How does /v feel about this so far? From what I have seen it looks somewhat promising, it reminds me a lot of system shock.
How does /v feel about this so far? From what I have seen it looks somewhat promising...
I like prey 1 more
I think it's not a secret that they are insipred by system shock
finally someone is going to do what levine could not
I have my eye on it. It looks like Bio/Systemshock meets Dead Space. Gonna wait and see the overall reception is before buying it. Hopefully it's good.
Sadly with the state of the gaming industry I don't ever really expect any game to be good anymore.
I like what they've shown. Just wish they could have included gravity stuff like wallwalking, as that was a big thing in the original Prey. It would have fit with the space and alien quirk stuff.
I don't trust them after D2
Also, I wanted a bounty hunter game in space goddamnit. I've wanted one forever.
It looks promising but I'll wait for reviews first.
I would have preferred Prey 2 over this shitty "reboot" that has nothing to do with the previous game other than being a scifi shooter
basically you are mad the game isnt called something else then?
I am confused as to why the devs did a male/female choice. I mean unless Morgan's gender effects gameplay or plot there's no real reason why to put that in the game. It's just added work for the script, getting another voice actor, and making and animating another model which will probably rarely seen in the game.
Early trailers made it seem like another hide and go seek horror game, but I'm actually very interested now that it's looking like a spiritual sequel to System Shock. There's no reason for it to have the Prey name though. Prey 1 was average but I was looking forward to Prey 2. I can only imagine treating it like a reboot will backfire since the only people that remember Prey will be upset the sequel was cancelled for something completely different.
But D2 was very good as far as AAA games goes?
I expect to be better than Bioshock but still not as good as System Shock.
So I guess "good for what it is" like New Vegas, Human Revolution or Dishonored.
Maybe the best we have in the AAA industry right now but it's a shame we won't ever have uncompromised/complexe games anymore like Thief, SS or Deus Ex.
I love Arkane's games in general so I'm interested.
Should have called it something else, though.
I don't think it is intended as a reboot at all. They had a cool name that wasn't in use and they decided to use it.
Actually it's because Bethesda would lose the IP if there was no game released before 2018.
I still don't understand the fuss over Prey 2. It had literally nothing (zero) to do with the first game. No gravity zones, no portals, no spirit walk and a generic sci-fi backdrop instead of the cyborg Sphere.
You may as well make a new game at that point. Tossing in Tommy at the end doesn't change that.
it looks decent but I'm sad they're calling it PREY, it appears to have nothing to do with the first one
They'd have been better off not using the Prey name, people who liked the original aren't going to magically feel a connection to this random ass game with it's name and Prey 2 fags are just going to be butthurt their game will never come out.
Unless this has some amazing twist relating to the original Prey is just seems random as fuck.
see
>there's no real reason why to put that in the game
there is now because video games have to be progressive.
im almost certain it wasnt part of their initial plan but they felt like they had to add a gender choice or else people will get offended.
Since its an Immersive Sim by Arkane you already know it'll be at least good. Bad devs that don't know what they do don't even try to make games in that genre.
Prey 2 could very well have been a boring and empty open-world with fetch quests et repetitive "capture the NPC" missions. Since with have no choice but to chose between the two, this one is the safest bet.
>I don't trust them after D2
Why D2 is a better D1 in almost all aspect, it was just badly optimized
>people who liked the original
There were? I thought it was mediocre as fuck.
Maybe because it's an 'immersive sim' game and having people relate more to the MC and hence be more immersed?
It was like a 7/10 on release, was one of the first post Quake 4(Maybe post Doom 3, I don't remember) games that was able to grab people's attention by just looking decent for the time. Probably has a cult following as I remember a lot of people at the time saying how amazing it was.
I don't really think it is that big of a difference honestly, it adds work for them but I like being able to play as either F/M
I can understand how people would be impressed by some of the gimmick in the game (guns, gravity and shit).
But I thought it was very linear and too much cool things were just contextual.
I like that you can see your legs and your shadow when it's first person. Adds a layer of immersion to me.
Still a shame you can't see yourself in a mirror but I heard it's just something too huge on a technical pov?
Reminder that they stole the Prey IP from its rightful owner using dirty merchant tactics.
It was ok if you played it around its release, the game did a lot of impressive things with portals, sizes and and gravity but in between those cool scenes it was just a mediocre corridor shooter with the same enemies in the same environments throughout.
>mirror
It's a lost tech.
>Chris Avellone
Not even once
I was talking about the cancelled sequel and it's fanboys, not the remake.
Though yeah, I wish more elements like that made it in there too.
Huge homage to System Shock 2, looks more complex than the Bioshocks, might be cool.
I'll forever be upset that PREY2 was canned, but it's by no means the fault of the current game since that shit was in the freezer for years and years.
>lost tech
ooh boy. someone who doesnt understand how mirrors work in older games.
most games never used true mirror reflections. they just duplicated the room that youre in to make it seem like youre looking at a mirror.
The new Hitman has working mirrors. It was surprising with the level of details in its maps.
It took two dishonored games to see that Arkane can't make stealth mechanics on par with the original thief, how many prey games until we realize they can't do atmosphere or horror on the level of System Shock either?
Look great, I just wish they didn't call it Prey or at least gave it a subtitle to make it a side game or something.
Mirrors are in plenty of games, the problem is it requires effort for something that won't be used too much, therefore devs don't implement them.
>looks more complex than the Bioshocks
That's honestly not too hard.
I'll honestly never understand how Bioshock was so well received by critics and gaamers.
Sure the setting and story were pretty decent but the gameplay was popamole garbage, the pace was very wrong and the rpg elements barebone.
Or, you know, for variety. Fucking Unreal 1 had dozens of playable characters for single player, with the default being a girl no less. Nobody gave a shit then and shouldn't now.
TECHNOLOGY
It doesn't need to be as good as system shock, even though I would like it to be that good. but it wont be, and it doesnt need to be as good as system shock to be enjoyable
Very excited to see people try and grasp the spirit of a game as systems heavy as the System Shock games.
babbys first shock game
The worst part is, those people who praise bio 1, then say Infinite is dumbed down as if that wasnt the case in the previous 2 games
but user, it literally is a hide and go seek horror game.
it's prophunt without online play, watch some of the new footage.
Bioshock wasn't dumbed down because it isn't System Shock, it's Bioshock.
Cool thing I saw from the trailer:
>In one of the first room of the game there is a safe requiring a code.
>The code is on a whiteboard but it got erased
>Much later in the game you enter your office and you play a video
>It's a video of yourself in the past, recorded in the first safe room
>If you look closely you can see the code on the whiteboard in the video
>traumas and injuries removed because it's "too hardcore"
Sorry guys, I don't think this semen slurping bioshock remake is for me.
Dishonored is not a stealth game though. Those games don't focus on stealth as much, it's just one aspect, like in the Deus Ex games.
Thief needed to have really good stealth mechanics to be a good game.
Immersive Sims is a weird genre because it's not a name related to the main thing you do in the game, it's just a set of characteristics.
didnt they say they were tweaking it still? I'll never understand why game devs cut that stuff, just throw in as a mechanic in harder difficulties
They said they might release it after release.
I'm glad they removed the weapon degradation because it's always retarded in games but this trauma system looked interesting.
There is something very Bioshock in this screenshot.
I remember reading something about the devs needing to dumb down several things in Dishonored after the testers failed to figure out a lot of things in the game and were stuck in the levels.
Like they didn't go exploring upstairs in a mansion to find a key they needed because a guard told them they were not allowed to go there.
They can't make big games too "cerebral" these days if they want them to sell well I think.
YOU
CAN
TURN
INTO
A
BANANAAA
IN
SPAAACE
XXDD
...
jesus christ
dumb namefag
nah they probably figured all that out, it's chill don't worry
Then I guess Bioshock and Bioshock infinite arent comparable either because if infinite were a sequel like Bioshock 2 it would have had to be named Bioshock 3
made me think
Thanks.
How sad
you had a hard time comprehending that, should take a nap
Has a Bioshock meets Dead Space vibe so I'm optimistic. Game play looks decent
I've heard the modelised the Earth, Moon and Sun.
The space station orbits around the moon so there is a natural day/night cycle in the game.
im upset because it has the same name as an unreleased game shown only in promotional footage that also had nothing to do with the original
time 2 get over it
considering they made arx fatalis, theyll do well until bethesda sticks their hands in.
>there will never be a game like shezhen i/o with this concept
>nothing to do with the original
You were on the plane shown as a setpiece in the original game for a minute or so.
Infinite was given a subtitle because while it's not a direct sequel to 2, or even 1, it's still part of the Bioshock series. If I remember correctly it even takes place before BS1 before the fall of Rapture.
As far as System Shock is concerned, they're not the same universe.
It's gonna be a meme game with muh physics, DAE LE TURN INTO A CUP XDDD??!! Don't expect a masterpiece on the level of the 'Shocks.
Also, the enemies appear to be just terrible, placeholder-tier black goo bullshit. Reminds me of that canceled XCOM FPS.
the system shock games aren't masterpieces, this game can be good too.
I suggest you return to /r/vidya dude.
>It's gonna be a meme game with muh physics, DAE LE TURN INTO A CUP XDDD??!! Don't expect a masterpiece on the level of the 'Shocks.
It's funny because you can say the exact thing about System Shock 2
>DAE LE BE INVISIBLE
>DAE LE DUPLICATE AMNO
>DAE LE TELEPORT
It isnt dead space at all. There is no limb shot, different armors or 3rd person. And dead space only have 2 "power": stasis and gravity. This game has dozens of them.
you have to go back
I'm pretty sure that xcom shooter was actually released
it was, but it just changed a lot and became a Mass Effect style squad shooter. was okay
>so retarded he can't figure out what is similar between what we've seen and Dead Space
very difficult to brain this problem
system shock 2 pukes.
system shock 1 for life
When does it even comes out? I like some creative bits about enemy behaviour and simple design. Their animations looks sweet.
Then it has nothing to do with Prey nor the advertised ages ago Prey2. It looks more like combination of bioshock'ish movement/enviroment and console standard siplification - If you can't play it on joypad - it needs "fixing". I have no hopes for it at all. Won't play it just skim through some gamethroughs or lore to see if there's anything of worth in there.
wtf
May 5th
Cautiously optimistic. Dishonored 1 was amazing, and they seem to be taking the right inspirations from BioShock and SS2.
...
>right inspirations from BioShock
what did he mean by this
...
Artdeco. Which is very good taste.
I enjoyed Dishonored 2 more than any game in past 5 years, so i looking forward to anything that Arkane is doing.
art deco is trash IMHO
bioshock is the definition of a plebbit game are you kidding me dude
Does it have ANY connection to the original game? Anything at all?
no, literally just the same name because of whatever reason
you're trash
I'm honestly getting pretty tired of Arkane's artstyle.
Naturally they will keep it for Dishonored, but now they're bringing it into Prey too? I was never particularly fond of the whole cartoonish look characters had in Dishonored, I like stylization but it just clashed with the tone they were going for.
this game is more like system shock with art deco aesthetics though
>hurrrr art deco sucks
nice opinion
>bioshock is plebbit
definitely some truth here though
there are enemies beside the goo shit
maybe if you weren't so braindead and did some research you would have known
That's a shame, the original had pretty good promise as a franchise
>>hurrrr art deco sucks
>nice opinion
its the correct opinion. Art Deco is tacky, gaudy, garbage.
This game doesn't look like a comic book. You're not looking at the right game if this is what you honestly believe.
It's set on a space station
oops wrong webm
