SWAT 3 is better than SWAT 4. SWAT 4 removed or changed several things that kind of take away from the simulation. In SWAT 3 you can shoot through anything while you can only shoot through doors in 4. Doors always open away from you in 4 while in 3 it depends on the door. Enemies and hostages in 3 can run away if you don't watch them even if they surrender while in 4 if they surrender they stay where they are indefinitely. In SWAT 3 you have to manually report things (as in you have to actually say an enemy is dead or just injured) while in 4 when you report things the game chooses what to report for you. I've heard that 4's squad AI has issues sometimes that doesn't affect the AI in 3 but haven't experienced it for myself. I'm sure there's more.
