I'm tired of Nintendo's artificial scarcity scheme! It's not even Christmas time, just let people be able to buy a Switch! They're purposely under stocking the item to make it seem more exclusive and rare than it is. Just like the NES classic. And no, I'll never pay a scalper

If it's so bad, then why do you want it?

Nice numbers btw.

>reading comprehension

>overstocking a console on launch day
Guess why this is a bad idea.

They cant predict how well its gonna sell til it does. And it sold well. Theres still stock in the uk

I really don't care, I'm waiting to see if the next batch fixes the hardware problems to buy one

I went to gamestop to buy a game and they had fucking stacks of them. Is this just a meme?

the console alone is already pretty bad that I would just buy their old handheld but I also have a PC which makes this an easy choice

I don't get why people buy from scalpters lol

Where are you tho? Some locations sold out entirely, some didn't.

those were empty boxes

I was too busy mirin those digits.

I really don't understand why Nintendo do this. I was actually considering getting a Link Amiibo for BOTW but surprise surprise, they were all sold out and being sold by scalpers for like £30-40. How does Nintendo benefit from this exactly?

did you miss in school when supply and demand was discussed my man?

no, but you must have
restricting supply is useless for monopolistically competitive firms like nintendo

Supply and demand isn't really in effect when they are the sole producer of the item. If they don't meet demand, they lose out to re sellers at zero benefit to themselves. They also create negative press. There's literally no benefit.

It got sold either way, that's all they care about

...

Can i have repeating digits too?

Didn't they mfg like 2 million? You do realize that's a lot of something to produce. It's not magic. Let's say it costed them 50 bucks a pop to make which is being stupid since I'm sure it costed them much more. That's 100 million for the budget. Hmmm. That's a fuckton of monies.

So you see there are physical limitations of mfg something and financial concerns of an unknown. Not to mention logistics of storing and getting the shit moved around and finally to the shelf.

2million units on shelves doesn't seem like artificial scarcity to me. Seems like a fair amount of anything to be released.

>It doesn't exist because I say so!

>Supply and demand isn't really in effect when they are the sole producer of the item.
at least write something that makes sense when you try to look cool with your neet wisdom

he's right tho

It doesn't benefit them at all, they just want to be able to say "haha look at us! Our stuff is selling like crazy because everyone loves us! Take that Sony and Microsoft!"

That's all Nintendo is, a company chock full of gimmicks

>releases limited amount of consoles thinking no one really wants one or some fuck all reason
>"rofl wow we didn't expect this great of response amazing!"
Every fucking time Nintendo.

>2 million shipped for march
>same number as PS4
people will keep spouting this meme though

Switch doesn't have any gimmicks though

I give up can't argue with monkeys that dropped out of school

I don't get why they would do this. As in, I don't think they are doing this. They probably just suck at estimating the demand there is, "artificial scarcity" would not improve the sales or anything, if you want to get a switch you're pissed if you can't and potentially don't buy it once it's available, if you don't want a switch you're not going to be swayed by the fact that it's scarce and exclusive or whatever. It's a 300 bucks piece of plastic, not a status symbol

>releasing the WiiU, with enough supply, only sells a little over 10 million over its entire lifespan.
>expecting companies to just make tons when they don't know if the console will actually sell or not.

Remember they also don't make that many cause they have to leave room to be able to make bundles, if you have overstock, then people will just ignore the vanilla version more or you will be forced to sell it at a loss.

Every nintendo console has been a gimmick console since the Wii

Wii
> "Muh Motion Controls!"

Wii U
> "Muh controller has a screen!"

Switch
>"Muh Zelda on the go"

He is right though. Nintendo msrp is 300 dollars per console if they 1 or a billion. The scalpers benefit from supply and demand not Nintendo.

Still I don't understand why you guys think 2 million units is Nintendo trying to create artificial scarcity. That's a fton of consoles. If you were CEO what exact amount would you supply to the world? Don't forget you have a budget to work with, and you have no idea the reception it will get, and where do you store them until they make it to shelves, etc etc.

Screw Nintendo, their consoles are just Zelda + Smash Bros machines anyway

Doesn't help they've pretty much killed off the Metroid series

No one's buying the switch still a few at my local walmart no one wants.

>It exists because I say so!

>They probably just suck at estimating the demand there is
They really don't, people here just scream artificial scarcity when Nintendo doesn't oversaturate and immediately ship 10 million units or copies of a game like western AAA publishers.

They did that with the Wii U and had to recall millions of consoles and slash forecasts,.

Name one(1) company that produces the switch that isn't nintendo ill wait

It's optional this time around. Don't like handhelds? Keep it in the dock. Don't like motion controls? Don't use them. Simple as that. You basically get two Nintendo consoles for the price of one from now on.

It is not artificial scarcity, Nintendo is just a very conservative company. They manufacturer enough supply to cover an amount of pre-orders plus a bit extra, because they don't ever want a repeat of the Virtual Boy situation, where they were stuck with mountains of unsold units.

>because they don't ever want a repeat of the Virtual Boy situation, where they were stuck with mountains of unsold units.
Or the Wii U situation, which also left them with tons of unsold consoles after launch they had to recall.

Wii U was more because they had one SKU which didn't sell whatsoever.

Why do they recall them? Stores purchase them and then sell.

The gimmick isn't the problem, per se. It's that Nintendo forces developers to use the gimmick to make a licensed game. EVERY wii game had to use the motion controls in some way. EVERY DS game had to use the touchpad. EVERY wiiu game must use the gay tablet thingy. EVERY Switch game, now, has to be able to gimp itself for mobile mode.

Wii U undersold because it's just what the Wii should've been in the first place, and the casual market that bought the Wii in droves didn't even know the Wii U was a new console. Lightning rarely strikes twice.

Because they are taking up shelf space that could go to something else that might actually sell, so stores sent unsold Wii Us back to Nintendo.

Because they weren't selling and take up shelf space that could be filled with something that would sell, so the stores sent them back to Nintendo.

That's bad for everyone involved. Nintendo sells fewer consoles and that retailer might be less likely to stock their stuff in the future or may get less or it as a result.

Same thing happened to Destiny, lots of unsold copies were sent back to Activision and it just looked bad for them and the game.

Nintendo botched the marketing, it had no games and they overestimated how appealing the tablet controller would be. The Wii however was exactly what it needed to be.

THIS

>EVERY Switch game, now, has to be able to utilize the basic functionality of the console

You do realize there's little difference between handheld and docked mode aside from the resolution, right? Why the fuck would they bother making games you couldn't play half the time? I didn't see anyone clamoring for Vita TV exclusive games, did you?

The Switch will not get the most wanted AAA games. Just watch

In major urban centers they're sold out. Rural areas are fine though.

Also for some reason, Nintendo shipped a bunch of them to third world countries, and now they're just gathering dust.

I think its obvious, it just doesn't have the power of PS4 or Xbone, and companies are too lazy to develop a version of the game for the weaker console unless it was selling bajillions, that said, this gen I really want to play nintendo games and lets see what 3rd parties release for it, im mostly interested in it for the portable mode so I don't mind IT not getting AAA titles from 3rd parties, as long as the switch is kind of like a 3DS and still gets good nintendo AAA games, I will be fine.

I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure retailers have to purchase their inventory. Now Nintendo may have a buy back kind of thing but most items sold in your favorite store are being sold by the retailer and not the mfg.

Nintendo has to buy the unsold stock back

>Understocked

Best launch ever in Spain UK and various other lands, if its understocked how did it beat PS4 sales in those areas?

Ok I didn't know that. Must be a leftover from the crash. Most inventory is on the retailer to sell.

It has only been a week. Give it a little more time to see if they ramp things up.

That's because people from US got desperate an imported Switches from Spain en masse

Still sold more and i just bought another copy of Zelda the Japanese version, so get rekt

yeah cause they're overpriced in third world countries, and most people in third world countries can't afford new consoles. There are still tons of Brazilians who never got new consoles after the PS2

Nyggers keep saying its over priced I work in a supermarket and we sell PS4 1TB for £329 just the console and switch for £279 so i dont understand this switch hate its a beautiful machine and to be honest they deserve some success and i hope they get it over a Netflix and interactive movie machne

Developers didn't have to use the Wii's motion controls or the DS/Wii U's touchscreen if they didn't want to. Also, the Switch plays like a normal console when you're using joycons + grip.

The Switch runs at 1080p 60fps for most games. Also, EA and Bethesda are supporting the Switch, and they didn't touch the Wii U.

It already has zelda dude lol

>EVERY Switch game, now, has to be able to gimp itself for mobile mode.
You're thinking of this the wrong way.

This is a hella-powerful replacement for the 3ds/vita that you play (slightly) better than PS3/360 scale shit whenever and wherever you are.

This user gets it, i've been waiting for a good nintendo handheld for a while now, glad I didn't pick up a 3DS after all

>The Switch runs at 1080p 60fps for most games. Also, EA and Bethesda are supporting the Switch, and they didn't touch the Wii U.

I hope so, I didnt really buy it for those, but if they do support it, then color me surprised
