Convince me to keep playing IV

Just got Rydia back

He jumps good.

I got to the golbez fight after the demon baby doll and just gave up

He BTFO Exdeath in Dissidia with a pretty good one liner.

>Kain
>the third best Final Fantasy party member

Regardless of how people rank him I will say Dragoon is the best class.

Say I want to revisit FFIV right now... whats a good version to play?

I was gonna load up a snes rom and have a go, but if anyone has any better ideas...

PSP

This is true.

YO WHENS DISSIDIA COMING OUT

GBA or DS, depends if you want content or difficulty (hear grinding).
I would recommend PSP if the assets weren't godawful.

Friendly reminder

DS>GBA>Steam>SNES>PSP

treacherous kisama

I don't think he even knows whose side he's on.

>Freyaposting already

This is a real Dragoon thread. Not one for rats.

This wouldn't even be a problem if he didn't have a tendency to get captured and mind-controlled.

I'm enjoying the game so far, I have to climb the tower of zot to trade the crystal for Rosa

FUCKING THIS! RATFAGS GTFO!

PSP if you want 2D or DS/Steam if want to play in 3D

Kain just goes with whoever's gonna give him the best chance at fugging Cecils gf.

Once he realized it wasn't happening ever, he gave up and just decided to join Cecil.

>real Dragoon
I'm sorry, I didn't realise it was exclusively for traitors and easily manipulated bitches. Never mind.

If you can't cuck him, join him, eh?

So if Kain is the third best, who is second and first?

PSP is more faithful to the original, but the original is EXTREMELY easy to (IMO), the point of boredom.

The 3D version of the game has minor character customization (you augment your character) and the bosses are hard enough for you to require usage of those mechanics (the entire game has been rebalanced to be overall more threatening) and the game has some nice presentation that helps give flavor to the characters, for example I really enjoy the voice performances of english Cecil, Golbez, and Kain. At the same time, like that prior user said, if you don't want to use the additional mechanics as you play the game it'll just result in grinding when you hit a boss that you can braindead roll through.

Basically, the 2D version is better if you are a stickler for authenticity or think the difficulty rebalance will harm your enjoyment. The 3D version of the game has made the bosses legitimate challenges that require preperation and has a flashier presentation.

Is Kain a virgin?

The answer is a clear, resounding yes.

Probably, else he would have moved on.

If you aren't enjoying it by that point you probably won't like the rest.

Personally I loved it, IV, V and VII are my favs.

Honestly, what did Kain even see on Rosa? She's easily one of the most boring and bland FF females ever. She barely has something resembling a personality, heck, pretty much all her personality is "I love Cecil".

T R A I T O R

GBA > SNES > the rest

My favourites are IV, VI, VIII, but I liked them all, including I, II, X, XII and XIII.

Maybe she is a great cook ?

Kain dindu nuffin. It was all Golbez fault.

b-b-b-but he was mind controlled!

Golbez dindu nothing. It was all Zemus/Zeromus' fault.

He has the manliest voice.

Why is FFIV so well loved and iconic in Japan but barely given any attention in the West?

>so butthurt about the woman choosing Cecil that he goes Majin Vegeta on them
>he gets BTFO
>they tell him to stick around anyway so he can listen to the woman's moans every night as Cecil fucks her
>o-okay I gues...

>this beta loser is supposed to be the third best party member

I love the 3DS version as a masochist, but some of the changes are honestly stupid, and sort of hits a boiling point around the moon, where they changed the scripting on some of the enemies so they essentially can wipe out your party in the first turn, as opposed to in the older versions of games where they weren't allowed to use certain abilities unless there was only one of them left. Basically that is why those mage encounters are usually game overs, since the entire group can just instantly start using -ga spells that hit your entire party for 90% of their hp even at a very high level, and there are 3 of them

So while I still like the 3DS version and for the most part its not too bad, some of it isn't so much as hard as retarded and fake difficulty, there is a reason these scripts were in place to begin with.

I honestly think it was like a Majin Vegeta thing, he's a good guy but this one factor in life grates at him so much he basically willingly gives himself Golbez/Zemus' mind control even though the better part of him is fighting it.

Kain was better on Dissidia 012. He was truly a bro there.

Putting Rosa in the middle always ruins everything. Kain deserves so much better.

She's supportive to Cecil during his various emotional crisis', and that's something that Kain definitely needs.

She's doesn't have much going on and it's her biggest flaw, but from the perspective of the two main characters of the game she's something worth fighting over. It works on a simple level, and that's all FFIV really shoots for.

They just needed her to add drama. She adds nothing else to the story other than giving Kain and Cecil a reason to have conflict and Kain a reason to have a weakness so he could more easily be manipulated.

Well the game didn't get a PAL release until the PS1 version, but I doubt that'd affect it that much.

>and that's something that Kain definitely needs.
Like Tifa did in Dissidia storyline.

Yeah, i definitely agree about some of the stuff on the moon being retarded. I just think that overall the game is benefitted more than it is hurt from the rebalancing. The Four Fiends actually having a sense of threat, for example, is a much bigger deal to me than having some random trash make you sweat a lot more than you should.

She's hot as fuck.

>Like Tifa did in Dissidia storyline.
What happened? I need to play those games.

Rydia is better. Rydia actually has a personality too.

Basically, they were losing the war but there was a way for some of them to survive for the next cycle sno Kain went around killing all the survivors which was the fix and he did it because of his feelings of guilt so he thought himself perfect to be the scapegoat. Everyone else thought he became a traitor except Tifa who kept believing in him and saying Kain had a good reason to do that because she knew Kain was not an evil cunt.

I don't much care for Freyaposters, but Freya herself is cool as hell and probably my favorite dragoon in the franchise up there with Ricard. Only IX could make a jumping rat actually something remarkable.

Galuf is obviously in first

He knew her when she was about 10 and helped wreck her village. Probably would've been awkward.

Gameplay is the most important of a video game, and DS wins out there.

Both gods were endlessly at war with one another, all of the Final Fantasy characters were being endlessly revived and sent to fight one another and the cycle had repeated so many times that they had begun to lose their minds and memories.

Kain stepped up and broke the cycle by going around killing everyone. He knew he'd be seen as evil for doing so and played the part, but ultimately him and a few other characters (Laguna, Lightning, Tifa, Vaan, Yuna) sacrificed themselves at the end to break the cycle and ensure that the next would be the end of the eternal war.

Edge is the true Rydis ship anyway.

Maybe someday Edge will get to tap that.

I don't know about you guys, but I fucking love Golbez's theme.

Golbez and the Four Fiends have the best music in the game

Who are the first two?

I'm not very well versed in other early JRPGs but the story, characters and graphics of IV were lightyears ahead of the earlier games due to transition to Super Nintendo ES. I think the 'first time' effect had lot to do with it. Rubicante with his whole honourable enemy shtick made a lasting impression on me because that was the first time I encountered it in such measure.

But can he FLY?

Pretty much this. FFIV practically set the standards for modern JRPG despite how archaic and basic it may seem nowadays.

Everything about FFIV, from the plot, to the character archetypes, to the music just reeked Star Wars. And that's why I love it.

>spoiler

Fuck, I completely forgot about him.

One of the first SUFAMI rpg games.
Not the first though.
That honor supposedly goes to Gadoreen/GD Leen, and boy what a mess that was.
Title Screen music is pretty addictive though, or maybe I'm just a sick fuck.

There were other RPGs with more depth, both gameplay and storywise, even on the NES and that era of computers, but the 16-bit GRAFIX probably caught the eye of many a jap schoolchild. Plus the idiots still think Famitsu is "reputable", and naturally they came all over it.

it was a technical showcase for a new system, had a simple but enjoyable plot with some memorable characters, and the game was so easy that basically anyone could faceroll through it.

And don't let anyone tell you that the release of Final Fantasy II wasn't a pretty big deal in america. It wasn't the absolute showstopper blockbuster that Final Fantasy 6 or Chrono Trigger were, but that's because FFIV laid the groundwork. Japan had a lot more games for FF to get fans from before FFIV knocked the doors down, whereas that came later in the series for NA.

>There were other RPGs with more depth, both gameplay and storywise
Sounds interesting, were any of them released outside Japan? I already know about the western FF/eastern DQ schism.
