If Nintendo would to release a dock that will extend the processing power of the Switch to be on par with that of a PS4 Pro for a reasonable amount of money. Would you consider buying it?
If Nintendo would to release a dock that will extend the processing power of the Switch to be on par with that of a PS4...
does it magically bestow the platform with more games that are worth a damn as well?
Limit $200 sure
I already bought it. it will have the best games as always
>Switch release date is today
>Already talking about a fucking expansion pack
FUCK OFF
If they used thunderbolt 3 it would be much easier to do so, but since they're using USB C I suppose its possible. Sure, I'd buy it.
I'd have thought that would be incredibly difficult without basically having an entirely new console in the dock. Plugging two computers together and making them work together as one computer is ridiculously complicated.
It's not going to happen considering the damn thing runs better undocked for some fucking reason
I thought Nintendo games weren't about the graphics?
Absolutely.
I wish Nintendo would just release a console on par with hardware wise with the Xbone/PS4, because that would make them the best choice by far.
A modern Nintendo console with full third party support would make them so much money, but they refuse to bring their hardware in line with their competitors.
I don't really get it, but I guess that's why I'm probably a fuckawful businessman.
Remember when people thought this was the idea from the beginning?
God, this thing is a joke.
It's sad there are a lot of modern games that just simply can't come to the Switch based solely on cartridge capacity
The fact you can get a PS4+Game and all the cables and controllers included for less than just the base unit for the Switch is utterly retarded.
What were Nintendo thinking? If you're going to release a cheap to produce, weak power console, at least price it under the competition.
current Switch dock ninty sells for 60$, it's literally just a video output from the tablet.
kinda like a 3ds with a capture card installed
That shit doesn't come with the switch?
Maybe they should make a dock that doesn't scratch the screen.
Yes. Switch is a handheld for me.
That would be basically buying a console.
it does, but nintendo sells them as spare parts for just $60.
if it's only $60, then it doesn't really have anything in it but a circuit to transfer video and be a dedicated charging port/dock for the tablet.
the switch literally is just a handheld console
What's even in the dock? Half of that is hollow. Where's the processing unit?
see
store.nintendo.com
it's literally just a dedicated charging dock for the switch, with a video out transfer aswell built-in.
I'm fine with the performanc of BotW on Switch. This comes from me---a PC mustard with a GTX 1080/ i7 6700k rig at 1440p/144hz triple monitor set up---and I am surprised.
Why. Have you played Breath of the Wild.
Its literally fuck your 4k, here's what a real game looks like.
By having a console with limited specs and hdd space, they are telling 3rd party to either bring real games or don't make games for the system.
This has literally been Nintendo's strategy since N64
>no room for FMV, make real games or you're not part of the Dream Team
Too bad it hasn't worked out for them at all
External GPUs for laptops are a thing. The problem is I don't think there's any way it could be hooked up to the switch, since the dock just connects to the USB port doesn't it?
solution is dock 2.0, with some trickery built-in
as current dock is literally just charging station and means to show the tablet graphics on a TV
One would think they would have it hooked up to all the right lines. Not like it would have been really hard. They're already paying for a fully pinned port, might as well try and plan for the future.
gimmicks win console wars
cd player
dvd player
motion controls
But still, the only connector you have is the USB port
Can that thing be a power charger, a HDMI out, and a link to an external graphics card all at the same time? I know it's the newest form of USB but still that shit isn't the same as a VGA or DVI connector
Exactly how is that supposed to work? The dock doesn't currently do anything other than video output and acting as a wall charger. All the actual hardware is in the tablet itself
No, the system is already a failure as all game must work on standard low power handheld mode.
Joke system, waste of money, time and thought.
it basically can do anything but it is capped at X amount of bandwidth.
i think there's some sort of dedicated port besides USB on the underside, but i don't actually have a switch so i cant check.
there's also option of touch transfer (wireles) to the dock itself
you'd swap out the entire dock with something beefier, in theory.
that's the only way that can work, is if they release exact 1:1 dock currently is how it works and such, but with actual hardware integrated in it.
Yeah I'm also waiting for mine to arrive in the fucking mail, should have selected pick up in store and could have had it at the midnight release, but I thought with the mail they'll probably send them out like 4-5 days early and it might arrive on like wednesday or thursday.
Turns out I got cucked by nintendo, ebgames, and the postal service all taking turns doing a shit job
That's cute, the reality is that Nintendo lags behind ON PURPOSE so they can limit the budget of their titles. The other end of this is that they always keep the prices of their titles high, and since no othe rgames come out on the system they have no competitiors for their outrageously overpriced titles.
Explain to me how you benefit by having your Shop purchases tied to your console?
Nintendo treats you like a fucking idiot slave and you defend them.
What specs does the Switch need to charge properly? I standard cell phone charge seems like it would be so slow. Does it do any kind of fast charge?
Is that even possible?
External GPUs are a thing but tricky. Since the Switch has a USB-C port, it could work. But, It's not going to be cheap. Not worth it.
No kidding, the dock is already $90
It would also put further stress on game devs having to optimize for what would essentially be three systems in tablet mode, regular docks, and gpu docks
no
Free online was the benefit you idiot.
No. I have a PS4 and at this point I'm just waiting for Switch to have an actual library considering Nintendo consoles actually tend to be good at differentiating themselves from the competition.
It's possible. However, do you really think they will make a handheld with 150 GFlops of performance and then release a dock with 1.8 TFlops of performance? The whole point of the Switch is that you can choose the mode you want to play it in. By making the dock really fucking strong they're basically saying "Play on the dock or there won't be any games for you."
It's better if they release New Nintendo Switch in 1 year, with updated CPU architecture and Pascal Tegra, and also use a better cooling system to allow it to run at higher frequencies. This would easily allow the Switch in handheld mode to reach at least 1 TFlops.
There are already handheld only games though, it could be a ps4 pro thing where games might run better or be exclusive to dock mode.
This all depends in the switch is even successful enouth to warrant a life extension instead of quickly scraping it like the wii u.
No. The power of a platform is not what makes it worth buying. So far the switch doesn't have any games that interest me, it could rival my fucking PC and that wouldn't change.
>Games might be exclusive to dock mode
Isn't the whole point being able to take all of your games everywhere?
I think its also a tool for developers and what they chose to do with it, like i said theres already a game that is handheld mode only.
They don't have the option of scrapping the Switch. This is their fucking ultimate plan, merging their waning console base with their waxing mobile base. Look at the 3DS lineup for 2017, literally nothing. Every studio, first and third party, is putting their shit into Switch development.
Yeah, but everyone who owns a Switch owns the handheld. Making games exclusive to a dock would be arbitrary segregation and you'd have a $60 that's useless a lot of the times you're using your system.
I don't see a problem with splitting the user base by doing this. A expansion dock would be like selling Nintendos next main console, with a standalone switch being Nintendo's main handheld. This would be combining the handheld and console into a single ecosystem. No need to release the next iteration of the 3DS when the switch is already that.
For what purpose?
It's not going to get third party multiplat stuff and the console is powerful enough for Nintendo and their studios games, so what's the point? Pissing contest over 4K and shit?
why?
I already have a PC
>Every studio, first and third party, is putting their shit into Switch development.
No? We have confirmation that we're getting a Fire Emblem, Mario, Splatoon 2, Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
And that's it.
me too buddy, but sometimes I don't feel like playing only mobas and cosmetic sims.
Along with a mainline Pokemon, SMT title, SE title, third party current sports games, mainline Dragon Quest, and a host of ports and indie shit.
Now go ahead and counter those you listed and I listed with all the announced 3DS titles and try to tell me that their entire production effort isn't focused on the Switch
It will never happen as none of the connectors have a high enough bandwidth to allow for multiprocessor communication. You're stuck with what ya got :^)
You're not wrong though. I would definitely grab a powerful Nintendo console but they refuse to make one
People have literally been saying this for decades, but Nintendo continues to slide downward.
They will never release a console with specs equal to competitors after they launched the SNES after Genesis and won that generation and the Gameboy sold so well on SUCH crap specs for years.
Gameboy also had no competition. The problem with current Nintendo is the success of the Wii. They hit a market that Sony and Microsoft had never been able to tap and that made the Wii a fucking cash machine. Now they think they can do whatever gimmick they want, seemingly not realize what actually made the Wii sell so well
>third party current sports games
Ported from PS3/X360 version.
>mainline Dragon Quest
Runs at less than 20 FPS compared to PS4.
The thing is the Switch has an actual nice gimmick, being able to turn it from a handheld into a console.
The only actual flaw of the Switch is that it's underpowered as fuck. They need to get a better cooling system and overclock the fuck out of it.
And? None of that actually refutes anything I fucking said
>>Free online was the benefit you idiot.
ps3 has free online
purchase not locked to system
>ps3 has free online
And how long did it take them to jew out? It obviously doesn't work.
The thing probably is underclocked. But don't worry - coming SOON the NEW! Nintendo Switch, only $100 more!
Almost ten years.
I'd like to ask why the Switch still has purchases locked. I had to sell my wii in 2009 when a roommate skipped rent and I lost 20o dollars worth of VC games. I have refused to buy from Nintendo ever since because they actively try to stop me from selling their systems or being able to buy them used.
Nintendo is the pre-eminent kike toy company and they literally always have been. This has been their business practice since day one, tight control of their own market and pricing.
Probably but I don't care about its processing power anyway, only using it as a handheld.
Alsol lol@ the niggers complaining about lack of games, I'm trying to finish BotW before buying Disgaea, Fast RMX or I am Setsuna because I will be overwhelmed again and stop playing.
BoTW is like 100 hours, Disgaea 5 is like another 100 hours, Setsuna is like 15 hours and Fast RMX is a multiplayer title so 50 hours before you get bored maybe.
That's not a lot of hours played, in a best case scenario.
These are launch titles, if you download D5 from the JP eShop.
By the time I'm done with these, new ones will be out.
>I'd like to ask why the Switch still has purchases locked.
it doesnt.
I don't have a Switch nor will I be getting one in the next few years, but even I know it's account based.
nice try, kike
>I'd like to ask why the Switch still has purchases locked.
It doesn't. Purchases are placed on an account.
I really doubt they have the kind of R&D budget that massive multifaceted companies like Microsoft & Sony have. They can't compete on a technology level.
Literally impossible.
Now if they make the *New* Switch have some kind of magical ventilation open up on the bottom of it when you dock it, put a fan in said dock, then overclock the shit out of the GPU and CPU so neither bottlenecks the other it would be amazing.
Best case scenario is they could match a regular PS4, which would be more than enough for me.
They literally think they're Apple.
Then that means Sony can also release a dock that will extend the processing power of the PS4 Pro to be on par with that of PC for a reasonable amount of money. Wouldn't you agree?
