New Sonic Mania footage everyone:
>flame shield literally burns the wooden spike bridges
fucking neato
ntsc-artifact free waterfalls confirmed canon
I'm kind of glad they kept the music the same between each act. I like this GHZ theme more than any other I've heard before.
I am at the highest level of excitement. This just feels like the real deal.
NEW ZONES REVEALED WHEN
W
H
E
N
RELEASE DATE WHEN
love all of it except 1:46. that looked fucky.
>tails' AI is still shit
just like the good old days
16BIT at 60FPS is really weird .
sauce
Likely revealed at SXSW next week
Come on man, just try a little bit. Its a well-known scene, you can find it by just googling "Red Hat Porn".
Here's a different act 2 run from Polygon
That's what happens when idiots spoonfeed newfags.
Hmmm wonder if I should go to the panel or if it's going to be an autistic shitfest.
The bridge is right next to running water. It should be too wet to burn.
what are the new zones?
>hate newfags
>hate people who cater to them
What can you do?
Oh boy, autism already showing up in a sonic thread
>Tails eats shit the first moment you have to jump over pit.
Good times.
Oh come on, it's a video game.
Between the floating midair Rings or Sonic's quills not getting wet and slowing him down, surely you can suspend your disbelief or rationalize that the waterfall is far enough away for this.
How the hell did Sonic got back up after burning the bridge down at 1:18?
There are only three zones. If you want more be sure to buy this "game" so they can have the funds to make Sonic Mania Episode 2.
or that he's a talking hedgehog that travels at supersonic speed
Don't get mad because some shitter can't control his dick and derails a potentially good thread.
I hope they don't show off any more. I want this shit to be fresh the first time I play it
He was running on the little flames, they'll probably fix it in due time, at least they better.
...
I'll never stop posting this in every single Mania thread
>They're even trying to keep the music hidden so people can listen to it the first time they play the game
Neat
Looks like shit. Can't believe genesis fags touted this kind of garbage as their killer apps for their system back in the day. I suppose the only real improvement is the music doesn't sound like farts put through a synthesizer this time. Sad you all eat up this substandard garbage even in this day and age, shit wouldn't even be acceptable on phones.
>not more Studiopolis footage
>not more Mirage Saloon footage
>not any other returning or new zone
fucking sega
It's literally the same song from Sonic 1 just with different instrumentation. Not that there's anything wrong with that, Green Hill is pretty god-tier.
I can suspend disbelief. But I'm not impressed by simple "fire burns wood" mechanics. In order to be "fucking neato", they need to go an extra step. How neato would it be if only dry wood burned, while wet wood didn't? That would impress me.
Also, I hate that zipline shit. Adds literally nothing to the levels, and kills good level design.
Go to it, user.
Contrarian.
wasn't the bridge above the water fall, why would it be wet
Whats the likelihood of Mania being released after the SXSW panel?
Because flowing water splashes. Plus condensation.
did the bubble shield always bounce off of angles like that?
Why did I think this was coming out in march? when did it change to may? wtf
i think the top part would be dry enough for the fire to start up. even if the bottom is too damp to burn well, the fact the rope is likely to burn as well to cause it to fall makes me think how it was showed in the video is fine.
That'd be hype but I think it's going to be a bit more planned than that.
I'd agree, except that that's mechanically confusing to the player. They try to burn a wet one, "Oh, then NONE of them burn." It doesn't look like there's any visual cue about which ones can and can't be burned, to boot.
Ziplines are a shit, thoughm
I'd say about 0.01%. Now Mania being released within a month after the panel I could believe to be possible
No idea, user, they've been saying "Spring 2017" since the very beginning so maybe you thought the very beginning of Spring?
I've been assuming May for the longest time.
no, always vertically
You mean like "And it's available right now?"
Probably very very little. I could see them throwing up the price and the Steam page, though.
Plus, I'd be pissed if I didn't get my Collector's Edition within the release days
100%
It's definitely not being released before it.
I guess. I'm no fire expert.
They probably picked Green Hill 2 to reassure people that the remixed zones wouldn't be carbon copies. Obviously Green Hill 1 had mostly new level design but there were still retards dumb enough to parrot the "hurf durf remix zones aren't new" meme, so then they trot out Green Hill 2 which not only shows off the act transitions but also gives everyone completely brand new level design.
Just so you know May 31st is a placeholder date, the game doesn't have an official release date yet
>Green Hill Zone
oh
its that level
again
zZZzzzz
wake me when sega releases an actual new sonic game, not this asset flip garbage
It's now occurred to me that we are actually STILL in Winter right now. And that Spring technically ends in late June.
>It doesn't look like there's any visual cue about which ones can and can't be burned
That's why you make a visual cue.
Come on, man. Did I really need to say that? The design is simple. Make some wood appear dry, and other wood appear damp.
If the player doesn't catch on right away, then that's fine, it'll be something nice to discover when they play around more in the level.
That's a big reason a surprise release seems unlikely. I think the CE is going to be available at the same time.
Lol, throwback to the Saturn launch.
Agree that the ziplines are just plain dumb. Luckily it seems like they either keep you moving forward or can be skipped (you could jump over the one in the middle of the video that kills the flow of the stage because it's so slow).
People are still going to say it just because it's Green Hill Zone still. I know they don't want to spoil too much but they really need to show off one more returning zone to how different it can really be.
>the bubble shield was buffed to hell and back
>the fire and electric shields work the exact same as before
I never knew that Sonic games only ran at 30fps.
so it's not spring, it's summer.
Ziplines are more mechanically interesting than having yet another slope. Downward zips help you build momentum, upward zips require momentum to get through, both can be jumped off early if the player wants to explore.
Now, if it's Advance-style "let's put a metric fuckton of ziplines above bottomless pits and call it a level" then it'd be something different, but it looks like in Mania they're just going to be a GHZ2-exclusive gimmick and used relatively sparingly.
No, it's Spring, we just don't know when in Spring.
Level aesthetic reminds me of Collision Chaos from Sonic CD.
filename
Everything about this sounds and looks excellent.
>stopping right before the boss
I just want to see Eggman already, please Sega.
It's snowing here in NYC, so I guess it really is still winter
Current GHZ act 2 has a lot of classic GHZ act 3 tho.
The game could be released June 20 and it would still technically be Spring 2017 because the solstice isn't until the 21st.
>Ziplines are more mechanically interesting than having yet another slope.
I also like being taken to my destination without having to input anything.
will there be new special stages?
the blue spheres, half pipe rings, and rotating block pinball thing were some of my favorite parts of sonic games.
>Sonic fans create an amazing 2D Sonic game with Sonic Mania, complete with authentic sounds, graphics and tight gameplay
>Metroid fans create an ugly piece of shit 2D Metroid game that sounds like shit and looks like shit
Really makes you think, doesn't it?
Nintendo should at least do what Sega is doing. really shows how shit Nintendo is.
Yeah, because holding right to go down a slope is amazing player input.
I thought they ran at 60 too but I was confusing FPS with Hz.
On the other hand, GameInformer revealed a screen and concept art of Studiopolis act 1 boss
Still better than what might as well be a cutscene.
Concept art.
>Shitting on AM2R to try and make Mania look better
No need for that user, both games are wonderful
We don't know yet, they teased Blue Spheres recently but Taxman said we still haven't seen the Special Stages also so maybe they're a Bonus Stage or some shit. They at the very least must be from Mania based on Sonic's color palette.
forums.sonicretro.org
Project Sonic 2017 is going to be worse than this game, soak it in while you can.
fug. would love it if we got all of them and even an entirely new kind of special stage.
Just like when companies say they'll release their game in "Summer" only for the date to be like the very end of September!
shitposting and lying to others is bannable
Oh, so the Eggrobo in the Mirage Saloon´s pictures wasn´t there as a nostalgia throwback
>need momentum to clear the upward zips
>still need to pay attention to what's ahead of you for when you clear them
>can cancel them early by jumping off
I know Dimps touched you in your no-no parts, but that doesn't mean Mania will be as bad.
Looks great. Loving the new backgrounds.
I remember Taxman saying that Mania Green Hill was gonna be the most tame of the Mania classic zones, and that's pretty exciting.
Love to know the other zones, new or classic.
the new line of Egg Bosses are called Hard Boiled Heavies
glad Egg Robos are getting the spare spotlight this time around
Notice that all of the "hard boiled heavies" (as they are called) are different from the Eggrobo on Mirage Saloon, so we might have multiple versions of them.
They said in the commentary video that the Heavies came in different varieties.
>need momentum to clear the upward zips
So it's just like an upwards slope.
>still need to pay attention to what's ahead of you for when you clear them
This isn't special, you're already doing this.
>can cancel them early by jumping off
Wow, how game-changing.
So you agree it's no different from just having a slope, glad we have an understanding.
We don't know anything yet. The fire shield can now burn wooden bridges. Don't come to conclusions so soon.
Your argument was that ziplines were better (or "more mechanically interesting") than slopes.
>that background
I though it was underground at first.
>blue spheres in widescreen.
You know, sega should allow them to make a blue spheres standalone game:
>all original 14 stages.
>you can use the original codes for more stages
>you can make your own stages and share them with your friends
>leaderboards for all stages to see whos the fastest.
That's because it IS the real deal. Fucking hell it looks so good.
Here goes my autism:
- 9-bit sfx sampled from the original games MIXED with 16-bits music
- light-blue Sonic feels childish / hack
- same music between acts
- convoluted maps and weird flow
- water waves feels wrong (not using the line interrupt flickering effect)
Because of all these failures I don't think I will be able to enjoy Sonic Mania. I will give it a try though.
Tee Lopes said on Twitter that each act will have it's own music remix like 3 & Knuckles.
