Ocarina of Time is the best game ever made

People born in 1989.

bump

The press and players of 1998. Enforced multiple times later on by press and players.

I was born in 88.
My wife was born in 87.
We both love OoT to bits.

1990 babbies

but it wasn't even the best game in 1998, not by far.
In my opinion both half life, MGS, and grim fandango were much better games and if you play them today, they all hold better than Ocarina of Time.

So you and your wife have shit taste, your point?

We want a honest answer? Matt Casamassina.

He was the first to publicly argue that it was the greatest of all time.

...

My point is that the people who praise it now were kids at the time.

I did.

Because I think that it is.
Mario 3 was the best until that.

More like you are trying your hardest to be an edgy wannabe hipster.

How about all those 20-30yo fans and reviewers of the era? Hell, I still got game magazines from those times, and all the major publications praised the game to heavens with some 6 page long reviews. It was also the #1 sold game on all 3 major continents in 98 and 99.

>who started this meme?
Me, it was all me. I'm the one behind this. You can thank me later.

Everyone that played it and isn't braindead or a contrarian

People who played it without any preconceptions.

Nintoddlers who are now buying the switch despite it having zero good exclusives

the magazines that kept listing the most popular games ever made.

Anyone who played it as their first Zelda.

So basically children in '98.

>Anyone who played it as their first Zelda.
It was my third Zelda, and it still is my favorite one. Yes, I've played them all (minus the Panasonic thing) afterwards.

these are your nintendroid arguments. Nintendo did their shill job very good, they trained brain dead idiots over the years and now they aren't even capable of judging and doubting them.

>who started this meme?
Nintendo, when they created the best game ever to date.

this.
an answer like this always gets ignored cause it's actually true.

>I watched my big brother play the old ones but OoT was the first one I really got to play
That doesn't count user.

Journalists in 98.

It was the best game ever created in 1998. Factually speaking. Now its not.

Its some people favorite game still, and they use the fact that it was literally the best at one point to push that its still the best. Its not.

/thread

what argument do I show to that stupid topic?

I hate kids these days

Then which ones are better? Breath of the wild?

...

Kids of 1998. Understand that OoT had functional 3D gameplay at a time where the thing was still preceived as a novelty and it had great, mature artistic direction.

>he is a cuck with a wife that is already 1 year older
>meanwhile be 33 and bang 18 year olds regularly
>going to marry some 16 year old when I am 40, most likely going to switch her out a couple years later

you are a failure as a man, your opinion holds no value

Kids these days have better taste than you

>OoT had functional 3D gameplay at a time where the thing was still preceived as a novelty
what are you on about idiot.
I swear, there's this misconception that oot is older than it actually is.

nobody has any misconception about it, actual 3d gameplay was still a novelty back then

oh yeah, sure!
Tell me, how much did spend today in clash of clans?

>he wants to bone annoying GenZ kids, who will almost certainly end up cucking him and finally ditching you for some rich Russian manwhore with lots of money
>thinking those teens will have any interest or skills in vidya
excuse me while I enjoy my chill live with my huge knockers bearing IRL waifu who's as deeply into vidya and other fun shit as me.

Well I'm born in 89 and FF4 is my favorite

Name ONE game in 1998 that utilize 3D better than OoT.

3D action adventure games, mate.
Try to look up ones released before OoT, and you will realize how revolutionarily smooth and fun it was to play.

Salty kids who didn't get a ps1 and Final Fantasy 7

Bit seriously it's kids who got a 64 instead of a ps1

Half-Life

It's not a meme, it's a fact, you cock sucking little toddler.
I bet you weren't even born when this game came out so everything you say is moot anyway, you little worthless human trash. Now go play Minecraft.

>Salty kids who didn't get a ps1 and Final Fantasy 7
but I did. I dig 7 to bits, but OoT is still better IMO.

>not being an idort since 1993
>shiggy

ISIS is posting on Sup Forums now?
Mohammad you will be shelled to death like the subhuman sandnigger you are in a week anyway and nothing of value will be lost.

Why ?

>Being a "idort" when games like Phantasy Star 4 was like 100 dollars at release (not even counting the difference in value since early 90's)
Must've had super rich parents

kek, no it wasn't.
you are either underage or a consolecuck your whole life.
>Name ONE game
Half-life.ez. do I get a prize for being right?
picrelated is an adventure game that came out a year before OoT

they weren't. And I'm not a yank, nor was I interested in convoluted shit like RPGs at that age.

We mostly swapped our consoles and its games to newer models every few years, but after N64 shipped, I started collecting them for life time keeping.

Majora's mask was better, and even MM is not the best

I got a n64 before my parents divorced, and then I got ps1 from dad after the divorce, ps1 hooked me a lot more with tomb raider, heart of darkness, crash and final fantasy

>nintendroids acting all grown up and tough
this shit gets me every time

>who started this meme?
people who never played vidya prior to 1998, and brain dead nintedrois whose only outlet to gaming was the nintendo magazine.

>picrelated is an adventure game that came out a year before OoT
and its tile-based movement system is quite clunky in comparison.

only thing that interested me in PS1 were FF7, Resident Evil, and later on Silent Hill.

It had charm because of its characters and artstyle but it would have been better as an anime since it's gameplay was inferior to alttp

Ocarina of Time

It is.

>and its tile-based movement system is quite clunky in comparison.
so having slightly above average controls for the time makes it the best game of all times?

>all these Sonyggers in denial thinking that "only" underages of late 90s would've hyped OoT to heavens

>Grim Fandango
>good

>t. pleb
are you fucking serious?

Not an argument.

it has aged like cake dropped into milk with its lid off in the mediterranean

I really enjoy the story but I can't enjoy it when I'm spending literally three hours trying to figure out a hopelessly esoteric puzzle just so I can hear some dialogue and advance the plot a little further.

Slightly above average controls that a lot of action adventure games, RPG etc. would still be using today?
Sure

>MGS
>grim fandango

>games
????

well yes, the whole p&c adventure game genre has aged poorly. But it's still good at what it does, meaning it's a very good point and click adventure game.
And Manny is such a "grown up" character that you rarely see in games, even today. There is no arteficial complexity to him, he's an ordinary man, but his will and determination to do things right once in his life/death gives a game a timeless charm.
that's just my personal rambling tho, but I really like the game. Still wouldn't call it THE BEST OF ALL TIME like some...

they have as much of a simplistic gameplay as any zelda game. shut it idiot

>after dominating the previous two generations Nintendo gets blown the fuck out by Sony
>managed to halt progress or take their established franchises into "new", awful directions from which they never recovered
>Mario 64 is objectively the worst Mario game, and is a soulless husk compared to SMW and SMW2
>brought absolutely nothing to the Mario canon
>transitioning Zelda and Donkey Kong Country to 3D was equally disastrous
>Zelda never recovered, actually a miracle that Tropical Freeze managed to be decent
>only reason Metroid was spared was because one of its creators found the N64 controller too confusing
>that series was later rebooted as a generic FPS and has since ceased to exist
>pretty much all the developers responsible for the classic and most memorable SNES games jumped ship to PSX
>N64's library was pitiful as a result
>players were so starved for games they had to delude themselves into believing the games they had were somehow the pinnacles of their respective genres
>they genuinely believe Goldeneye is somehow more influential than the myriad of legendary PC FPS games that preceded it
>Nintendo proceeded to get obliterated by Sony AGAIN in the next generation
>only thing keeping them afloat is the general homogenization between their competitors and their few fans who refuse to stop clinging to their beloved childhood franchises no matter how bad they get

Was the N64 truly the end for Nintendo?

>realize how revolutionarily smooth and fun it was to play.
I bought OoT on release. And I fucking hated it compared to ALTTP, and I tried quite hard to like it and keep forcing myself to play.
I felt the 3D hurt the game more than it helped it, compared to ALTTP.
I'd already played Quake etc on the PC, so the 3D in and of itself was not particularly novel to me.

Same way I felt about Halo 1, mostly. Just... overrated by people who lacked perspective.

>And I fucking hated it compared to ALTTP, and I tried quite hard to like it and keep forcing myself to play.
Funny. I had the exact opposite experience.
Played LttP, but never truly enjoyed it. No idea why the fuck nostalgic fags praise it so much. Easily the worst 2D Zelda to date.

youtu.be/duPynkGEFGI

>250 lapis pull, gold - it's Nine
>blow a ticket, gold - it's Nine again
>blow two more tickets - Cinque x 2

That was painless, don't have to bother with this shitty banner at all anymore

Hello Arin. What didn't you like about it?

Any 2d zelda is better than this game

Ocarina became the benchmark for the action adventure genre, and was a hell of an experience when it was released. The only people who say otherwise were more than likely born in 1998.

it's not even the best zelda game

>they genuinely believe Goldeneye is somehow more influential than the myriad of legendary PC FPS games that preceded it
Name ONE (1) FPS that wasn't a Doom-clone that broke 1 million sales before Goldeneye did.

FYI Goldeneye sold 8 million

kek. when nintedroids just repeat buzzwords and don't know shit. you are literally brain dead sheep.

I bet you unironically think Witcher is a good game too

People who haven't played pic related

Dude you dropped your fedora.

no, I actually despise the last one.
but funny how your new zelda looks just like TW3 in it's design. barren fields filled with the same group of enemies who are protecting worthless loot.
definitely game of the decade material.

they just love to eat shit
>nintendo announced botw in 2011 for their upcoming console(wii u)
>some people fall for it
>6 fucking years later they release botw with a new piece of shit console to scam their customers and it has paid online on top of that

I can't even...

The original Tomb Raiders did not age well at all.

neither did OoT if we are being honest

It definitely aged better than Tomb Raider did, plus there's still the 3DS remake.

Breath of the Wild broke a lot of records in the history of gaming. By that, I mean it is most likely impossible to find one thing wrong with this game. It's like Nintendo took the base of Ocarina of Time and modernize it to make it look like this game over here. This is why Nintendo will forever remain in my heart no matter where it all goes. I'm telling you this, Breath of the Wild has everything... yes, every... single... thing that made Ocarina of Time look like a masterpiece. This is the lost brother of Ocarina of Time and the true brother Ocarina of Time will ever need. Just go buy this game, it wants your money so bad, it wants you to play it so bad, it wants to be your local friend literally bad. I'll be waiting until you get this game.

>Breath of the Wild broke a lot of records in the history of gaming
like what, for instance?

Actually Gen Z is the most conservative generation since WWII.
Millennials, on the other hand...

>only muslims want to marry prime women

Let me guess you unronically think 16 is "pedo tier"

>like what, for instance?
>no answer
what a surprise.

By that, I mean it is most likely impossible to find one thing wrong with this game.

I literally wrote it in the comment.

Learn to read. LOL you can't read, so funny. LOL.

>It was the best game ever created in 1998.
>what is Thief: The Dark Project

Thief.
>Better use of verticality
>doesn't rely on a Z button to target enemies
>rope arrow mechanics
>shadows and sound are a huge part of the stealth mechanics

mah nigga

>a 20-30 fps game is the best game ever made
take that fpsfags

COUNTAH CULTCHYA

OoT was much more mind blowing at the time and more important to the evolution of video games. If you weren't playing at release then you'd be unimpressed.

but why? just cause you say something doesn't make it true! why was it "mind blowing"? why was it "more important to the evolution of video games"? what makes it special. There are almost 100 reply on this thread and nobody can make a solid argument as to why this game is the best ever?
so far the only reason is that it had better controls than the other adventure games until 1998. that's hardy a feat for a game that's the best one ever.

So the n64 was like the ps4 with OOT being Bloodborne?

It was quality. The music, sounds, graphics, and gameplay were all 10/10 at the time. That fucking targeting though.
It was a grand adventure and the story kept you hooked. It played the smoothest out of any other console action game. Everything just went right and it was what everyone dreamed of.

holy fucking shit!
how can you praise the game's audio design when it wasn't even voice acted. It was simplistic and dull compared to what sound was like in half life and thief, but yes, it had nice music.

graphics weren't anything special at the time. just scroll through this tread and see the examples of games that objectively had better quality graphics than OoT.
And gameplay was well executed, but it was simplistic and non challenging as ever.

a game like that can not be THE BEST OF ALL TIME. come on man, open your fucking eyes.
