Redpill me on chromatic aberration
Redpill me on chromatic aberration
a literal aberration
Justifiable/understandable in smaller budget or indie games.
terrible 99% of the time. Games like bloodborne are a good example on how to do it right
>overusing it the entire game is a good example on how to do it right
wait...you can play as an asari now?
99% of games with it shouldn't have it
lmao this delusion. BB can really do no wrong in the eyes of sonyggers
It doesn't make games look more real, or better in any way.
used as a second antialiasing filter to hide jaggies. Nothing special looks horrible as nearly all aa methods, thats why people arepushit 4k.
Redpill me on redpills.
Alright. get this. It's a fucking mess.
Personally I hate all camera lens simulation effects and disable them when possible. The point of a game is to simulate what the human eye sees, not a cheap camera with a shit lens. And the human eye automatically corrects and removes the perception of chromatic aberration.
This. BB is a masterpiece, funny how pcucks are still butt hurt because they will never ever get it
It worked in Alien Isolation and RE7 because it fit thematically. I don't understand its implementation in Bloodborne, Arkham Knight and Dying Light.
was popularized with skyrim enb mods. It's also literally a fucking defect that photographers and self respecting cinematographers get rid off.
Very rarely used well.
i just realized CA will make games look basically exactly as shitty at 4k resolutions as at normal resolution wouldnt it?
unless they let you turn it off or tighten it up by a scale of 4 times, because its sort of like a shitty antialiasing effect like FXAA and blurs everything
>tfw I have chromatic aberration in real life already
>games add even more
are you joking? bb is one of the worst games in using chromaberration
chromaberration is seriously a disgusting mistake, there's NO good use of it yet
If it makes sense in it's implementation, I'm all for it (I'll probably turn it off anyways if given the option, though).
nuDOOM's also worked well because of the fact that the entire game is supposed to be viewed through doomguy's visor.
it's a very computationally cheap post-processing effect that a bunch of suits in the major publishers decided looked impressive to normies.
while I can't understand why you'd want to simulate an effect of cheap lenses, I understand the temptation to add a further sort of blur effect to help hide low fps even more.
bloodborne looks real weird with CA. Alien:Isolation is a much better example of doing chromatic abberation right
Alien Isolation is the ONLY game that has done it right
bloodborne was shit with it what are you talking about
>to help hide low fps even more.
it hides aliasing and jaggies ie low resolution, you neanderthal
He's actually partially right
Designers have been using it as an extension of motion blur in a few cases increases the distances of the aberration from the object, it helps hide jitters, framerate fluctuations without object blur
Bloodborne is probably one of the worst if not the worst case of poorly used Chromatic aberration.
Not that it's a good feature in general.
>photographers and filmmakers spend volumes of effort eliminating chromatic aberration
>games add it back in
In the trash along with most depth of field, bloom, and motion blur.
Agreed. There are plenty of times where it can be used to artistic effect, just like how DoF, bloom, and blur can be used in moderation to make a game look better.
Most of the time I don't like any of them. I also hate postprocessing antialiasing. I like my games to feel as clear and responsive as possible, and these graphics effects lend a layer of disconnect to the experience.
It's very abberating
...
I don't notice anything in this
I was just messing around with it, dont remember if I even had it off in that screenshot or not
hurts my fucking eyes
It's hard to explain that to people who don't play a lot of games with CA so I have this saved.
