You cannot use USB hubs in between.
Sony why? What's wrong with you?
You cannot use USB hubs in between.
Sony why? What's wrong with you?
Sorry, oh, what's that? Oh, how unforunate.
Just put a new SSD in my monster fucking gaming rig.
Don't act jealous!
>Just put a new SSD in my monster fucking gaming rig.
That's exactly what I'm going to do: replace the internal HDD with a SSD and use the HDD as external storage
But having only on of the two USB ports left to use is a bit...limited.
>1 for charging pads and phone shit
>1 for external HDD
What else do you really need? Even the pads don't need to be charged to the Ps4
I don't know about you user but my PS4 has a USB port on the back as well.
>I don't know about you user but my PS4 has a USB port on the back as well.
Only the PS4 HUEG features an USB port at the back.
>1 for charging pads
>He doesn't have the official charger.
Well I mean what else do you need a port for other than your external and for charging controllers? If you have a USB hub you can still use it to charge your shit by plugging it in to the port your external hdd isn't using.
This. It's a non-issue. What IS an issue that annoys me is that HDR gaming requires a direct hdmi connection from console to TV, meaning I can't just leave my PSVR hooked up since the box needs the hdmi signal to go through it. I find it strange because 4k doesn't require a direct connection, just HDR. So I find myself reaching behind my console to switch HDMI cables alot and it's inconvenient to say the least.
>Well I mean what else do you need a port for other than your external and for charging controllers
>keyboard
>mouse
>media remote
>USB thumb drive for storing saves and media files (you can't use "external storage" for that)
So I added a hard drive to my 7 port hub connected to my PS4 and Sony tells me
>nope, can't use that
So now I have to dangle another wire to the front of my PS4. That' looks awful on my TV rack.
>he need more than 1 pad
One for playing while one is charging.
Why not just charge it on your phone charger or something instead of wasting your money on that?
>wasting your money on that?
I'm not a poorfag, who has to use phone chargers with USB cables.
I can afford a controller charge stand, which uses the dedicated DS4 charging port.
It's convenient.
>I'm not a poorfag, who has to use phone chargers with USB cables
There's a difference between being a poorfag and being smart with your money. Why spend $20-$30 on a charging station when you probably have 2 mini usb phone chargers you never use lying around, that probably charges the controller fairly quickly, and you can use while you play if the controller dies? Seems more convenient to me tbqh
>keyboard/mouse
>on ps4
Ok?
>media remote
Whats wrong with your ps4 controller? A media remote will connect via bluetooth anyway, if you bought one with a proprietary dongle you're doing it wrong (buying one in the first place is doing it wrong imo but hey).
>USB thumb drive for storing saves and media files (you can't use "external storage" for that)
But a USB thumb drive is external storage. Do you need that thumb drive plugged in at all time anyway?
>So now I have to dangle another wire to the front of my PS4
You've already got a hub with multiple wires dangling from it. Plug your external into the unused port, stack it on top of you hub or vice versa. There's like no difference.
>PS4 Pro has 3 USB ports
>but just buy a slim XDDD PS4 Pro sucks xdddxdxdxdddd
>It's convenient.
It's far more convenient to use a charger than the PS4 usb ports.
How so? I bought a PSVR stand that also charges all my controllers and I still have to get up and walk over to it and seat the controllers then click them down into place. No more convenient than plugging it into a usb port on my laptop that's always nearby. Only difference is while it looks like on the charging ock, I can't play while I'm charging, whereas you can with a normal cable.
>while it looks nice***
USB 3.0 probably struggles to get enough power through peripherals, need a straight connection to system.
>connecting a usb 3.0 hub into a 2.0 port
full retard
PS4 has SS USB 3.0
there's a 3rd port in the back.
I got my HDD plugged in the back the controller wire and a keyboard plugged up front.
>keyboard/mouse
>on ps4
Something wrong with that?
>A media remote will connect via bluetooth anyway
Well mine uses an USB dongle, so much for that.
>buying one in the first place is doing it wrong
No, I simply use the one I already have.
>But a USB thumb drive is external storage.
You can't install games to the same drive you use for backups, understood?
Do you even own a PS4? Or are you just shitpissing?
I'm not going to buy another PS4 for another USB port, when the existing one works just fine.
>It's far more convenient to use a charger than the PS4 usb ports.
That's exactly what I'm doing, why did you reply?
>USB 3.0 probably struggles to get enough power through peripherals, need a straight connection to system.
The USB hub has its own power, the external hard drive has its own power too. Do you know tech, or are just talking out of you ass?
>there's a 3rd port in the back.
Not on my PS4.
>Old body PS4s
Oh I'm sorry I thought I was on the internet not talking to Cro-Magnon men via smoke signals.
Well, what else are you going to use those USB ports for? It's not like sony allows you to use mouse and keyboard.
>It's not like sony allows you to use mouse and keyboard.
That is plain wrong.
>Something wrong with that?
Other than the fact that no games support it natively? Well yeah. If you lack a computer and do all your web browsing through PS4, even then it's not much help to you, as evidenced by how fucking slow you're posting.
>Well mine uses an USB dongle, so much for that.
Stop using outdated useless technology? You don't need a "media remote" for your PS4 when your controller serves the purpose just fine.
>You can't install games to the same drive you use for backups, understood?
I never said that you could you fucking moron. Just that you don't need a fucking thumb drive plugged in at all times as if you're going to backup your saves every time you make progress in a game.
>Do you even own a PS4? Or are you just shitpissing?
I own not only a PS4 but an extensive living room full of consoles and other electronics. Even if a PS4 was the only piece of hardware I had besides my TV, this would NOT be a fucking issue. You have a hub plugged in, with lets say 7 cables hanging out of it. The fact that one of those cables has to be unplugged and then plugged back in a couple inches to the side triggers your autism? You still have the same amount of cables coming out of the front of your console no matter what.
Even with all the useless peripherals you listed you still haven't even taken up all the 7 slots in your hub, so what fucking difference does it make if you're using the unoccupied USB slot on your PS4? There's no justifying you complaining about this unless you have autism or severe OCD. Plenty of actual flaws with sony and the PS4 and this non-issue is what you choose to stir up shit about?
Are you some sort of retard?
Do you think USB ports have infinite bandwidth? That you can use an extention with 6 ports into 1 and expect every one of them will have the same data transfer of the original?
How STUPID can you be? jesus christ
>Other than the fact that no games support it natively?
Not him, but FF14 fully supports M&K AFAIK.
And plenty of games support keyboard for chat, like Warframe, as well as general usage for PS4 (like chat rooms)
>Do you think USB ports have infinite bandwidth?
A SS USB 3.0 port has 400 MB/s (5 Gbps) of bandwidth.
A USB hard drive uses about 50-100 MB/s of that.
>FF14
Sure but it's an MMO so of course that makes sense. As for chat rooms I don't really see the point. If I'm having an extensive conversation it's over voice. If it's short/quick text messages I just pick up my phone and use that instead of the onscreen keyboard. Not that it matter either way seeing as OP still has plenty of free USB ports to use.
>OP still has plenty of free USB ports to use.
Like ONE
>keyboard, mouse, remote, thumb drive
Yeah no, that leaves 3 open ports on his hub, and one open port on the PS4 for his external. Him complaining about an "extra cable" dangling from his PS4 is nonsensical and outright autistic. There is nothing besides an external HDD containing games you wish to play that can not be plugged into one of those 3 remaining slots on his 7 slot hub.
You can hide away the USB-hub with all the shit dangling on it and use an angled USB plug to make it look half-way decent.
You can't really hide that extra cable which has to to the middle of the front of the PS4. It simply looks awful.
You cannot even use an active USB extension cable, because that just acts as a USB hub.
That's a unnecessary limitation and it's not okay, if Sony does it.
>Do you think USB ports have infinite bandwidth? That you can use an extention with 6 ports into 1 and expect every one of them will have the same data transfer of the original?
Fun fact: You can use a two- or four-drive mobile rack for PS4 storage extension.
PS4 doesn't complain, because it's no USB hub, just multiple independent HDDs connected to the same USB port.
Of course, these HDDs still share USB bandwidth, so it's just an artificial limitation.
>You can't really hide that extra cable which has to to the middle of the front of the PS4
You mean exactly like your fucking USB hub? Again, the cosmetic difference here is so excruciatingly minimal it's hard to believe you aren't on the spectrum or suffering from real OCD.
>That's a unnecessary limitation
It's quite necessary, or the limitation wouldn't be there in the first place. You could have just said "my autism requires everything to come out of one hub and the other port to be empty or it looks TERRIBLE" and left it at that friendo. We all have autism fits. I had a hell of a time trying to find a place to stand my PS4pro on it's side so that I could see both the chrome PS logo on the top and the X, O, square, and triangle logos on the bottom. I eventually got over it it and just laid it down flat since it's better for the console anyway.
The USB hub is actually hidden away on the back of the TV, that is the place, the HDD should go too.
Are you all living in your mom's basement, where a few cables dangling from the ceiling don't matter?
