Hello Sup Forums

Hello Sup Forums.

Development of Baldur's Gate 3 has begun at Beamdog, with David Gaider at the helm of the writing team.

If you want to experience BG2 while it is untainted, I'd suggest doing so before the entire IP gets shat on.

Source?

Don't joke about serious matter such as this.

Hasn't a ton of shit happened on Faerûn over the course of 3, 4 and 5 edition. Why make a sequel to something from so long ago?

nostalgia cash grab?

it was only a matter of time i suppose
nothing is sacred anymore they have to destroy everything
these truly are dark times

Surely this is mere jest, right, fellow user?

>Gaider

I don't even care anymore.

I'm playing through the EE edition of BG2 right now.

Holy fuck the added content really was written as bad as they say and it sticks out like a sore thumb

>maximum edgy character
>oh so quirky tumblr tier comedy girl

It's written so juvenile. People will point to Minsc but he still fits in with the universe, He's like a Tom Bombadil character.

for the same reason they did siege of dragonspear

the somewhat qt vampire girl also turns into a black woman for some reason
lol

Their notorious tranny agenda? By the way isn't Myrkul, Bane and Bhaal back in the most recent edition?

A black woman lesbian women, mind you. Three diversity points instead of two.

is there a patch to remove the added content from the EE release?

>David Gaider at the helm

the problem isn't just the added content
it's also the UI redesign

Nigger Hexxat is a different character tho.
The white qt one was pretending to be the real one and once you find the real one, she kills the qt white one.

desu he wrote the best characters and questline in dao
grand oak tree and elven questline, as well as morrigan and alistair, even though alistair is a fag and oghren and shale are much better companions

the problem is they use her as a shield from criticism
when people complained on the forums they just said "you just dont like her because she's black!"

Wasn't he responsible for the whole "haha darkspawn who? What Greay Wardens? Dragon Age is about mages and templars don't you know ;^^^^^)"

He had mostly fuck all to do with DA2 and 3 actually.

no idea
I don't even know what you're talking about desu. I never really followed BioWare. All their games range from mediocre to shit with the exception of BG2.

he was the lead writer and creative director on DA2 actually

The Bhaalspawn's journey is completely over though. Why would you make Baldur's Gate 3 instead of a new IP?

Bhaal came back in 5E.
Plot can be about facing your daddy.

To make easy money from nostalgiafags who will buy it even though they know there's no reason to. Same reason they made siege of dragonspear.

wasn't BG supposed to be a trilogy initially?

A divine campaign would be baller as fuck trying to grow as a power in Far'un.

Throne of Bhall counts as part of the trilogy of the bhallspawn's story

wouldn't it be a 5 parts then with Tales of the swordcoast and Siege of DragonSpear.

I played the original when it came out in 1996. It came on multiple cds. I loved the mood and it looked really nice on crt screen.

However I just installed the EE and used Big World mod thing to merge everything into one playable game.

However, when playing this I don't seem to level up at all. Killing mob grants something like 5-10 experience and next level requires 2500 or so...

I don't remember the game being this grindy. It was pretty straightforward to play back then. I don't know what has changed.

you mostly get EXP from quests, not from grinding mobs.

ToB was supposed to be a full game.

There were also rumors of a prequel before black isle went under.

You reach only level 8-10 at the end of BG1, if you do all optional content and the expansion.
It takes a good while to level up. Just relax, the levels will come to you.

Just don't take on a full party and you should level up with ease.

It's D&D. you level extremely slowly, you'll finish the first game at level 8 or so.

ToSC isnt separate from 1 like ToB is from 2.

SoD doesnt exist as far as fans are concerned.

I see, this makes sense. I think playing all recent games have made me to expect instant gratification kind of progress.

I also have 6 people in my party and I'm not even in Baldur's Gate yet... Time to rethink my strategy.

Fewer characters early pays dividends in xp for you.

People that claim Minsc and Jan are lolrandumb don't know what they're talking about, and the EE characters are a perfect contrast to show what actual lolrandumn is.

Minsc is legitimately insane and retarded, and not the meme kind, but still has a personality and moral compass beyond it.
Jan acts like a fool, but is clearly using the assumptions of others to get ahead, or for his own amusement, as shown by his interactions with the guard at the start or Anomen. He drops the act immediately when things get serious, such as when his niece gets injured.

baldurs gate is fucking glorious
and I'm talking about the adventure feeling
I think it's so good because the ambience sounds
>those bird sounds
>those yells and talking in cities
>those forest sounds
holy shit

I'm still in mid bg2, gotta finish it and ToB
after this I have icewind dale waiting for me on my backlog

What's your character stats? If you're a mage you kinda have to have momre people with you. Warriors are better of in the first game while amges become demi-gods in the sequel.

Baldur's Gate has soul, something Pillars of Eternity ironically lacked

Keep in mind that if you level up without the characters in the party then that leaves it for the game to level them up for you. For some characters this is a problem because they'll get bad hp increases each level or a pip in a weapon skill that you might have wanted elsewhere.

It's just something to keep in mind. The game isn't hard enough that you have to worry about this and it's a trivial fix in shadowkeeper if you are feeling really autistic about it.

Gaider, like all the old guard of Bioware that didn't jump ship, is fine when he has accountability and peer review.
When he doesn't, you get abominations like DA2 and DA:I.

Nothing wrong with 6 character party, you can still reach level 8-9.

How fucked will i be if i swap my party members in and out in bg2? I want to include the characters related to the current quest and variety is always nice and all but i fear that i will get a underleveled party.

Beamdog are trash, injecting their shit fanfic characters into a classic game and blocking sale of the originals. They're cunts.

holy shit I just pray to God that this post is bait.

I like to do every character's quests, so I usually just cheat and set the current XP of any NPC that I put into the party to match my main character. That basically simulates having a constant 6 man party.

iir characters outside the party get the exp you earned as soon as they enter the party, at least in EE
and please just change those tablet graphics holy shit

good god enhanced edition looks like fucking ass

not really. it's probably best to have a main group of 5 and one you swap in and out for the big quests though. there's a LOT of xp to go around, especially if you're doing all the sidequests.

>cuckdog fanfiction

What the hell why does your bg looks like a turd

he's zoomed in

With black highlights and health bars. Why would anyone do this to themselves.

the lines around sprites make them more defined and they look less shit, and why would you not want floating health bars?

>Development of Baldur's Gate 3 has begun at Beamdog, with David Gaider at the helm of the writing team.
Sauce?
I think they are optional, I don't even have those in 1.3 versions of both of the games.

They don't have the rights to make BG3.

oh god damn it

It's not a continuation at least though right?
It'll be completely new characters/system and maybe setting?

they were not introduced yet in 1.3 of EE. THe 1.3 version of the EE is the last version before all the UI "redesign" cancer rolled in.

OP is fucking with people, like it's ever gonna happen.

Yes they do. They hired David Gaider to helm the Baldur's Gate franchise, SoD was merely to test the waters.

They have a deal with Wizards of the Coast (who is also open to licensing their settings to other people, according to Obsidian's CEO).

It probably will happen, they said that if SoD was a success then they would most likely get the greenlight to make BG3. And SoD got pretty good reviews.

...

>Baldur's Gate 3 is "our long-term goal", says Beamdog
eurogamer.net/articles/2012-03-19-baldurs-gate-3-is-our-long-term-goal-says-beamdog
from 2012.
I don't know where OP got his shit from but it wouldn't surprise me. It's inevitable.

Yeah, but how was sales. Hold up, didn't it get pretty luke warm reviews from what I gather?

They don't have any deal. They had to fight a messy legal battle just to maintain the rights for BG1 and 2.

What has beamdog been up to since SoD? I haven't heard a thing and it has almost been a year.

>good god enhanced edition looks like fucking ass
It doens't, he's just a retard that turned on all the shitty filters.

I played through EE and it looks just like the original, slightly better even due to better scaler (Catmull-Rom Bicubic vs regular shitty Blinear in original)

I know you have a hate boner for everything new, for a dev daring to improve a 20 year old game, but for people who haven't played BG before the Enhanced Editions they are welcome changes. The sprites in this game are pixellated shit especially in motion, the outlines give them definition.

Given that Beamdog still has limited collector's edition SoD copies on their site, I highly doubt it sold particularly well.

Gaider was hired right before Dragonspear was released, though. So he likely had nothing to do with it.

Plenty of tales can be told around the city of Baldur's Gate. It is a city, you know.

they solved the legal battle and even got a new game in the BG franchise out.

Are you taking along Hexxat, the black lesbian vampire with a unique item allowing her to travel in sunlight and a unique item allowing her to take her coffin with her wherever she goes?

I would be excited if every single piece of new content that beamdog added to BG aside from the new kits wasn't garbage.

>mfw I pirated all three of the EEs in 1.3
>it wasn't even intentional

Except it's not. Stay mad fag while I enjoy the superior versions of my favorite games.

That game was Dragonspear, which they had to make instead of BG3 because they can only do BG1/2 products.

You can continue to bullshit if you want though.

Yuk, not beam dog. If their latest BG2 expansion is any indication, BG3 is going to suck ass. It'll read like a low budget version of modern day biowhore. Expect a bunch of irrelevant American style identity politics that completely takes you out of the game, because it's so misplaced within the BG setting.

Baldur's Gate was always trash, so I don't see how BG3 will ruin it any further.

0/10 bait

yep and they hired david gaider to do nothing
here's your (you)

I once played BG2, enjoyed it very much, but only played up to somewhere around mid-way through spellhold. Should I play it again and finish it or did the best parts of the game already come before that bit?

>Hexxat, the black lesbian vampire with a unique item allowing her to travel in sunlight and a unique item allowing her to take her coffin with her wherever she goes?
what the fuck.
What's the point in having a vampire in the team if they have absolutely no cons to being a vampire?

the best parts are before spellhold
from spellhold onwards it's fucking shit
underdark is a slog
then it's completely linear with no sidequests until hell
you have maybe 10~20 hours of boring railroading left

I didn't play BG before EE.
The changes were ass.
I immediately turned them off.
The journal is shit.
The black void around maps is shit and immersion breaking.
The map zoom out is shit.
The only good change from the patch is the spellbook.

He worked on Dragonspear. And even if he was hired to do other things there is still zero evidence of BG3 being in development. Any claim to that effect is just you trying to start rumors.

1.3 are still on Steam, you can install them by picking them from the Betas tab.

But really basically all the redesign stuff is optional nowadays so I don't see a problem.

I think you've pretty much seen the best the game has to offer.

On the other hand, the game is definitely worth replaying with a different character / party / alignment.

Also apparently Throne of Bhaal is good. I only played it once and got stuck on a game breaking bug.

some secret project, no one knows. could be enhanced editions to icewind dale 2, torment or maybe even neverwinter nights.

or maybe it's bg3, they did hire gaider

Not the faggot you're talking to but
>The black void around maps is shit and immersion breaking.
You do realize it's optional and can be locked-in right? At least in 2.3, I know it was shit in 2.0

>The journal is shit.
They improved the UI as well and you can mod the old one back in if you so wish.

Personally I just use UI++ mod though.

>What's the point in having a vampire in the team if they have absolutely no cons to being a vampire?
She does have massive debuff to stats during daylight since she's heavily restricted by the protective claok she wears to not get burned by sunlight.

Oh shit, I completely forgot about underdark. So scratch that, I got to somewhere in underdark.

What about Throne of Bhaal, as this user said

>You do realize it's optional and can be locked-in right?
It's not optional though, when you zoom out on the map you get a big ol taste of black void.

>It's not optional though, when you zoom out on the map you get a big ol taste of black void.
I don't have the game installed right now to prove you wrong, but they literally added an option in patch 2.1 or so to make it behave just like before 2.0.
It's called "prevent going out of bounds" or something like that.

The dialogue involved with her quests was a new, never before seen low for me in vidya. I sent her straight back to the Coronet and never bothered finishing all of it after the chink mummy tomb.

I always use the keep to fuck with profencies
Not necessarily for cheese but I like mixing it up with my weapons

I enjoyed it my first time through.

My previous post about BG2 might have been a bit too harsh. On my first playthrough I really liked the whole game, but on replays everything just becomes "that part" and I never complete the game.

BG2 does give you a tremendous sense of a grand adventure though, so I'd say it's definitely worth to finish once.

man I hate Neera so much but they managed to top her with Hexxat
No gives a fuck about boring monk man
