General Zelda lore thread?
What's the reasoning behind the Temple of Time completely changing locations every time it appears?

It doesn't though.

>they kept the temple where it was
>they moved the castle down a cliff, miles away. brick by brick, where they reconstructed it

Because the developers don't really care about continuity between games. I wanted an overworld that would have at least a couple of subtle similarities to the Zelda 1 and 2 layout, but fuck me.

>all those names

That's basically the level of referencing BoTW gets as well. I guess That could be considered a subtle reference to the original.

It doesn't. It's just Hyrule Castle that changes location.

I understand Zelda has never given a fuck about consistency but I felt like creating this big open world should've included at least some kind of nice throwbacks to warm your nostalgia. All I can find has been the isle on Lake Hylia having the shrine at the bottom, and I guess the bridge of Eldin

If Ritos evolved from Zoras then why are there still Zoras?

Anyone able to catch the white (zelda's horse offspring) right after the horseride cutscene? I fucking gave up after an hour.

same reason why there are still apes in our world.

>TP
>ToT is in a massively overgrown forest grove
>BotW
>ToT is suddenly on an elevated plateau, no forest anywhere in sight
>ruins that are strongly implied to be the remains of Lon Lon Ranch appear nowhere near the temple

>Checkmate Terminians!

I need to know where this takes place in the timeline. I'm like 75% sure it's a prequel to ALTP but I don't know I haven't finished the game yet.

if humans evolved from monkeys why are there still monkeys

it's simple, because evolution occurs over millions of years and only the monkeys that were in a certain climate of the world evolved. There was a period where we were all from Africa and India and spread across, the people living around the river Nile kick-started modern civilization by using it to it's fullest potential.

they mix the official timeline connections with "it's the same story passed on through generations, constantly changing as its told by whoever was around at that time".

1 of three things
Bad lore design

Mistold story in lore as in a story gets changed as it passes from person to person

Alternate universes and each game takes place in a different one

>ruins that are strongly implied to be the remains of Lon Lon Ranch

Give me a break. Where? I didn't see anything that looked like a ranch. Either way it's ridiculous because clearly OOT did not take place on this plateau.

This. I wouldn't have gotten my hopes up if they hadn't been throwing around pic related in their promotions.

People mistranslated the name from old Hylian, it's the Temple of Time and Space. It moves where it wants when it wants.

>General
You're a fucking idiot and a newfag.

It mentions the Hero of Twilight, Hero of Time and whatever the fuck SS hero was.

I don't think you know what the world "general" means and how it can be used in a sentence.

So it's a sequel to TP? Well that was my second choice so good deal

These intense battles with the forces of darkness change the landscape user
Let's not forget that there's a shit ton of magic involved here

Game is clearly called The Legend of Zelda. Its a story thats passed down and retold like some Beowulf shit. Things will change.

>whatever the fuck SS hero was
He is the Chosen Hero or sometimes the Hero of Sky

Shut up Matt patt

I assume he means general as in non specific zelda game lore.

We know it's at least 10,000 years after Skyward Sword and that it'd come after TP and Wind Waker. Other than that, the game doesn't really hint at anything in particular.

Honestly, it probably doesn't take place on a specific timeline.

It references everything in conversations and its history. Unique elements to each timeline are all part of this game.

It's either a convergence, or Nintendo is already saying fuck it to the idea of a timeline. My money's on the latter.

All the legends are different interpretations of the world at various events in history. That's why each one is in a different art style and why everything doesn't line up exactly.

>it's the same story passed on through generations, constantly changing as its told by whoever was around at that time"

i like this kind of approach to storytelling throughout series. Its the same with the Mad Max films. I also like how it makes autists who absolutely must have a definitive, unwavering timeline in their fantasy games severely buttblasted.

Hey man. You got an overworld maze in the same general area.

>zelda lore

If there was one meme I wish would end, it's this one

Branch evolution.

Holy shit that is racist you can't call Zoras that.

So why does the TP forest temple have the Kokiri's symbol in it?

Doesn't Impa mention that Ganon was defeated with the Divine Beasts and an army of Guardians 10k years ago?

The reason is that most games in the series are not connected.

Why do you hate the fun of speculation?

If people evolved from Pokemon then why are there still Mankies?

She does, which means that if you absolutely must fucking have some connection to a previous game you need to accept that it took place literally 10K++ years ago
If Zelda has any kind of timeline it's officially on par with the spans of time you see in 40K

at the end of BotW Zelda mentions that calamity ganon had given up his reincarnation abilities to become the final phase. but after the fight it still looks like she just sealed him in some realm. so wtf

and in the secret ending she also says that they might even venture beyond hyrule once they finished fixing it up

That was a hundred years ago, user. The battle that the Hero of Wilds (fuck you that's what I'm calling him) took part in before he was sealed.

These games are not nearly as deep as you autists want them to be. What you're doing is basically creating fan fiction and doing the work Nintendo themselves can't be assed to do and never has. Zelda will never be the LOTR of vidya no matter how hard you want it to be.

>Things will change

Not him. One thing that's great about Hyrule is that it's a place that you come back to over time. It's the same place, but a lot of stuff changes between games. The problem I have is that it changes so much that it might as well be a new place altogether.

I want there to be more clues to where this was and that was in previous games. If they're going to call it The Hyrule Fantasy in its country of origin, they should at least google some of the old game maps and throw in a few relatively spaced objects here and there. For a company that depends on so much nostalgia baiting, this should be one of the first things Nintendo does in Zelda games.

I like the scifi elements in TLZ, but I wish they would take it further. I want Hyrule to be the remains of a long forgotten technological civilization whose achievements are not considered magic. And I'm not talking about those bird things, I'm talking about Hylians working 9-5 jobs in a futuristic city until some cataclysm struck.

So, why do you hate the fun of speculation?

This Zelda happens before OoT
That is the Skyloft temple.
The whole plateau is skyloft

Wait, so why exactly can't it just be different Temples of Time constructed multiple times in different locations after the last had been destroyed?

>Fi is still alive and sentient, that she tells Zelda that they can still save Link.
I loved the Skyward Sword reference

Really? That's good to hear. I did not know this. Is there anything else that you see that is similar?

>This Zelda happens before OoT
it taking place after OoT is the one canon thing the devs have said. this is why no one takes Sup Forums seriously, can't even get the basic facts right

I get what youre saying... but its fiction within fiction.

I fucking knew I recognized Maze Island from another game

I agree. It was cool seeing things like the Mirror of Twilight, or the Temple of Time in BotW and TP. It'd be great if they tried to be slightly more consistent with general geography, put some nice direct references, like how in Super Metroid you could go to the final boss area of the original.

So you can get 20 hearts in this game?

The ruins scattered about give me a Zelda 2 vibe.
And the return of Lynels.

If this is the worst inconsistency your ant brain can find in the Zelda series it might be best for all parties involved if you blow said brain out with a firearm.

I've felt this way for years but I've given up expecting anything from Nintendo. I don't expect a copypaste of the same world but the radical fucking shits of geography (Death Mountain and the Lost Woods zipping all over the fucking place) lead me to just believe Nintendo doesn't care.

You can get a heart for every four Spirit Orbs, and there are at least 100 shrines in the game.
Though you might want to spend at least a few of those on stamina

Getting pidgeon holed into a 'mapped out Hyrule' is the one thing Nintendo does not want to do with Zelda, idiot.

It's taking liberties as according to Zelda II the entirety of Zelda 1's map is just a tiny little patch of land.
The developers probably put the Zelda 1 portion in as a throwaway joke as I doubt they would ever realize there would be autists 30 years later trying to rationalize everything about every game in the series.

you are not speculating. there is no 'lore'. the devs don't care.
what you're doing is slamming your head against a wall

RUDE

The entire plateau is the OoT overworld

Aonuma said also the FDLink is the voice of Terminians even if in the game it is clearly stated that FDLink is a demigod from ancient times
Aonuma knows nothing.
This game is clearly before OoT, before the split

So spend 5 on stamina and 20 on hearts

>This Zelda happens before OoT

>Ganon existing before Ganondorf is born

Okay

Yeah, I realize your point. But in fiction there are still basic rules that make the difference between good fiction and lazy fiction. I feel like it is lazy fiction when a series of games are supposed to take place in the same kingdom and world but the storytellers wipe the slate clean in-between chapters.

The original idea of the games is that almost all of them are independent. The name of the series says exactly what it its: a legend, and each game is a different version of the story. The timeline publication was an ill-advised move done in the lowest point of the franchise's history in an attempt to do something for the fans. Unfortunately, they've never heard of Sonic, and so they saw the autistic timeline faggots and thought that was the best they had to work with.

So, why do you hate the fun of speculation?
No one is taking this too seriously. It's all just for the sake of entertainment and seeing if we can make connections. It's a thrill.

It references Skyward Sword link, OoT Link, and TP Link

They literally outright mention the Zora Divine Beast was named after Ruto, who awakened as a Sage.

What are the references?

>MFW the Sheikah race is not extinct or Impa is not the last one.
Just wish they were not so blatantly Japanese.

TIME LINE
CO N V E R G E N C E

we /dark souls/ now

There is no timeline

OOT didn't even have time travel until the last few months of development, they always winged it when it came to the story

100 years ago when Zelda gives Link this ceremony she mentions the soul of the hero has been in the sky, through time and in twilight or some shit

>Having a couple of throwback clues to previous game maps is being pigeon-holed, but telling the same story with the same three characters for 30 years is fine.

>Aonuma knows nothing
>Proceeds to out himself as haven't even played the game

?????

Story =/= gameplay
If fudging the map is better for the gameplay/progression, they do it.

Not if you consider each "chapter" a different interpretation. The stylistic differences help to play into it.

Ganondorf is just an incarnation of Demise now thanks to SS ruining his character and motivations. If they called it anything but Ganon it would still work before OoT.

It's almost as if... Wait... Almost as if...

They design the world to fit the gameplay and change what they want to change disregarding what previous teams did because it's irrelevant...

Almost as if all this timeline bullshit was to placate nerds on the internet who don't even play the games...

Wow...

youtu.be/vwf2QDv5DfU

all the girls are qt as fuck at least, even the old ones are cute.

You're taking this more seriously than we are.
Chill out.

The timeline was an afterthought to put together a book to get more shekels.

It is pigeon holing when you map out where each region of Hyrule in each other and that will severely limit with what you can do in the future in that kingdom.

As for the characters themselves, I don't see much comparison considering one is literally a blank slate and all three of them have barely any personality beyond their role that they play (hero, princess, tyrant).

Ganondorf is an experiment of the Twinrova sisters to reincarnate Demise in a man.
Afterall in BotW Ganon is machine. A failed experiment of controlling a force of nature
In ss you can travel in time and the interloper war happened. So no
It's VahRuta not ruto
Aonuma never played zelda 2
Check mate

Evryone is cute. Male, Female, all the races, whatever.
It's a cute game.

Except they explicitly mention the Hero of Time in game
The Rito and Koroks exist in BotW, meaning it would have to take place sometime between OoT and Wind Waker (or possibly after WW)

Ganondorf is an incarnation of him, yes, but Ganon is just a warped and twisted Ganondorf. We don't get a new Ganon everytime there's a new Zelda and Link.

The fact that it is Ganon makes it not work before OoT.

Wonder if he ever finished Zelda 1 as in old interviews he always said the game was too hard for him.

how the fuck

They also mention the Hero of Twilight.

If you can't see how Vah Ruta is clearly inspired from Ruto you might be an idiot.

Vah Ruta =Ruto
Vah Rudania = Darunia
Vah Medoh = Medli
Vah Naboris = Nabooru

I remember somebody calls Link the hero of time in SS

youtu.be/o-dx-t9trm0?t=43m55s 43:55

Can't be after WW as the Master Sword would be leagues under the sea buried in Ganondorf's skull still.

yeah but no one is cuter than koko

I'm not asking for them to turn the whole ship over. I want some Easter eggs that mean nothing unless you are looking for them. A wrecked building, a petrified tree trunk, spectacle rock, a cave with a skeleton and two burnt out torches.
