puzzles in the "dungeons" yet. The crystal cavern, the jail and this new cave I'm in has just been big empty rooms full of enemies. Everything feels watered down and dull.

I think the combat is fun. Stuff like utilizing break souls to continue your combo, build stun (Rokurou's is particularly good for this since his counter builds stun significantly) or setup for other characters (sometimes Eizen maybe won't be able to knockdown an enemy for his BS, so you switch to Eleanor or Rokurou to down them and then switch back to Eizen to hit his BS). Shuffling around characters usually adds to Tales combat but I find it makes Berseria particularly fun, throughout my playthrough I think I played every character except Laphicet a fair amount. Getting switch blasts also helps since you start also switching in characters from the bench while using a break soul as they come in. I like putting together arte trees that flow well while hitting a particular set of ailments / elemental weaknesses for an area but I've seen some people not like constantly shuffling around artes, so I guess that's just preference.
