I'm not super far in but the story seems absolutely shit, the gameplay is tight but shallow, it does a lot of little system things well i.e. dynamic hud, crafting systems, tracking ai paths for stealth (which is kinda shit desu). Think witcher lite with less content, heavier focus on ranged combat. I'm not disappointed that i got it but with everything else thats releasing right now its far away from like must play tier or anything.

Theres a wierd focus in the story on empowered women being empowered, there is clearly a political agenda behind it. If story doesnt matter to you the gameplay is bacisally "shoot robot here, thing falls of, robot is weaker now". It has crafting which i know turns a lot of people offf, but the upgrades actually make a difference. Good not great, wait for sale unless you have literally nothing else tp play right now.

not really though. the women, aloy especially, are portrayed as petty, grudge holding, narcissists who cant really do shit on their own. Rost just does what he knows is right the whole time despite being considered a leper. I'd say the gender portraits are fairly accurate.

The fucking matriarchy is consistently showed to be flawed with Aloy consistantly disagreeing with their laws and not really holding them in high regard at all. She thinks casting people out and not speaking to them is ridiculous and constantly ignores the law that you cant speak to outcasts. The matriarchy isn't perfect and the fucking main character shows that.

and its been 100,000 years under control of the Matriarchy and the best humanity has done is to live in huts, and do a little bit of masonry work. They dont even understand the machines around them

Havent played botw, dont intend to until i can emulate it but im guessing since its loz its some variation on princess in trouble, do thing save princess, kill ganon. But for everything it does right, which is quite a lot especially in terms of QOL stuff for an open world game, at least one writer on staff for horizon clearly wanted to do a story that focused on the matriarchy and having women in power. What it says *about* that I'm not sure yet, although at the outset it seems like the ruling faction in aloys tribe isnt at all better off for being women. I never said the agenda was to take a position and assert it, simply that there was an agenda in some element of the writing, which was to have a story wherein women have more cultural significance than men

Fun. The world is varied, and beautiful to look at and just get lost in; the combat is satisfying and dynamic; the main story so far is pretty "eh", it's more interesting to uncover what actually went down in the past. I've been playing for ~20 hours this weekend, and I've only seen 1/5 of the map and barely scratched the main quest. tldr: shit's good.
