2016

Either Motorstorm Pacific Rift or NFS Carbon.

August 26, 2008

Good taste.

Forza Horizon 2

GTA V.

Forza Horizon 3

You faggots are all wrong.

I need insight into FlatOut 4.

Are you implying there was one?

Stay buttblasted because racing games are actually challenging.

Burnout 3: Takedown

GOAT, I actually miss DJ Stryker

Dirt Rally
December 7 2015

1995

it wasn't good though

Nfs pro street

Why has the racing game market gone to shit? I miss when Need for Speed was a household name.

>it wasn't good though

You're right it wasn't good it was great. It was the best Codies rally racing game since Colin McRae Rally 2005.

it was shit
wonky physics and literally half the road distance as the first Colin McRae Rally game

DiRT Rally is the last driving game the world is gonna need

Because the only stuff making money in the 00s was Gran Turismo and other sim/simcade shit because retards would rather jack off to driving virtual real world cars than actually racing.

By the same token, arcade racing got pretty stale, between Burnout just increasing numbers and NFS just recycling 90's games and kart racing just devolving into "get OP powerup = win". There were a few fun standouts, between Motorstorm and Blur and Stuntman and Flatout, but those games mostly languished.

Forza Horizon 2 and 3 are excellent.

Of all the genres racing and puzzle are the ones that are impossible to totally fuck up.

Not too long ago OP, not too long ago.

fuck yeah whiplash

best
90s arcade racer?
2000s arcade racer?
2010s arcade racer?

>The Real Understeer Simulatorâ„¢

The answer is - and will forever remain - 1998.

Motorstorm was so good part of japan had to be destroyed to stop it from being too awesome.

I wish they could sell it again so badly

Hyped for DiRT 4

Here's hoping the Gymkhana bullshit doesn't make a return

mfw no one on Sup Forums like sim racing

ill stick to /ovg/ i guess

>not 1999

I loved forza6 just to get a car and drive, sometimes just eto enjoy the tracks

Unfortunately the pc version feels too horrible and incomplete

Sim racing is for turbo autism - Sup Forums just has regular autism.

High stakes/road challenge can get fucked.

no one wants to play turnleft 2003, faggot

Forza Horizon 3 was good.

gt4 had nice graphics but absolute garbage physics compared to gt3

>High stakes/road challenge can get fucked.

Lego Racers was the last best racing game.

Burnout 3

hey man, i like cars irl and vidya. can't help it.

i dont play turnleft 03

I still replay Paradise City because I just like to cruise in a sunset with some custom music

I'd do it IRL but I want to zone out and that could mean dying and it's not worth it

I think thats when PD introduced those shitty input filters, not only they were speed but grip sensitive.
As a result GT4 could have great physics but thanks to those filters it was driving like on rails.

Also, TOCA WTC, fucking awesome hardcore physics for the time, visuals and sound, very detailed and dynamic car damage, weather and adjustable day/night time, racing that had everything, it was intense hardcore, had functional pitstops and career mode which kept you on the edge counting points in the end.
Best V8 sim ever, I still remember racing Bathurst during the night and storm in lincoln and finishing race on 3 position with my tire blown and lights busted.

I know that feel user.
Whenever the rare racing game thread pops up, retards spam it with NFS and other shit made for 10 year olds.

I remember playing that City Stage with legit squre turns, in minis for TOCA 2

I really liked the first V Rally and Colin McRae, especially the cheats for Colin McRae

>really like simcade racers like Gran Turismo ever since GT2 and 4
>move on to Forza 4 and 6
>still suck ass
>have played over 75 races multiplayer in Forza 6 and won 0
>can beat the AI on the best difficulty no assists but still awful against players
>can't go back to arcade racing games because the driving is too simple

youtu.be/-w2TWNM0-nw

too bad this one wasn't an amazing game
anyone play that Test Drive game with that song by Fear Factory?

Colin 2.0 was awesome game and those cheats were fun, its the only racing game I can think off that did arcade and cheats right.
Fucking fireball cheat was as fun as it was infuriating.

>can't go back to arcade racing games because the driving is too simple
Playing the wrong arcade racers then.

fucking love Destruction Derby 1 - RAW
never did figure out how to get 500pts at the start of a race, though
I managed to randomly do it twice and wondered why

OutRun? there's still that SP version in arcades, with the moving cars

Come on even ken block can do it.

>can't go back to arcade racing games because the driving is too simple
See user, you just approaching it wrong.
RRT4 despite its arcadey physics is awesome fun if you get a hang of it, RRV as well RR6 was meh and RR7 had physics more like it was wipeout on rails
Wipeout and rollcage all have physics somewhat arcadey but its great fun and allow for insane stuff and since the crafts are imaginary and might as well handle like that.
Outrun its lighthearted fun.
DDR and Demolition Racer all ok and fun.
Midnight Club LA has great physics even if arcade its faster than Burnout games ever were.

Whats not fun are games like DIRT 3 and GRID or driveclub that present themselves as realistic games except physics itself is meh at best and doesnt fit general mood of the game.
RR6 was average and RR 7 unenjoyable because of shitty physics
When you say arcade is too simple you actually mean those games with shitty arcade physics.

DEAD I AM THE ONE
EXTERMINATING SON

>July 25, 2003

your screenshot doesn't include the 25th

RAW hasn't got shit on DD2.

HEY HEY YOU YOU
anyone hyped?
twitter.com/3fieldsent/status/652123571645493248?lang=en
when the fuck is it coming?

what happened to The 90's Arcade Racer?

also go check out Drift Stage

dirt 3 and grid 1 are great fun, and this is coming from someone who likes every kind of racing game, im subbed to iracing like a retard.

that said, dirt 4 is looking to be really fucking great, with a physics model for any kind of racing fan. good shit.

they were all different games despite being of the same series
sure, the main thing was "you drive and crash other cars" but they all played very differently
2 was crazy

>Midnight Club LA has great physics
That's odd because I got MCLA and dropped it literally one minute after being dropped into the open world because of how fucking awful the driving and camera were. And this was right after playing MC2 and MC3 Remix.

anyone ever play this?

>Doing a widescreen hack on a game that wasn't designed for it
>Looks like dogshit
>Captures it anyway

People who emulate or the most subhuman trash

>The 90's Arcade Racer?

>Dev claimed its basically done
>Suddenly, Nicalis gets involved
>game seems ot flip flop from platform to platform with nobody knowing what the fuck is going on
>Dev makes another game
>No updates in 2 years

Par for the course for Nicalis.

Loeb would do it better.

Getting platinum in every event was miserable. Same with doing all the missions in Battersea. What a fucking waste of time that was

Fast RMX

>awful the driving and camera
All you had to do was change camera to classic or static or cockpit or hood form action.
But yeah, action cam was too floaty and cam on bikes is really retarded, why they fuck do you make camera stiff on a bike in a game where you have to lean right and left constantly as you swerve trough the traffic.

Alright fuck you give me 20 minutes and i'll make a new webm just for you user, just for you.

Thanks, man.

It turned into modern Need For Speed where the FOV would keep changing depending if you were idle or ramping up in speed. When games pull stupid shit like this, I can no longer play them because it is impossible to judge your turns because the camera is one big deception. I went through every camera possible and didn't like any of them, not to mention the actual cars themselves feel heavier as the series go on. MC3 is the last one where you can tell it got heavier than MC2 but still felt tolerable. MC2 is just arcade driving bliss, maximum responsiveness and the 60 fps fluidity for the PC version.

>there will never be another Burnout game

Thanks EA

Static cam was static regardless of what you doing and with speed in game hood cam is the only drivable in later stages of the game anyway.

As to the physics I thought it was spot on, wasnt too arcadey and werent too realistic, as far as arcades go it hit the spot for me.
I hate it when cars behave like they no longer cars just because its arcade.

Also, probably the only game that did handbrake right.

They're taking their sweet time with Drift Stage. I remember playing the alpha early when the dev shilled on Sup Forums.

You'll always be in my heart

I love GT4 for the amount of cars, tracks etc but fucking hell the understeer was disgusting and the handling in general felt like shit.

I've got Gran Turismo PSP which I think uses GT6's physics and it feels fantastic.

>PD introduced those shitty input filters
Basically what you're talking about is TCS and ASM. You can generally unfuck GT4 but manually turning TCS and ASM back down to 0 or 1. Of course ultimately GT4's physics is still grippier than GT3 so you can't change that, these settings just take away the extremely frustrating understeer that make no sense. The only problem left over is not being able to adjust TCS and ASM for license test cars, so you have to lube up your asshole for that.

That pay-to-win, laggy piece of shit doesn't deserve a place in anyone's hearts.

RIP, you were horrible but free.

>didn't know accounts were apparently clientside
>have hard drive failure before end of the world
>reinstall in time for the fireworks
>account is gone

Diddy Kong Racing was the last and only good racing game ever.

Shame it has fuck all tracks
>DUDE COWABUNGA RADICAL MAN

Codemasters are British why the fuck did they get that awful man voicing the games, and why did they make them so Americany and arcadey? Is it because rallying is unknown in the US?

what game

I recently realised that despite the fact the vast majority of my favourite games of all time being either strategy games or rpg's, I like way more racing games than I do ones from either of those genres in general.
>Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast
>Burnout 3: Takedown + Paradise
>Forza Horizon 3
>Ridge Racer Type 4 + V
>Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition
>Motorstorm: Pacific Rift + Apocalypse
>Wipeout HD + 3: Special Edition
>Hydro Thunder + Hurricane
>Sonic & Sega All-Star Racing: Transformed
>Mario Kart 8
>Gran Turismo 4
>Dirt 3 + Rally
>Driver: San Francisco
>Crazy Taxi 1 + 3
>God only fucking knows how many Sega/Namco arcade cabs from the 90s and early 00s that I can't remember the name of by now

What makes this genre so innately appealing? I feel like I could never grow tired of it, despite getting burned out on so many others and needing to take breaks.

A lot of Americans got into rally because of Ken Block memery. It's a shame, but it makes sense that they would be pandered to.

I just a new Initial D Arcade Stage ported on PS4.
Is that too much to ask for Sega?

Loved Sledstorm 2, I played the shit out of it back in the day.

Makes me want to get my PS2 out and play it, it doesn't emulate well.

Not exactly, because you can adjust car steering with TCS and ASM but those filters are still here and acting as far as I remember.
But I admit I might be wrong here

That said I didnt played with TCS and ASM simply because I would eventually tuned every car to handle the same whether it was Escudo or TVR but I never thought of disabling them thinking if devs made those systems its part of simulation or something.

Desire for Acceleration

Probably makes loads of money now even though he's a shit rally driver

It really fucking hurts to know it's probably been killed by their retarded incompetence.

What was the other game the dev did though?

This. Surprised they haven't made another one. Shit was way better than Mario kart.

speedelixir.com/

Maybe this will be released and will be good.

> Is it because rallying is unknown in the US?

Basically.

It also reminds me why there is such an extreme gnashing of teeth at Wreckfest on its forums. The devs are building the game not too unlike flatout 1 but very much inspired by finnish folk racing whereas the community is generally more in favour of UK banger racing style events (which at a fundamental level is what destruction derby 1,2 and raw are inspired by). The distinction in this case is subtle. Folk racing is essentially track racing that allow contact, banger racing is a pile up that happens to be set on a track.

Need for speed III. The mordern patch means it runs flawlessly on modern windows.

Type 4 had a groovy ass soundtrack

>Is it because rallying is unknown in the US?

Which is why they shouldn't cater to us. We're terrible at it anyway.

Unrelated but is it worth watching the other Initial D series after 1 or are they shit?

This is a long shot, but has anyone here played Ridge Racer DS? I honestly believe it is one of the hardest racing games out there, I'm not joking. The game isn't made by Namco, some shitty D list Nintendo studio involving Iwata "remade" Ridge Racer tracks and threw in their own, plus fucked up the entire Ridge Racer formula with the most insane rubber banding ever known to man. There are like no guides on the internet for it and very little discussion about how hard this game is. It is a port of Ridge Racer 64 but I somehow believe they made it even harder. I actually had to dump my NDS save to continue playing on an emulator because I needed a resolution boost and actual controller to beat it. I can safely say this is one of the worst racing games I've ever played.

The American voice actor was horrible

The British manager lady was a qt though

Aussie mechanic was pure bro-tier
