It's not even out yet you retard.

4 classic zones. 3.5 new zones.

Fuck nostalgiafags.

>"out Spring 2017"
>it's Spring 2017

Release date in 12 days tho

Prediction: delayed to September-November 2017

Nothing

A better question would be "What went right?"

Nothing

A better question would be "What went maybe?"

Spring starts on March 20th, you dork.

>sonic was never good

Game looks fine it's just the music is really disappointing. Should have tried to make their own music instead of trying to sound like Sonic CD.

I think they were just testing the physics.

Last time they tried their own thing we got Lost World, the first main Sonic game that i can count in just one hand the number of good music

>sonic was never good

What do you mean exactly? Sonic 06, Rush, Unleashed, even the advance games had their own music. They didn't sound like previous games. Sonic Mania is a new step forward. Music should reflect that instead of clinging to the past.

>game designed entirely around making a 2D sprite game using over 20 year old design standards
>"why does the music sound like that"

You lose nothing by this game's existence. Sonic Team is busy on Sonic 2017. Yes Mania is a blatant nostalgia cash-in, but the guys working on it are real fans, the animation looks great, and the level layouts are complex and interesting. If you're not into classic Sonic, you can just wait to see what's in store. Personally I enjoy both styles and I'm looking forward to both.

...

The old Sonic games were platformers with huge characters. In a sidescrolling view, that means you can only see about five feet in front of you. This is bad. It's doubly bad when you're supposed to go fast.

Sonic was always shit.

What a dumb post.

This. Can't put my finger on it but it sounds to tryhard. They are trying too hard to act like they made the 16-bit games. Would have been much better if they showed something new they could bring to the franchise instead of riding on the coattails of past composers. Definitely would have been more original.

That's what rings are for, silly. Stop playing so cautiously. Live a little!

same problem with any platformer even mario
sonic's levels are designed to flow though so you rarely get stuck on things

Why do Nintenbros always have to shit up Sonic threads? Are they mad that they weren't born during the 90s so they try to take it out on Sonic?

>B-But Nintnedo

Everytime. What's even more pathetic is it's been more than 15 years since Sega last made a console and pathetic retards like you still have a persecution complex.

OP asked what went wrong. The answer is that the game is being developed off a template that was bad in the first place.

Ain't no Nintendo here, boyo.

Only Nintendo device I ever owned is a GBA.

What kind of thread is this? This is shitpost for something that can't even warrant shitpost. The game's not even out yet.

Just because your first exposure to Sonic was people quoting the Sonic X dub theme song doesn't mean you know anything about how it's supposed to be played. Stop blaming the game because you're a mental toddler who can't beat kids games.

These are the same people that praises Sonic 4 for returning to its roots

man those story book games were just awful.

without the music they are almost like superman64

Here's a side by side that took my thirty thousand hours in MS Paint. Sonic takes up more of the screen than Mario in a game that encourages a gameplay style that will result in faster speed.

Please of fuckings off, homsex.

>Hating LIGHTS CAMERA ACTION

That's a nice song, user. Thanks for sharing. I'm having a nice day today. I have one for you too. Black Knight is in my backlog. I know it's panned, but I'm excited to try it.

There are a grand total of 0 times in the entirety of the classic trilogy where this is a problem (CD and the Game Gear games had some problems but not the main three) assuming you have a reaction time on par with the average elementary school child.

Some fanboys still cling onto console wars of the 90s because they can't handle that Sega became irrelevant after they stop making consoles. Funny thing is Nintendo wasn't the ones that killed them. It was mainly Sony.

Ah was this confirmed? Link?

Fake news. Nintendo doesn't even bother to compete with Sony anymore either. They can't. What does it matter anyway, being out of the hardware game means that everyone gets to enjoy Sega games. Whether you're on PC, PS4 or Switch, etc you can play Mania. The same can't be said for Nintendo games.

they are re-using classic zones but the layouts are changed a bit and the levels have been extended generally

Only that there will be more classic than new zones, a number wasn't given but it's said to be bigger than Generations, which classic zones are in wasn't confirmed either
But everyone knows Lava Reef will be in
'Cause it's GOAT

Notice how it's never the Sonicfans that go "Mario was never good"

I never said mario was bad just that it has the same problem along with many other platformers
freedom planet 2 actually has an option that zooms the camera out as you speed up which is pretty neat

>Yes Mania is a blatant nostalgia cash-in
Sonic 4 was more of a nostalgia cash-in. Mania's partially that, but there's gameplay with actual substance under the hood, and that's what's so exciting about it.

Looks fine to me

dude it's still winter

>blatant nostalgia cash-in

what are these shitposts? the fans have been crying for another 2D sonic game for more than a decade

>In a sidescrolling view, that means you can only see about five feet in front of you.
Nigga, fucking roll when you're going fast into uncharted territory. You press down on the dpad, it's not hard or esoteric. And it's not like the Dimps or 3D games where every level is filled with bottomless pits, so you're not likely to be punished for doing that.

>you're supposed to go fast
Yeah, when you fucking git gud.

I'm pretty sure nintendo fans are the only people that still like sonic

Because that's not something you can say without looking like a retard. The reviews and sales for the games will prove you wrong everytime. I get what you're trying to say, but you can't just say "Mario sucks" and then not provide proof.

Way to not read the rest of my post. There's a lot to look forward to, legitimate and thoughtful development. But the whole collector's edition thing and the commercial and the way they're marketing it, yeah. It's not a bad thing.

Sonic Mania trailer has the most views for the Switch.

We're getting more info during SXSW, which is in a week.

It'll probably drop in May.

>the layouts are changed a bit
>a bit
this is the most tame reused Zone

>you can't just say "Mario sucks" and then not provide proof
The "Sonic was never good" people don't provide proof, either. They just share anecdotes about being terrible at video games, and then believe this is the fault of the game.

Nothing.

cucks and sjws forcing their agenda yet again

>In a sidescrolling view, that means you can only see about five feet in front of you. This is bad. It's doubly bad when you're supposed to go fast.
If that's a problem for you then you're either braindead or a child. This and le memorization meme are somewhat legitimate complaints for boostshit, but not for Classic games.

If you can't individually select character combos like in Sonic Advanced then it's shit.

You don't even need to memorize shit to clear the stage without harm like a lot of shit posters claim.

The levels are designed so that you can flow through them quickly and still have enough time to react to most obstacles. They never place a badnik, a pit fall, or a spike trap in the way these fuckers claim.

Unless you're in Metropolis

The game is in widescreen, you have no excuse.

>jump over first star
>land on fish
>rebound above cluster of starfish
>bounce off of scyther
>bounce off of crab
>freedom

I think the DIMPS games also skewed people's perspectives because its those games that actually do all these complaints people have about bad badnik placement, spikes, pits, etc.

Even in Metropolis there's only one mantis placed in a way where it's impossible to avoid it, and it's on the slow path.

There we go. Most Genesis games had better resolution than SNES games. You obviously get to see more of the screen unlike that guys example of either a stretched SNES game or a constricted Genesis game.

The baffling decision not to include a new Crush 40 song doomed this game.

nice meme

But a new song about one piece of sushi has already been made for project 17

WTF?! I THOUGHT SONIC WAS ABOUT GOING FAST?!

Shellcracker in general has a completely bullshit hitbox.

True but 16:9 really helps.

This is why we need the 16:9 remakes of 1-2 on Steam. And to get the same thing done for 3.

>people actually wasting time giving long replies to "muh sanic games punish you for going fast" fags
>instead of telling them to fuck off and git gud if they want to fast

Back in the day my brother told me Metropolis had 3 acts because it was Sonic's home
Has that shit been said anywhere or did he pull it out of his cute little butt?

It's still winter time you retarded shutin.

brb, taking a shower

...

He pulled it out of his ass.
Sonic was born on Christmas Island.

...

The image below looks like it was condensed.

IT'S THOSE DUDES

>cute little butt

Because noone takes git gud seriously and has convinced noone of anything.

Yes I know bait and trolls etc but you don't reduce the amount of vomit in the bowl by spewing your own barf into it.

THE BOYS

>but you don't reduce the amount of vomit in the bowl by spewing your own barf into it.
Then the thing to do would be not to reply to obvious bait and shitposters to begin with

If you really have to, might as well not give them the satisfaction of taking over the thread

Correct.

>there are creatures out there that breathe the same air we do who hate LIGHTS CAMERA ACTION and jamming Mirage Saloon

What is this retard doing?

While trying to bounce off the fish the mantis would definitely hit you.

1. It's 2D
2. It's not Sonic Adventure 3

Build up enough speed and then short hop over the spikes and under the astron and hopefully land on the edge where you can roll into the Mantis before it fire off its scythes.

However, you'd be fuck at that point because the Shellcracker will fuck you up.

I think my rule of thumb was to try and aim for the back half of their head.

I'll put this layout together in SonED later today and try it out

>chooses the beta mario world hack for a screenshot

Interesting.

Geez man, Give the game a chance. It's not even out.

What the fuck were they thinking with Sonic's palette?
>were platformers with huge characters
They were about the same size as most other platforming characters in terms of screen space.
I can agree with screen space being an issue but not to the point where it inherently makes the game shit. You just sound like you've never actually played the games for a significant amount of time.

>What the fuck were they thinking with Sonic's palette?
Which one is best?

Sonic 3 is objectively the best.

sprite or palette?

>shitty coloring and detail
>no facial expression
>best
