Beyond the obvious answers of "shills" and "drones", why are people acting like Breath of the Wild is the greatest thing to grace this Earth? This is a genuine question; I don't see what people are getting out of it. It appears to be a simple, generic open world action bore. Good on you if you like those sorts of games, I suppose, but people act as though this is some sort of ground-breaking game. What's supposed to be ground breaking?

And I haven't bothered to watch the cutscenes, but, given that this is a Zelda game, I assume the lore is boring, generic, or only interesting to autists who obsess over timelines and shit like that.

So, none of these are really ground-breaking. Perhaps compared to the standard Nintendo has set, which is generally subpar and outdated, but my problem is that people act like this is some sort of groundbreaking marvel of technology.

Also, to save the trouble of consolewarfags, I'm not a sony fanboy. I hate Sony as much as I hate Nintendo, but that's a topic for another thread.

I'm not even a big sandbox game fan but I'm really enjoying it. It just has that Nintendo Japanese-ness to it that makes it feel better than Rockstar's clunkiness.

What the fuck does "Japanese-ness" mean? What exactly makes it different from something like GTA or Skyrim? Is it SOLELY because it's Zelda?

You won't get a good answer here unfortunately, this is nintendrone central. As you said people are just idiots and eat this shit off their nostalgia goggles, it is a subpar game but if you tell enough people it's good maybe someone will believe it.

I'm not sure how to describe it if you haven't played it. Nintendo games have an attention to detail that's hard to match. Plus I love the Studio Ghibli inspired art direction.

Same thing happened with SS. After 6 years of wandering through the no games desert, Nintendo fans finally found a Dixie cup of water, which is BoW.

Its not bad but its awfully generic and feels like the same open world game we've been playing for the past 5 years

It's kind of like how people swoon over Blizzard's games. They're really nothing special when it comes down to it, but the polish and atmosphere makes people love them nonetheless.

I laughed too but this game has several features that make it interesting so far

>weather affects link
>rain can turn into snow and freeze link to death
>can be struck by lightning, can influence lightning to kill enemies
>wind fucks with projectiles
>link can climb just about everything

Its small things like that, that barely exist in other games, so seeing it all combined into a Zelda game, which lets be honest, had almost no interesting mechanics for a decade is very weird and cool.

Kind of annoyed at the frame drops on a brand new console though. So that sucks.

Its not super in depth but it doesn't really need to be when the game has some many different parts to it. It sort of feels like MGS in a way, with all of its weird and quirky aspects.

It definitely feels more fun than all other zelda games just from a mechanical aspect.

Nice work explaining and giving your own opinion! I mean even though everything OP said is pretty much true it's good to know you think BotW is a complex game!

If you think the combat is complex then you probably have massive difficulty playing games like Pokemon or Mario and whatever other rehashed shit is on nintendo.

The main thing about BotW is the idea of Nintendo listening. People disliked how hard SS removed all freedom and exploration from the game, and in response, Nintendo actually listened and tried to make a real Zelda adventure again. How successful the execution was is a matter of taste, but they at least tried, which for a company that just recently put out Color Splash and Federation Force is a massive step.

It was considered the greatest Zelda game at the time, SEVENTEEN YEARS AGO. The fact that a game made today is marginally better than a game made seventeen years ago is not an argument.

The combat is basic, though; the only difference between BotW and the countless other action RPGs in the market right now is that you can do stuff like set environmental things on fire or use physics objects to kill enemies, which has been done in countless other action games.

The artstyle is shit. Generic high fantasy crap. I mean, I guess it's better than the permanently muted greys of Nioh and Dark Souls, but it's still nothing to boast about.

None of these are unique or ground breaking, though. The reason why they stick out now is because Nintendo has never bothered to introduce these mechanics that have existed for years to a Zelda game until now.

I can see that Nintendo DID try with this game, and I am fully aware of how big of a thing that is; however, people are applauding Nintendo and raining praise upon them for doing basic shit that people should expect from any action game in 2017; the only reason it seems special is because of how monstrously dated and stubborn Nintendo generally is.

Name me another game that has all of these mechanics in them.

Also lemme point out something very simple.

Take a gigantic, extremely well known IP + Inject actual mechanics into it, completely change up the formula.

Build up even more hype with a great trailer
