I think Nintendo laid a good foundation with BotW and ALBW about how to take the Zelda formula and make it linear-less
If anything. I believe that by the end Switch Life Cycle we will see a Zelda that will take the best element of both and improve it. basically. take BotW. add themed Dungeons and maybe the rent Mechanic for special/ weird items
Jayden Anderson
Will we get a direct sequel/spinoff like MM was to OoT for BotW?
Nicholas Smith
>BotW Yes >ALBW No. On what planet is LITERALLY REUSING AN ENTIRE WORLD from a decades old game, making the game piss easy because you're afraid players won't be able to handle nonlinearity (whereas in BoTW you can run straight to the final boss), and reusing virtually everything a good formula. It's trash, there's a reason they call it the NSMB of Zelda.
Nolan Howard
Basically, this. As hyped as I am for botw, I can tell it's flawed. What's got me even more hyped is how they can improve upon it.
Juan Perry
Twilight princess ?
Idk but this game covers all the games..
MM stuff I wont spoil but oh man... oh man
Nathan Perry
I wish.
Julian Ramirez
>ALBW
All they did was slap a rental system onto a normal modern Zelda game. It's pure laziness on par with what Bethesda would do.
Sebastian Fisher
The new foundation has genuine problems though
>breakable weapons >menu-based healing
Definitely needs to fucking go.
But I agree, a decent foundation has been set. Let's hope they don't "improve" this for BoTW via DLC expansions (which is actually just cut content from the game.)
Logan Cruz
there is nothing wrong with linearity...
Ian Clark
>BotW >except good bosses and more dungeons Ill take one
I really don't know if they could just do the same game. Obviously it would be in a new part of the timeline but the formula might not work for another game
Easton Morales
>>breakable weapons Is a good thing. The healing is shit though.
Joseph Allen
BotW and some of SS are literally the only Zelda games with bosses that are more interesting than "hit weak point 3 times xD" though. There could have been more dungeons but ultimately quality > quantity.
Isaiah Cox
I think the only Major flaw is the dungeon part.
They basically nailed the over world lay out, travel and exploration.
but the dungeon do can use some work. I get the idea to keep em "simple" so you could run em in any order but with a little extra work they could have keep the old formula 1 Dungeon : 1 Item and just kept the boss out of the "use this to kill him" equation
also the dungeon items can be used to facilitate the world travel while not limiting it. So take X or Y area. you can reach it by normal means, will take longer and a detour, but if you have X or Y item from a dungeon, you can reach it faster
Joshua Flores
We didn't get quality or quantity. We got super short dungeons and the bosses have no real design flow or theme. Finished Waterblight Ganon/Elephant beast and that was like 4 rooms and a boss who didn't really offer much thought except spam spark arrows.
Easton Lewis
what, ALBW is non-linear, what bong you drinkin son?
Logan Edwards
I fucking hope. I want one next year, to see Hyrule and castle town restored with the iconic field music.
This one is a little less likely, but I hope for online multiplayer too. Imagine horse races and cooperative air raids.
Jaxon Miller
Maybe it's just me but I hate it. Gets annoying after a while but I'm still not that far into the game, only completed one dungeon so far. Nice to know that you can upgrade the champion weapons though.
Charles Harris
No, we'll get DLC expansion packs though to keep the fans busy. And lots of them to make up for the fucking insane 5+ year dev times needed to create new console Zelda games now.
And funny that you mention MM, since it was originally planned to be that - a DLC expansion pack.
Jeremiah Roberts
yes but that rental system let you tackle the dungeons in the order you fucking wanted
Menu based healing is nothing different than when you mapped a potion or a fairy bottle to a C. and I liked the idea of breakable weapons. it added a sense of variety to the combat and you utilize all weapon kinds
Landon Miller
>We didn't get quality We did. The main dungeons in BotW are some of the best in the franchise bar none, right up there with killers like Stone Tower Temple. Are you seriously claiming that Van Naboris wasn't great? >the bosses have no real design flow or theme Elaborate.
Jordan Martinez
Exactly. Because it was non-linear they were afraid to give difficulty to anything.
Isaiah Nguyen
>The healing is shit though. the healing is just to balance out the fact that you no longer get hearts on hte wild. I mean, is not like the fucking game didnt stopped when you pulled out a bottle to drink a potion or some shit. and till you get at least 6 heart. most enemies or a mis step gets you instakilled before you can pause to heal
Mason Cox
sounds fucking terrible. they should just get a new IP. they don't know what to do with this series anymore.
Austin Bennett
I hate breakable weapons.
>Find a weapon you like >It breaks so you're forced to use weapons you like less
Ideally, you should just get to use what you want to use.
Henry Thompson
Is Link a bomber?
Logan Edwards
In Skyward Sword you had to heal in real time so this definitely feels like a step back.
Wyatt Thomas
I think they making DLC and ussing the BOTW lay out as testing ground will benefit the next zelda down the road
Wyatt Wilson
I think ALBTW's method is shit.
In other games, when you get a new item, it feels like a reward for your effort. "You made it this far and you found a thing, now this thing is yours." In ALBW, there's no fanfare or effort. It's boring.
Luke Gray
Ouch. Not even Nintendo central, aka GameFAQs, care about this.
Mason Richardson
>if they keep the formula unchanged FUCKING REHASH!!!! REEEEEEE!!
>if they start to change the formula ITS NO LONGER MUH GAME!!! JUST MAKE ITS A FUCKING NEW IP!!!! ------------------------------------------------------------------ This is making changes upon the basic formula while keeping the theme intact
is not like fucking FF that went from turn based to poor man DMC
BOTW changed some element but still a pure Action Adventure game
Evan Evans
The only thing I'm sort of worried about is enemy variety. It really would be a shame if the game lacked iconic Zelda enemies, especially ones like Like Likes who would be perfect for eating your weapons. What about fighting Iron Knuckles and stealing their huge axes? That should be the first thing they should've thought of when designing the game.
I just hope that it's a whole load of shitposting because that will really kind of sour what looks to be a perfect game and it's silly to have the reason be that you need to fight enemies that can give you weapons because there's a bunch of enemies in the game who won't give you weapons.
Brody Adams
...
Ryan Clark
There are only three games there of value so there's no real competition. Besides, looking forward to Zelda does not mean buying it.
Isaiah Garcia
I know this is bait but >will you buy the game YES = 19.5% + 10.65% + 29.58% NO = 22.47% + 17.8%
do the math fagget
Adrian Diaz
>yes but that rental system let you tackle the dungeons in the order you fucking wanted
Which is meaningless when it doesn't result in a game with meaningful structure, which is the reason why people wanted Zelda to return to non-linearity in the first place.
Christopher Cruz
You know they can have enemy variety without the old Zelda enemies right? Like Likes wouldn't have worked with this game's limitless bombs, and Iron Knuckle is replaced by the several large heavy weapon enemies you can find in the game. The only old enemies worth keeping are in BotW.
Hunter Carter
I think this game might have the best setup portion to each main dungeon than any other Zelda, but the dungeons themselves are eh. I've done so many shrines that I wasn't surprised by puzzles
Adam Campbell
Why else would you look forward to a game? Only other reason is to pirate it.
Logan Butler
I found the main dungeons to be the best part of the game. Reminder that this is the first 3D Zelda to be made up entirely of non-linear dungeons (OoT and MM had one or two individual instances but mostly were just "go from this room to the next" like Shadow Temple).
William Carter
My favorite part is finding a shrine that surprises me. Getting all my gear taken away and forced to do the trial with nothing, riddles, a fucking giant ass maze with guardians and flying guardians around
Austin Price
many enemies do not fit in BotW or simple for "absorbed" into others
Iron Nuckles/ dark nuts were simple armored things with an Axe or a big sword. this is replicated by Axe Lynles or Moblins
Original Zora's "spit water from within the river" is now an skill of the lizalfos
Kevin Cruz
Skyward sword had hearts and fairies everywhere like a normal Zelda game, and had easier enemies.
I'm fine with real time healing, but they need to keep that to a hard mode like a Master Quest style thing where you have to prep your potions before encounters.
Jeremiah Cox
Also, Assassins. And it's better to have less enemies with more varied movesets than more enemies with only 1 gimmick each IMO.
Lucas Allen
>rent Mechanic That mechanic was so stupid that I farmed up enough rupees to buy them outright every time.
Colton Rogers
>The only thing I'm sort of worried about is enemy variety. It really would be a shame if the game lacked iconic Zelda enemies, especially ones like Like Likes who would be perfect for eating your weapons. What about fighting Iron Knuckles and stealing their huge axes?
Just wait for the DLC expansions user, I'm sure plenty of classic enemies that were cut from the vanilla version will there. :^)
Connor Wright
The reskins have different move sets at least. It's kinda bittersweet, on one hand, Nintendo could've put much more enemies in the game. On the other hand, this gives us something to look forward to in a sequel because it didn't do everything.
I don't have the game. So maybe my opinion will change when I get my hands on it.
Hunter Green
>that I farmed up enough rupees good luck doing that in BotW
Michael Jenkins
>I believe that by the end Switch Life Cycle we will see a Zelda that will take the best element of both and improve it. Delusion. BOTW took over five years of development, skipping an entire console generation. Nintendo lost all their software development competency sometime around Wii.
Henry Allen
>BOTW took over five years of development wait. you mean to tell me that a game wiht a massive open world. applied non scripted physics, a new weapons system, tame system, climb system, weather, day cycle. etc etc etc took longer than teh average Zelda game??? WOW, how can nintendo be this incompetent
Christian Flores
Yeah some shrines are actually huge. Some even have locked doors that require small keys which i'm surprised was even in the game.
Samuel Reyes
>linear-less Nonlinear. Nonlinear is the word you're looking for.
