*Shoots your back*
*Shoots your back*
currently doing a playthrough on hard mode where i wanna keep all four companions alive, just got the waterchip and haven't been killed once by friendly fire, to my surprise
deathclaws in boneyard and super mutant stuff will be fun
So you're just playing field medic spending all you turn action points on applying stims to your party memebers?
Well i tried doing that in f2, but they could wear armor in f2. Here it sounds much much harder.
It's very hard and very stupid because companions were shoehorned into the late stages of development and the engine could not support them properly.
>people actually prefer to play this over FO4 or even 3/NV
God it looks awful
He might have been more troublesome than helpfull, but he will remain my favourite isometric fallout companion, just for the sake of being the first one. To be honest I don't think I ever even bothered with other ones in FO1
FO1 Ian is probably the NPC companion with the most undeserved bad rep out of any game. He's fucking great and super accurate with a gun. All you have to do is simply never give him an automatic weapon of any sort. Same with all FO1 NPCs. It's not that they can't shoot, it's that the AI doesn't know how to use automatics properly (ie. it tries to use them from further than one step away).
Just give Ian your heaviest pistol and he's a huge asset.
Child detected.
It's an entirely different type of game really, I don't think you should compare old and new fallouts when it comes to gameplay. That being said, FO4 was shit and I would play old Fallouts instead of it without hestitations. FO3 was pretty good in my opinion though, despite all its flaws.
>tfw I savescum like a motherfucker in FO1 and 2
Especially in fights with like 6+ people. I'm not waiting all that fucking time for my turn just to do 2 damage or get a crit miss and drop my goddamn gun, fuck you.
well yeah i remember leaving Ian in followers library almost everytime even if he survives up to that point.
hm, i remember there was a small house left to fotc with three mercs in there, cant remember if theres any way to interact with them aside from gunshot diplomacy.
You should try wasteland. Thats a savescum simulator right there.
maybe in sandy shades but beyond that you should be able to level small guns to 80-90+ which should be more than enough
nope, no handholding
it is pretty hard
they have 10 stimpacks each, if they die in combat i reload the save before the fight (no savescumming mid fight for crits etc)
next thing i'm gonna try is giving everyone power fists, just to see how it goes
Me too man, I remember that in boss fight with Lieutenant I saved after literally every turn that went more or less all right and loaded everytime it didn't. In the end I won only because he ran out of ammo and had to fight me barefist
>people actually prefer to play this over FO4
I mean, we're talking about Fallout 4 here, is it really hard to see why?
>savescumming mid fight
its not working properly anyway, half the time your turn skips and you end up in even worse situation that you tried to avoid
*blocks ur path* is something that happened obnoxiously often in Fallout 1.
I recall having the ability to BUMP those fuckers was a huge QoL improvement in FO2.
>play 1/2
>get sick and tired of the slow as fuck turn base combat
>play tactics
>have the exact opposite problem
>Be me
>Going to destroy the Cathedral and finish the game
>Hype and dramatism level rising
>Reached the lower levels
>Fighting mutant abominations while suddenly I ran out of ammo
>Realisation hits me
>I forgot to restock
>FUCK
>Get back to surface
>Travel to HUB
>Can't get into gunrunners store because the guards completely blocks the one hex wide bridge
>Have to travel to the other side of the map because this is the only other place with ammo for my gun
>Return to Cathedral angry as fuck weeks of ingame time later because I forgot to stack on ammo
And that's how all the dramatism from game finale went to hell in my first playthrough
Did you turn combat speed up in the options? It can still be kinda slow if you're fighting like 10 people who all have to walk and shoot, but it alleviates the problem.
FO1 and FO4 are my favourite Fallout games.
you can turn off the turn-base mode in tactics though
Never give Tycho a combat shotgun
he has no HP and dies too fast especially in the late game
Pretty much any time I ran up against super mutants with him he got one shotted
>Did you turn combat speed up in the options?
Relevant question. Default speed for combat animations in FO1 is somewhere between "glacial" and "snail's pace" and the game is pretty much unplayable if you don't crank it way the fuck up. A lot of people might not even realize that it can be altered.
>he has no HP and dies
That's every FO1 NPC, by design. I read an interview with Fargo that said they deliberately made them fragile with permadeath because they wanted everybody's companions to be all dead at the end. Fallout is one character's story.
Out of the ones available in FO1, Ian is a solid performer. The real useless one is Katya, who can't use any good weapons and dies if anybody even looks at her.
She can use Laser Rifles.
Pretty sure she can't. She has Energy Weapons as her main skill, but her sprite doesn't have animation frames for anything except pistols. FO1/2 NPCs are constrained by what weapons they have animations for.
