Do you think nintendo would of stood a better chance if they just realeased a system that had no gimmicks?

>would of

Yes, though.

no because gamers already play their core games on xbox, playstation, or pc.

it would have been another gamecube situation.

by creating a unique product, they put themselves in a situation where they have no competition. at least thats what they are trying to do.

They already did.

Imagine the Pro controller with
>no HD rumble
>no nfc scanner
>gyroscope can stay, it's good for aiming

What exactly is the gimmick here? The portability? You don't even have to use that. You can keep the console at the base and just play it like a home system. I just foresee a line of games similar to that for the handheld games being released for this one alongside titles intended for the home. Or just use it as a handheld and only buy the handheld games.

Rumble is pretty standard in all controllers, mate.

HD rumble you dumb cunt

Its not a console, lmao, its a glorified tablet.

No, but they would have stood a better chance if they made a console with better hardware.

Sure would be great to not have to pay $70 and $80 for controllers

It's marketed as a home system and has games that aren't normally on portable consoles. I'm pretty sure this classifies it as a home system. You seem triggered.

Zelda and mario arent on portable consoles?

>you can keep it at the base and just play it like a home system

But it would be a much better console if it wasn't built to also be portable. When hardware comes to mind, it seems most people just focus on graphics, but the capabilities of the Switch are brought down by the fact that its hardware has to exist within a tiny tablet. Nintendo's line of consoles have an 11 year history of being held back by their hardware in favor of form, since production of the Wii was focused on creating a sleek looking console at the cost of being comparable power-wise to the original Gamecube. When you make those cuts, it takes a decade for a 3D Mario game to not be about climbing blocks in floating space. When you choose to focus on providing a gimmick or putting on a face for the brand, ports can either drown in low FPS or face severe cuts, such as what happened with Dead Rising.

They've shot themselves in the foot merely to provide a gimmick that only lasts for 3-4 hours and brings the entire console down.

Not the big ones, unless you count remakes.

either nintendo goes 3rd party or they go pc, they fucking done

yes, especially having it a a portable shit like rumble and wireless constant wireless signals are just unnecessary drains on the battery/batteries.
But that isn't what the shareholders want to hear

of course not
how the fuck can nintendo compete with the app store, google play, sony, microsoft, and steam?
gimmicks are the only thing that can keep them alive in this market.

>n64
>gamecube
vs
>DS
>3DS

no

This would have been a revolutionary Wii-tier success back in 2012.

So you guys think Nintendo will go third party after this generation? At this point I don't see many other options for them.

People have literally been saying this for over 20 years.

The HD rumble was proven to be a standard vibration motor

that's because people expected that like the Gamecube, the Wii would have games eventually. And everyone got burned on the Wii. And then everyone got burned on the WiiU. And they're still expecting that amazing first and third party support will happen for the Switch.

No, because then it would be even more of a Nintendo Machine, and it's been proven that being a Nintendo Machine isn't enough.
People have no reason to buy 3rd party AAAs on Nintendo because they can already play them on the PS4 or Xbox they already have.

But then what would Sony copy?

>Sure would be great to not have to pay $70 and $80 for controllers

$80 for a PAIR of controllers that have a 20 hour battery life isn't exactly horrible.

>$80 for a PAIR of controllers

Yeah a pair if you'd like to consider one of these tiny abominations an actual controller on its own

I've tested them out, while I prefer the joycon mated to the grip to form a single larger controller they do make perfectly adequate controllers on their own when attached to the straps.

Whether you, personally, consider it a controller or not is irrelevant - it IS a controller.

yeah
