Assault rifles are boring. What are some games with good light machine guns?

Half-Life: Opposing Force

Assault rifles can be customized for a million different roles
LMG's are just re-skins of the same bullet hose

Fag

Bf4, arma3, l4d2 sorta

Halo 5.

Battlefield 1

arma 3 = long range bullet hose
l4d2 = no lmgs at all, there are some hmg emplacements and a minigun here and there though
bf4 is just another arcade shooter so I can only guess that lmgs are high cap assault rifles

Far cry 4

>l4d2 = no lmgs at all

Oh yeah there was that one bullet hose.
So much for your point.
Hold left click and turn your brain off?

>So much for your point.
My point was that there's a good LMG in L4D2, I think I'm rather correct on that one.

Red orchestra.
>tfw you set up on a good spot and mow the entire enemy team down.

...

So this good LMG you're talking about. It kills in one hit, and the best way to use it is to pretend it's a semi-auto rifle, it even penetrates multiple infected so no need for full auto even in a horde... What's the point? It was just a high cap sniper

The point is to use it to kill zombies. It's really good at it too so I don't know what's confusing you here.
It is also different than a sniper since you can't zoom in, have one large magazine that you can't refill and have better aim while moving than with a sniper.

God that gun was fucking amazing

Yeah fuck that, someone tell me some games with good musket?

What's confusing me is that you called assault rifles boring, and when I told you why it was the opposite you replied to me like you had something to say. You've yet to talk about my first post and why it is incorrect

Insurgency.
Laying covering fire was fun as fuck.
Playing with bots you just fire at point with M249 and get top score all the time.

arma 2 has the best m249

>LMGs are just reskins
That's so wrong it hurts. You've got low RPM, large caliber LMGs, you've got intermediate round high RPM suppression machines, you've got small magazine fed, long barrel LMGs that are basically long range variants of ARs, etc.

LMG are the support class of weapons, who don't want to play the main character ?

no ;_;

>game makes it noticeable with LMGs having less power than ARs when they use the same cartridge

I'm not OP, was my first post.
I don't think assault rifles are boring, they're very similar to LMGs except they usually have less recoil and bullets. I also don't think that LMGs are all the same bullet hose. Compare the M240 and M60 from CoD4, you can't say they're the same gun.

Mount and blade naploleonic

>extra ammo for a combined 600 (or 800?) ammo max
>never take a position and never stop shooting

Feels great man.

Insurgency.
m249 is cool in this game

"long range bullet hose" is basically the purpose of a machine gun in real life, though. Arma MGs have the weight fairly well modelled and suppressive fire is an effective tactic. What more could you ask for?

>support class
>responsible for the most casualties during wars (not counting artillery)

I like your post, but let's be real here, how many games feature advanced variants? All of them just have your generic popular lmgs and you're lucky if you can even slap a nice sight on it
>you've got small magazine fed, long barrel LMGs that are basically long range variants of AR
cool, but games don't use those setups

>What more could you ask for?
The answer to why OP thinks ar's are boring while samey lmgs are not
Genuinely curious here, always found them boring

>Hey Bob, can you shoot in that direction for 30 sec so we can move and do all the job ?

>bad company 2
>medic class with mg36
Easy way to spot a noob in BC2 is to watch what gun he's using, if it's anything else other than an mg36 then he's a 100% massive fucking faggot and probably a noob too.

>>you've got small magazine fed, long barrel LMGs that are basically long range variants of AR
>cool, but games don't use those setups
Battlefield 4 has L86 and U-100 which are exactly that

I can confirm this

>long range bullet hose
How's that a bad thing you fucking fag?

source ?

And RPK.

Those two are disgusting, but there you have the answer to OP's question. Enjoy it or whatever, I'll be in the corner, puking.

RPK 12 and RPK 74m more specifically. The first is good as a laser beam with a bipod and the second one is pretty much an assault rifle with lower rpm. L86 and U100 are absolute trash though.

...

Red Orchestra 2/ Rising Storm

Don't forget the MG36 in the previous BC games.

"Bullet hose" is a really retarded pejorative

>What more could you ask for?
For suppressing fire to actually be effective. Doesn't matter what game it is, even those that have tried some weird forced suppressing mechanics, suppressing fire doesn't work in a video game.
If the weapon is accurate enough to hit the enemy, the player is going to shoot to kill. Never is spraying useful.
If the weapon is not accurate enough and sprays at random, the enemy can take their sweet time to fire back and shoot to kill.
Accuracy is king in shooters, rivaled by speed.

suppressing fire works in Arma 3

>Accuracy is king in shooters, rivaled by speed.
Only if you play corridor shooters. Tactical positioning is king in shooters, flanking half of the enemy team in battlefield and then mounting your machine gun down on a bipod and mowing them down is the best feeling ever.

>clearing a house with an mg42
I know this weapon is OP but this is so satisfying.

Rising storm 2 vietnam has pretty good LMG's. Wait for the proper release though.

Suppression absolutely works in games, just not to the extent that it does in real life.
I can't tell you how many times i've been fucked in RO2 because of suppression fucking up my aim.

>Every shooter
>LMGs do less damage than ARs
>LMGs have less accuracy and fire rate then SMGs

Why do they do us like that?

Because nobody likes you

Fuck you have some severe autism

Its all pretend nigger, you dont know me
my dik bigger

It's not a LMG if it's 7.62

At that point it's a GPMG

Strangely I've found that supressive fire works best in non-realistic games, if you have an weapon that fires slow projectiles and the games has an way to regain health, by shooting at an chokepoint or near cover you can force the enemy to back off and reduce his maneuver options in a similar way to supressive fire irl.

Isn't it still an lmg if its 7.62x39?

Titanfall 2

No it's a GPMG then/

.50 is HMG

If you've ever held a 7.62 MG you'll realise why it's not called an LMG and why LMGs were adopted

Have some respect for the deads, user

I used to do that a lot in BF4 and it's quite effective actually.

L-STAR is my jam

When I think about it the one game where suppressive fire actually works is Team Fortress 2, if you can call it that.

The M60's and .50 BMG's are technically regular MG's and HMG's respectively, not LMG's. Same difference between battle/DM rifles and intermediate/assault rifles, or hunting/sniper/AT rifles and varmint rifles.

For reference, the M249's and Negevs in CS are LMG's.

That's a mass-zombie shooter, not a tacticool ARMA military-sim. The hell did you expect?

Why would an LMG, a heavier weapon have more recoil? Is it like that in real life or is it just a video game balance thing?

If its an intermediate/assault rifle caliber its an LMG, if its a full/combat rifle caliber it can be called a medium or general purpose MG, .50 and above and it is called an Heavy MG.

7.62x39 is the AK caliber so it would be an LMG.

This thread belongs to /k/

7.62x39 is an intermediate caliber just like 5.56x45. Isn't an lmg just a machine gun that fires intermediate caliber bullets.
Also I have shot a RPD, which is a 7.62x39 lmg back when I was in conscription. Though I haven't shot or handled any other lmg so its kinda hard to make comparisons.

Most games have difficulty portraying weapon handling because people throw a fit when they can't point and shoot.

Ghost recon had a pretty good lmg, but not much opportunity to use it

Battlefield Vietnam and bf2142 had good ones too

Here's a thought:
Gameplay balance > Realism

Why do you feel a need to say that?

>tfw really like the idea of placing myself on top of a building with an LMG, and basically playing a full auto sniper
>tfw can't aim for shit using the 4x24 scope
end my life desu

>M240b
>spent brass ejects from the side

*the* need, you illiterate Pajeet

the guass saw and EM6 on planetside 2 lets you cut through infantry running down range in an open field and boy is it fun to see vanu cry about it

> Playing NCR

i'd be damned to play vanu and TR is easymode

the KZ3 version was GODLIKE

But I am from Finland user. All of my ancestry is Finnish or Swedish. I'm probably whiter than you.

>Playing NC
>Not fighting for unity and humanity
>Not wanting to return home
>Guass

>playing the overpowered factions

>tfw rambo medic with M60 in Bad Company 2

What about the Heavy AR from Doom 4? It is technically more like a light machine gun than it is a rifle.

2/10 bait

is bc2 still alive?
i just want to transport troops in a heli again with the one dedicated gunner that mows down everyone

I'll take "what is m60" for 600 tim.

ArmA 3 has the best feeling LMGs IMHO. I hated MGs before ArmA.

Guass is the correct spelling in Conglomerican English.

>be weak corporate slave secessionist
>has the gall to complain

>tfw will never get to own an M60

MGS:PW

>Gauss saw
>Scatmaxes
>Vanguards
>Keklone
>Bolt-action as default sniper
>Airhammer
:^)

>Complaining about Vanguards

I'm TR and even I know that's bullshit. Vanguards are the most fun tank but Prowlers eat them for breakfast.

i honestly don't care about the bullshit weapons TR an vanu get
i just want these dumb developers to remove the "no sway sniper of fuck you" so the game can stop being 50% snipers

Very much so. It's on steam too.

fag

Red Orchestra 2

But you can have one too.
