Don't give up after the brutal early parts of the game.

smirk

HOI!

A loose butthole at the start then a cakewalk.

>"Behold, my demons!"
>Agi
>*smirk*
>Labrys Strike
>"Beyond the river is the land of the dead..."

One of the biggest examples of the inverse difficulty curve you'll ever find

BEHOLD, MY DEMONS!

You're going to get irritated at how slowly you'll level up and how little exp you get, but then eventually the experience will start pouring in.

Save your friends boyo

If this is your first SMT, then you're going to initially be very put off by the 'world'... but don't be fooled. The game is a LOT bigger and opens up a little later.

Been playing while dumping points into STR
I'm barely into the game, however, a few quests into Tokyo, when I found out that STR does fucking nothing.
Should I restart, or should I just go full Dex from now on, or what?

Just go full Dex. You need 100 STR for the best sword in the game anyway or something like that.

Game is fucking brutal until after the Minotaur boss(the first)

Then it gets fun

Difficulty is inversed though.

oh yeah it opens up dramatically after this, took me about 3-4 hours to get past Minotaur and the start.

Then the game really REALLY opens up and has like another 40+ hours.

OK, thank you.

Still on first playthrough here...
Just killed Isabeau... I felt a little sad about that because she was qt. Wasn't expecting Walter's outcome, which also made me sad... but killing that fag Jonathan will make it all worth it. About to clime the tower and invade Mikado with my boi Lucy.

Hoys

I got really frustrated playing this game and dropped it for like a week, they are extremely vague about how to get places and I keep getting overleveled as a result. Not that levels really seem to matter in this game.

SMTIV

A shitty overworld

The PSTD man

i'm playing it now and i just met tayama who asks me to kill yuriko so how long till the end?

It's pretty hard at the beginning unless you do every side-quest. Then you get to plot-twist land and instantly lose interest in continuing because the game becomes ridiculously easy.

My demons are a bit different!

How is this compared to SMT Nocturne and Strange Journey? For a while I was considering getting a 3DS just for this.

MAG is the only useful stat.

dex/luck is the best build
>desperate hit
>crits every time
>smirk

luk build is better. crits give you extra turns. do like 2 dex 2 agi 1 luk untill you feel your dmg is good and then just luk all the way.

...

i beat smt4. i dono what that means in the grand scheme of things but i didnt beat nocturne cause i lost my save on my emu and i never played strange journeys. But i was pissed about my smt4 playthrough cause somehow i sided with the angels when i hated their guts...

>tfw went a Str build in SMT IVA
It feels so useless.

Its a brilliant game with a classic SMT difficulty (only inverse, very front ended instead of towards the end).

If you like it, buy the other one too.

Excluding post game and DLC it's pretty easy except for three bosses (Minotaur,David and Beelzebub)
Dungeons are almost non-existent,there are really shitty procedurally corridors called domains and the big Law/Chaos dungeon and I guess just that
You can save anywhere and when you die you can pay a fee to revive
Fusing is really easy as you can choose all the skills so demons are basically skill containers

Its the dark souls of persona games

yeah, I think the margin you get for neutral is only like +-8 or something, and it doesn't help that some choices are basically

>do you support law?
>do you support chaos?
>but thou must pick one

I just went to the Ring of Gaea and went through 3 hallways, am I remotely near the end or have a long way to go still?

Middle

i think that still early 4th of the game maybe. You fighting some chinese demon?

You've got maybe half of the game ahead of you, but you might want to consider saving your game because you're close to the point of no return alignment-wise.

bump

>chinese boss
You mean vore mommy

where you at?

I actually didnt have the chance to play SMT games for the longest time, all I could do was SMT strange journey emulated on a flashcart but didnt finish cause it broke

Just bought a brand new physical copy of strange journey a few days ago.
Oh and I finished the first version of devil survivor back in the days.

Am I going in a good direction? I dont mind games being hard, rather, I fear that future ones may be easier than strange journey.

1, 2, If, Majin Tensei, Majin Tensei 2, Soul Hackers, Nocturne, DDS1, DDS2, DeSu(and Overclocked), Strange Journey, DeSu2(didn't bother with Record Breaker), 4, and Apocalypse. All the Persona games except the first and the shitty MMO as well if they count. I don't count them.

2/SJ/DeSu were my favorites, DeSu2/4/Apocalypse were my least favorite. 4 already felt like they were making a SMT game aimed at young teenagers but Apocalypse dialed it down to preteens. The only way I got through Apocalypse was by trying to convince myself the gameplay was good. But then the final dungeon happened. And then the Satan scene happened. And then the final boss happened.

Dive into the past games. DON'T MOVE FORWARD. SMT4 is entirely skippable. It plays like a game made by SMT fanboys instead of anyone with a creative vision.

aight, will do... after I finish this one 3 times at least I guess

>no raidou

By the time I got around to thinking about playing them they cost more than what I wanted to spend for them. If they emulate well I'll get around to them soon.

>SMT4 is entirely skippable. It plays like a game made by SMT fanboys instead of anyone with a creative vision.

Other than the demon designs SMT4 fits in just fine with the series.

smt4 was fine I think, maybe at the end of the neutral path it felt a little cheesy but it was alright

apocalypse, though...

IV and IVA had great music.
youtube.com/watch?v=J5XZzTq_gzI

The writing was awful and was obviously meant to appeal to a younger demographic. The story was a jigsaw puzzle made up of pieces of previous games. It executed nothing particularly well. The only compelling aspect of the story was civilization being reset by the angels while the old civilization still existed below ground and that stopped being important once you realized Tokyo was the rest of the game and there was nothing else in Mikado.

None of the previous mainline games relied so heavily on nostalgiabait because they had their own identities. I really wanted to like SMT4 but it just wasn't good enough to stand next to the main line titles and Strange Journey. It's like they took that shitty Amala section about Hijiri from Nocturne and wrote and entire game that poorly.

I don't want to be reminded of how awful the neutral path was. Not only was it a chore to get, it was the worst ending as well.

One of the only redeeming factors. The music is incredible. The graphics were also pretty great. But then again Fire Emblem Awakening also looked and sounded good and I still consider that game trash. Worse than SMT4 by a long shot but they're swimming in the same puddle of urine.

I really should pick this back up.

If you've got a PS3 you can get them as a PS2 classic, or at least 1 of them.
