Well Laphicet is more like a real life kid filled with curiosity(not in annoying sense) rather than shota archetype. He is really likeable.

Is the gameplay/combat fun? I tried the demo and it felt like a spammy clusterfuck, but it might be just that I don't know how to play it right. This would be my first Tales game.

It's a thing but presented as little boy's first crush on an older girl thing.

Combat is enjoyable when you get the hang of it. Using Break Souls and Mystic Arte is fun as hell.

Velvet is a miracle of the universe

You can actually set all the characters to "Auto" so they fight without you doing anything.

the battle system is the most casual firendly this franchises have ever had since graces. it does feels spammy even after figuring out your combos for diferent situations. on higher difficultties you will need to optimize your combos and pay attention to dashing and positioning. berseria plays more like a gundam extreme vs/virtua-on in terms of fightings games

I stopped playing after becoming frustrated with the volcano. Are legendary weapons worth getting? Those base stats are nice but the random skills obviously suck.

New to these games, which characters are the funnest and most effective to use as the player? Besides Velvet, obviously, since she's the only one I've really used thus far.

Also, what is the best party setup in general situations?

everyone else is for variety only

Honestly, everyone is playable if you try. That being said my favorite ones to play are Roukurou and Aizen. Laphicet is fun too once he learns his stronger spells. As for Magilou and Eleanor, some people can do wonders with them, but I can't for the life me do shit.

I only used it for the +30% EXP from dragons (farming the first EX dungeon boss for lvl 200) and because it looked cool.

What do you guys would like to see in the next title? Implementation of some air game would be nice. Maybe alocate one of the buttons to a jump function and allow artes to be used in the air? Or just more "aerial" artes in general.

Roukurou is a strong tank so take him without to boss fights.

She really is. Also the only one who has "Person" type attack for some reason.

Eleanor is super fun, lots of elemental skills and fun spells to work with.

It's never stated what exactly happened to him.

But considering he pretty much whatevered with a god that eats malevolence, it's not weird that he was a cunt to Velvet, who was basically a mass of malevolence.

Now, if it really was Laphicet being a cunt to his older sister, I don't know.

Rokurou is very much the same as Velvet in a sense that they both work the same however most, if not all, of Rokurou's artes has a lot of winding animations which will off-put you, not to mention the artes are wonky and will whiff too. He's not the same as Velvet where literally every arte connects.

Eleanor is almost the same as Rokurou with the exception of having malak artes. By that I mean her martial artes moves her around a lot which makes it hard to connect her artes.

Magilou's hidden artes are fucking slow though she is crazy against spell enemies and Laphicet is a gimped Magilou.

Eizen is the same as Eleanor but his break soul relies on you having to down enemies which ultimately, is bad for boss fights.

Well, it's hard to go wrong, but be careful with letting the AI control Velvet, because it will Break Soul all over the enemies and let the hp drain down to 1 and die easily.

I go with Velvet (me), Magilou, Laphicet and Eleanor.

Magilou and Laphi are great with crowd control, but Eleanor can be replaced.

i find that to be bullshit. Eleanor and Roukurou should have had some as well.

I found Eizen to be very fun to play as, but he's near useless during boss fight so i use Rokurou to replace his position.

I just don't know why I can't seem to do shit with Eleanor. I can get the combos to connect just fine, but she gets stunned very easily and I can't seem to break anyone defense ever. meanwhile my Rokurou seems to cause one status condition/stum every combo. It's really weird. Should I focus more on her spells or something?

If you had to choose between Tales of Berseria and Nier:Automata, which one would you get if you didn' t own any of the games already.

Everyone should, really. It's not like you fight human type enemies once in the game and them be done with it.

Laphicet and Magilou is a must have always because their spells gives pressure to the enemy. As for the other two, Velvet works best if you control her since her AI is dumb as fuck.
Eizen is very good for trash mobs because his break soul deals fuckton of damage.

They're far too different to fairly compare, apples to oranges, and at the end of the day it comes down to personal taste.

Berseria will probably offer far more bang for your buck in in terms of how many hours the average player will get out of it, but Nier will probably be a comparatively more polished and unique experience.

You should focus more on her elements, say, if you fight a snakle weak to fire, the fire lance attack usually stuns.
Her spells are worth it used last in the combo, they come out super fast, save for the earth one, which destroys armored but its better if you go into the combo with it already.

I use the same team as you do though, with occasional switching in Eizen if he hits somebody's weaknesses better than Eleanor.

Yes, but BG drops when you die. If you're playing above moderate, the drop is so high it's almost impossible to keep a full bar until the very end of the game, where you have a max of 6 or 7. Even then, you'd need to die with a full BG meter.

Or you could just use the switch blast title, which stops BG from draining when you die.

So, I'm dissatisfied with the ending, having just beaten the main game last night. I haven't finished Zestiria, though I think Phi as Maotelus plays a pretty big part? What's the chance of a third in-universe game that brings Velvet back? I think it'd be fun to see her, Phi, and Rokurou play off of Sorey, Lailah, and Mikleo.
