To give you a reference point:

The GPU in the Switch is half as powerful whiled docked as the weakest desktop Maxwell card.

PS3 portable

youtube.com/watch?v=l92h28Uip-U

Here's what GTA V looks like on a GT720M, a card roughly as powerful as Switch while docked.

If GTA V can run on a PS3 it can run on the Switch

game runs at like sub 720p on PS3 and has drops to 20fps

I'd take the shitty graphics from the video at 1080p anyday

You have autism for making this thread all the time.

Eh, they can probably get it to 720p 30fps

stop with this thread already.
I hope that nitendo fails after this stupid bullshit tablet
and fuck you

This without the games tho

I call not having glass utter horse shit, every half decent phone/tablet has some kind of gorrilla glass 3 or 4. Using plastic in a $300 tablet is incredibly fucking cheap

Not bad. About three times as powerful as the Vita and that had some pretty cool looking games. More powerful than the PS3 when docked although we don't know yet how restricted the processor is due to thermal throttling.

Shit everything else though, waiting for the inevitable 3 revisions.

Really? jesus that's shithole

GTA is alot more cpu intensive than gpu, I doubt GTA V would run better on switch than on the ps3/360

I agree with this.
CPU is the worst part of the performance specs, battery should have been a little bigger and plastic screen is stupid.
It's fine but i'm not buying it until it has more games and probably a hardware revision.

>why the fuck didnt they use glass on a portable?

Because it's more expensive, and HD rumble is already increasing the price enough.

PSV graphics are garbage at sub 540p

cheaptendo and their 2:1 profit margin

>HD rumble

some cheap as shit linear actuator

"HD rumble" increases their cost no more than a dollar at most. Kimishima is just going full Jew.

Gorilla glass isn't expensive.
I've seen estimates on phone sized screens of around $3

that's already like half the manufacturing cost of the switch

>PSV graphics are garbage at sub 540p

no one bothered to program the Vita seriously

I had that game too, probably the best looking game, maybe golden abyss but that was sub resolution garbage

killzone actually had a dynamic resolution and when you stopped turning the camera it went to native 540p, when you moved it went to sub 540p, so your screenshot is also a bit dishonest in that regard

source: digital foundry as always

the game models in this game were also seriously blocky, like round things looked like PS2 era ''round'' things

textures are muddy as fuck too

don't get me wrong, cool for a portable console but this was like PS2 geometry with some PS3 effects and a lot of things between the two

>we don't know yet how restricted the processor is due to thermal throttling.
Anandtech said "The thermal solution is excellent, and the frame rates were consistent across all the benchmark runs" about the shield TV which had a similar tiny fan and heatsink but at higher clocks.
I'm sure the switch won't throttle at the clocks it's set.

oh and also wipeout 2048 should get a honorable mention

Agreed.
The vita was alright but it wasn't a portable PS3.
The switch on the other hand is very close to that.
Might still be a little weaker in the CPU department but just about there in GPU and memory bandwidth. It also has a good deal more memory to boot.

How many times can you make the same fucking thread over and over again?

well it'd be cool to see some PS3 Uncharted tier visuals from the Switch but there hasn't been announcements for games like that so it's a bit hard to tell what the switch can actually do, I don't want to get burned so I won't be too optimistic though

How much stronger is the switch in handheld mode compared to the 3DS?

I am interested in the switch to replace my new3ds.

literally 50-100 times

3DS is weak as fuck

kyokojap.myweb.hinet.net/gpu_gflops/

Gflops comparisons aren't everything but it does give a vague idea

Well will get the Switch then.

I usually buy Nintendo Handhelds because its literally all exclusives and for the other games I have my gayming PC.

Nothing more comfy when I get back home from work and make myself some coffee, smoke a cig and play some games on my 3DS.

neat

it's currently a zelda machine though

and the coming lineup seems a bit weak too, with most games being Wii U ports

are there any co op games I can play with my wife?

Also I hope that many of the 3DS devs will start making games for the switch.

>why the fuck didnt they use glass on a portable?
children are stupid, and they would drop the swicth at the minor provocation

yeah I guess

snipperclips is co op

mario kart and arms are split screen multiplayer

there's probably a few more

there's some competitive tetris game coming

bomberman

CPU alone is ~25x faster. Let's break it down.
The o3DS is a dualcore ARM11 at 268MHz so lets break this down.
First in order of release it goes ARM11>Cortex A8>Cortex A9>Cortex A15>Cortex A57
The cortex A8 has around 2 times the instructions per clock as ARM 11
The Cortex A9 is about 25% faster than that so 2.5x ARM11
The Cortex A15 is about 40% faster than the A9 clock for clock and core for core that so 3.5x ARM11
And finally we have the Cortex A57 which is... pretty much the same as the Cortex A15, it's 64 bit though, so... cool.
So the 3DSs clock speed is about 3.7x lower than the Switch's which gives us a figure of about 13x faster per core and 26x faster overall.
So a massive uptick.

>I hope that nitendo fails after this
Come one user, why would you want to have less competition on the vidya market? Yes, they treat their customers like subhumans with things like censorship, but if sony and MS didnt had nintendo as competition most games would be gray FPSs

>More powerful than the PS3 when docked
Barely more powerful than a console released 11 years ago

you can probably also leverage that CPU better with modern graphics APIs

It's portable....

When I'm playing botw in handheld mode the last thing I'm thinking about is the specs. It runs great

That being said the framerate in TV mode is horrible, but I'm sure that could be fixed with a patch if Nintendo cared/enough people complained. But going forward I'm sure all non ports will run fine, most first party wii u games had a locked framerate

So is my samsung phone, and its 3x as powerful

cool, when's the NX coming?

oh wait, switch is also their console... maybe it should just stay portable

>literally 99% of peoples concerns with the switch could have been eliminated if they just made it a handheld first and foremost then sold the dock later along the line as a standalone item

fuck sake nintendo

I do love my vita.

I think you have things mixed up there buddy. It's alright, since I'm here to help you out. Switch is getting a good game at the end of its first year. PS3 didn't get a good game until the second or third year of its life.

Not when docked.

what game? mario odyssey? but seriously though it's a bit stupid that that's the only thing to look forward to

Modern smart phone and tablet glass is more durable than plastic.

Even Naughty Dog, the gods of playstation
youtube.com/watch?v=MUREGAg3Tj8

Why do the adreno GPUs have such high scores?
No way in hell a snapdragon 810 is faster than an Apple A10.

that's made by sony bend

>killzone actually had a dynamic resolution and when you stopped turning the camera it went to native 540p, when you moved it went to sub 540p, so your screenshot is also a bit dishonest in that regard
This, but it did also use 4x MSAA which was pretty impressive. Still the best looking game I've ever played on the Vita.

it's for the GPU figures first of all, not CPU

iOS has metal API

Gflops gives only a ballpark idea

Android games are optimized horribly because of the fragmented nature of the platform

and the 810 GPU is pretty powerful, I don't see a problem with it being stacked against the A10 GPU

and lastly

Gflops is simply how many floating point calculations it can perform in a second, 95% of graphics calculation heavily involve floating point calculations, that's why Gflops is a good way to roughly compare

Also 3x more expensive.

Use your brain. Nintendo could easily make the most powerful device on earth.

no fucking way it had 4x MSAA, neat if true though

Is RE 7 confirmed for the Switch in some capacity? I've seen this image floating around the web for months now.

>the 810 GPU is pretty powerful, I don't see a problem with it being stacked against the A10 GPU
The A10 is devastatingly powerful, it crushes even the SD820s by a wide margin, it's like 4 times faster than an 810
I don't see metal being completely responsible for that it's clearly faster than at least the 810s

If Nintendo were not so cheap they could have got a Tegra P1, the 50gb's of bandwidth would have made a big difference, easily have pushed a smooth 1080p with improved visuals in BOTW

25gb's of bandwidth with a 64bit bus is a massive bottleneck

>its 3x as powerful
no it isnt

well A10 gets about double the score in ice storm unlimited compared to Adreno 430

I guess the problem was that design on this could have started as far back as 2015, they'd have had to delay the release of the Switch maybe even as much as 6 months to incorporate the T2

Doesn't that thing max out at 60fps?

no

Don't smoke user or you won't be able to 3ds and chill when you're in your 60s

I simply can not find a snapdragon 810 benchmark that was done in the same batch as a iphone 7's but if this is anything to go by the domination over snapdragon 820s is not affected by this particular test.

Maybe you should have less shit taste

Splatoon 2, ARMS, MK8D, Xenoblade 2, Project Octopath, SMT V

seems like qualcomms clock are all over the place though

and of course the 810 has an generation older GPU

Just for reference when comping computing power:

Xbox 360/PS3 ~ 0.25 teraflops
Wii U: 0.75 teraflops
Switch: 1 teraflops
XBone: 1.3 teraflops
PS4 1.8 teraflops
PS4 Pro: 4.2 teraflops
Xbox Scorpio: 6 teraflops

PS3: 0.4TF
Wii U: 0.35TF
Switch: 0.15-0.4TF
Xbone: 1.4TF
PS4: 1.84TF

get your facts right

See that's what i was saying about being done in the same batch.
These mobile benchmarks change their systems all the time with no warning, on update 5 point somehting they say, antutu's scores grew 3 sizes that day. It looks like a similar thing has happened to this benchmark
I highly doubt the nexus 6 is about as fast as an LGG5

Pointless comparison.

I don't care enough to google image search benchmark results becasue fucking 3mark retards only have desktop results or something on their page

wait 393 GFLOPS docked? Isnt that like Ps3 specs right there?

Not him but:
>Splatoon 2
I didn't really like 1 and this looks exactly the same
>ARMS
It's like what i hated about splatoon, the absolutely no content beyond the base vs game except even more simple.
Maybe for like $10-$15 but not a full release
>MK8D
Port of somehting i already played and got bored of
>Xenoblade 2
Interested in
>Project Octopath
No way that is an exclusive. Square enix is almost as big a whore as capcom.
>SMT V
No way that's releasing this year.

I'm definitely not getting a switch this year unless there's a surprise pokemon or animal crossing game for holidays release or somehting else that will never happen.

lol, you're wrong

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_gaming_platforms

what a fucking useless wiki written by some retard

>no source

nice

>derp, I make up numbers and then mad when they are different from reality.

that 300Gflop figure is only speculative

that snapdragon figure has barely any backing on the internet

also the GPU in the A10 has that double the half precision performance, just like modern Nvidia

where say it pushes that 300Gflops FP32, it can push 600Gflops FP16

Eh i found it.
futuremark.com/hardware/mobile/Huawei Nexus 6P/review
futuremark.com/hardware/mobile/Apple iPhone 7/review
The iphone 7 does about 40% better in physics and about 2x better in graphics like you said.
I now notice that I wrongly thought that bunch at the bottom of the manhattan test were 810s and that's what started this confusion.
Still while it's not as good as i claims the A10 is a beast of an SoC it makes no sense why that list would rate it even vaguely much lower than processors it's faster than.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3_technical_specifications

>The PS3 uses the Cell microprocessor, which is made up of one 3.2 GHz PowerPC-based "Power Processing Element" (PPE) and six accessible Synergistic Processing Elements (SPEs). A seventh runs in a special mode and is dedicated to aspects of the OS and security, and an eighth is a spare to improve production yields. PlayStation 3's Cell CPU achieves a theoretical maximum of 230.4 GFLOPS in single precision floating point operations and up to +15 GFLOPS double precision using iterative refinement for the solution of linear equations.[1][2]

>According to Nvidia, the RSX—the graphics processing unit (GPU)—is based on the NVIDIA G70 (previously known as NV47) architecture. The GPU is clocked at 500 MHz and makes use of 256 MB GDDR3 RAM clocked at 650 MHz with an effective transmission rate of 1.3 GHz.[4] The RSX has a floating-point performance of 400.4 GFLOPS.[5]

>512? (FP32) / 1024? (FP16)
>@1000Mhz
>devices: nintendo switch

now do the math with the clock speeds the switch runs at and you'll end up with the figures in OP

>HD rumble is already increasing the price enough

This is a great meme. Very funny.

Nintendo is really out-jewing themselves on this one.

The price is fine in japan though :3

I mean yeah, the A10 is the best smartphone chip right now and it also does that half precision FP16 meme as already mentioned, maybe it can leverage even more performance that way

who wants to bet someone's battery overheats and pops

It's a handheld for children. Glass shatters, while plastic holds up far better. Kids are pretty much guaranteed to drop shit and if the screen shatters it's worthless, but they're not gonna notice scratches over a backlight. That's the reasoning behind it. Not all tech is designed with 20-30 year olds in mind.

>Glass shatters, while plastic holds up far better.
What. No, that's idiotic, glass is far more resilient. An impact that'd shatter modern scratch-resistant glass would probably break the cheap plastic housing on th Switch first. People drop their phones all the time and it's usually fine.

And if they were designing the thing for children, the thing would've been way more robust because the first thing that breaks in a fall are the joycons. Also you wouldn't be able to put the wristraps in the wrong way round.

>An impact that'd shatter modern scratch-resistant glass would probably break the cheap plastic housing on th Switch first
Not scratch resistant glass.
Scratch resistant glass is actually fairly brittle, comparatively, it's a trade off.
Gorilla glass 5 is more shatter resistant but it's actually less scratch resistant than 4 and 3.
I dont know how shatter resistant the switch screen is but plastic is definitely better suited to that kind of stress than glass in principle, it would have to be pretty cheap shit to be worse than even the best glass.

Like half the people I work with have broken their screen. But that's how cell phones are designed, knowing people will just replace it every year anyway. Meanwhile the switch screen has already been tested and shown to be incredibly resilient, and it's the joycons that will break when dropped.

>When I'm buying a Nintendo console the last thing I'm thinking about is the specs.

ftfy

I sort of like it because the idea of having a glass facing covering the entirety of the phone is just retarded imo, especially since if it drops and lands just right you can kiss it good by.

Glass screen. Plastic bezel. But no, nintendo is too Jew for to spend an extra $2

>4310mAh
Phone in pic related has 2.3 times bigger battery and costs twice less than the Switch

PS3 GPU is between the 750 Ti and 760

"no"

PS3 had a trick up its sleeves in that Cells 6 SPEs could assist with graphical work. They're basically four wide SIMD arrays. While the GPU was worse than the 360s by a good margin, if your game didn't take shit all to run on CPU you could cheat it.

Thats how Uncharted worked, everything CPU wise was run on the PPE. Switch doesn't have nearly as much CPU SIMD resources.
