I think it looks decent, but probably won't be as good as the first two until after the expansions because only 3 factions sucks and they'll probably end up changing things a bit. 2 was a lot better than 1 though, so shifting away from that tactical squad based stuff is a horrible idea. The maps are going to be way less interesting and dynamic without all the cover and shit.

As someone who first started playing DoW1 two years ago, that's exactly right. WC's campaign is thematically glorious but a total shitshow in execution. DC is horrifically unbalanced in favor of melee and the game-wide move-while-shooting nerf bugged the shit out of me. I literally looked up the latter to see what the fuck was going on and found out about that dumbfuckery. SS, on the other hand, apparently had a horrendous release and was a broken, bug-filled mess for well over a year before patches began to fix it. But I never experienced that time. What I played was a better-rounded game than DC with more factions, and I enjoyed it far more than DC long before I even began installing mods.

And with that said, DoW:UA > all other DoWs.

I still play Soulstorm online regularly, DoW2 was a huge disappointment despite me looking forward to tyranids for fucking ever, the game was horribly dumbed down with a fraction of the depth or complexity of DoW1, I never touched Last Stand as I dont care for that vs AI garbage, its very unlikely I will play DoW3, I was hoping for a return to form but its clear Relic is still chasing that casual player tail.

Looks like they gave this game the Starcraft 2 treatment. What a horrible art direction.

There's more to Eldar than just that which makes them awful. Even without it, FoF lets them reposition a squad faster. If you ever try to engage in melee in DC, any halfway experienced player just walks the target squad away and the shootier side will win. You either call back your melee or they walk into massed fire. It only really helps to chase off a point temporarily or if you can catch someone off guard (start a fight somewhere, jump some dudes on the other side of the map with Assaults)

Even though Fire Warriors are one of the few squads slow enough in the game to get hit by melee when trying to retreat, it's still a losing proposition for something like Berserkers to try and engage them whilst another squad tears them to shreds.
