NWN thread, because there hasn't been one in a while.

Which do you consider the better base game between 1 and 2, without addon modules? Because if we include that, then MotB wins regardless. Personally I give it to 1, because even if 2 looked better, had better voice acting, and the mechanics were mostly the same, at least 1's story was only kinda generic while in 2 it was as generic as humanly possible.

1 may have been 3 chapters of fetch quest and a boss fight, but I couldn't even finish 2

I beat it, and it goes pretty much the way you think it will. 1 feels like a campaign written by a newbie DM that wasn't very creative and was a bit cliche but at least he sorta knew what he was doing. 2 felt like someone who never played D&D before and had only seen the movie, and thought every campaign has a plot like that.

I would day NWN1 would win including addon modules because of playermade content and servers that are still active to this day.

Why do people love MotB so much? To me it felt like edgy dark fantasy, what is it that you guys love so much about it?

Any storytelling is amazing after 2 vanilla

Is NWN 1 the worst video game in the history of the universe? I couldn't bring myself to play 2 after playing halfway through 1 simply because some of the items would have the same names and bring bag traumatic memories of this shitpile that got released instead of BG3 and real FO3.

Well sure I never implied it was bad, but whenever I come to these threads it sounds like it was the greatest shit ever. I'm not trying to hate on anybody I am just trying to understand it, maybe I overlooked something

The RP servers are better than any prescripted campaign

I MUST SPEAK WITH YOU

Man, Fenthick must've been into some crazy shit with her if him dying drove her that much off the edge.

Who cares they're both complete shit

To be fair, a brisk chat with her in one of the dlc's does bring her to love you. You can even be suggestive and she likes it. I think it was more the weight of neverwinter and the world being on her shoulders that drove her to that point.

Especially since she thought that fenthic betrayed everyone and that her god betrayed her.

Also I'd say that neverwinter 1 wins by a landslide. Sure the story isn't that great, but the old graphics have charm, the inventory system is nice as well as having all of the item art being hand drawn in a really nice style too, whereas nwn2 has better companions, but far less freedom, passion, and fun magical items. Also the game felt a lot slower too.

Pia is the cutest and most gentle

Tomi > everyone else. Why even pick another companion unless you're playing a thief?

Additionally the mechanics and speed of the game in general.

That reminds me, I need to finish dances with rogues sometime.

What? Chapter 2 requires investigation. You look into different cult activities, read journals and find out where they are and what they're doing and stop them. They aren't fetch quests at all.

Dalean red tiger is great when you're a mage. You can just use knock or the pixie familiar instead of Tomi.

Yeah but Tomi can unlock and disarm fucking anything.

tfw all I want is to RP in a fun NWN1 server but I'm too shy and too afraid to fuck up while roleplaying

2 has literally the worse camera in all of gaming.

>NWN1 is the king of NWN
NWN1 had flaws, I guess. But it was the progenitor, it had a fantastic engine and felt better than the sequel did in execution as well as in sustainable content and communities. The NWN Vault and all the persistent RP/on-line communities and custom module worlds out there were a great few (many?) years of gaming.

NWN2 never fostered this, because the game itself was weak. The campaign was more 'polished', but polish doesn't put soul into a title. The devs of NWN1 clearly actually cared and had something to present you; NWN2 began the slippery descent down the slope of focus-group-tested content and 'generic D&D storyline'.

Also, NWN1 has A Dance with Rogues. Just sayin'.

Yeah but so can your pixie... But I suppose you can use the panther for those extra sneak attacks

NWN is shit
SoU is fun and creative
HotU is amazing act 1 is shit though

NWN2 is decent with some genuinely great parts
MotB is literal 10/10
SoZ is actually fun

I've found that for a lot of melee classes, Tomi is fantastic not just for utility, but because if you tell him to go ranged only, he gets sneak attacks constantly.

NWN's cartoony look was absolute trash though,

I actually modded a lich class into the game so I could do a fresh hotu run this week. You're right though, act 1 is Shit. Fuck the random hidden door checks.

Honestly it doesn't even look cartoony. It's just ps1-tier 3D graphics.

Oh what? He triggers sneak attacks with bows? I thought the damage went down a lot. I used him normally when I did a barbarian run

It does.
Everyone looks super colorful and everything's extremely bright.

I actually felt more immersed while playing NWN1 in ADWR.

God that was hot.

>Oh what? He triggers sneak attacks with bows?

Yeah, it also keeps him from running into enemy hordes every 5 seconds.

Oh man, just try and make a fat character wear armour. It looks like a marionette

Sneak attacks are calculated as whenever the character makes a successful attack against an opponent who is flat-footed, cannot see them, or who is in combat with someone else. So as long as they're focused on you, attacks with his bow are sneak attacks.

That was probably my biggest gripe with Tomi. Having to resurrect his dumb ass every time he looked at a dire spider

Even just as the base game with no dlc, once I got used to the wonky controls, I enjoyed 2 much more.

Pixie is perfect for unlocking and disarming. She can do anything and doesn't take a party slot.
And she is cute as fuck

Huh. I thought it was In melee range only.

I love how they are omni directional in their movement too.. Compared to the party characters, they move so Smoothly.

Yeah I was told on GameFAQs back in the day that if you want Tomi to actually be useful in combat, tell him to put his knife away and use his bow.

Nope.

almost half the people there are bad lel

Bought both, what's the best build for each?

Nobody cares about the boxed modules of NWN games. What made NWN great was the immense modding scene.

Wizard/Barb, start as barbarian and then pump int whenever you level

That depends entirely on what kind of character you want to play. There is no "best" build because different perform better in different scenarios, there is no optimal setup.

NWN1 was supposed to be a stand alone toolset. Atari was cool with that until a month before release and made Bioware rush a campaign. I try to be more lenient on NWN1's OC due to that, but it was a slog.

NWN2 OC was made by Obsidian. It's a little weird and I think they tried to subvert typical DnD plots. You got a gruff dwarf fighter who wants to be monk. The romance for males is a stalker elf that watched over you since you were born. Qara was a nice example of Chaotic Neutral with more a hot headed, impulsive type instead of lulrandumb type.

>just installed the game
>this thread happens

what's the best class for it ?
last time I tried I played as a mage and got destroyed in the very first encounter in the city

Druid is fun as hell in NWN, pick up a few levels of Shifter and a level or two of Monk for extra giggles.

In NWN2, Wizard or Sorceror are always a good time.

Well my favorite setup is F7/ WM7/ BG26, but it's kinda braindead

nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Fighter_7/_weapon_master_7/_blackguard_26

Low level martials are better. By the time you're hitting 3rd level spells casters (esp wiz and cleric) pull ahead and stay there. Depends a lot on what campaign you're playing too, since the gear you find matters a lot.

Shifter is only good at epic levels, which is a shame. Really fun class anyway.

>Why do people love MotB so much?
>To me it felt like edgy dark fantasy

A cleric of good or earth can basically trample the game from start to finish with buffs. It's not a particularly satisfying character in terms of build (Because it's not really a build so much as a demonstration of how broken clerics and druids were in 3rd ed D&D) but it's fun due to the options you have with spell casting, summoning, buffing etc.

>Playing NWN for the campaign
It's like you completely missed the point

Playing multiplayer modules and creating your own is the game

I always think that Qara should be chaotic evil, but they already got the ranger to fill that aligment.

What are some of the best modules on the vault? I feel like going through some.

>you may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like

is the MC actually that long ?

I remember the BG1 campaign ends pretty much when your options start to open up

You can save your character and import him into whatever

I don't care about whatever though, I just care about playing the main module and maybe hordes of the underdark

NWN1 Class Tier List

>God Tier:
Druid

>Top Tier:
Wizard, Sorcerer, Cleric, Shifter

>High Tier:
Champion of Torm, Black Guard, Bard, Weapon Master

>Mid Tier:
Paladin, Harper Scout, Fighter, Red Dragon Disciple, Dwarven Defender

>Low Tier:
Monk, Ranger, Rogue, Pale Master, Arcane Archer, Shadow Dancer

>Trash Tier
Barbarian, Assassin, Purple Dragon Knight

Are we talking about now or when the games were at the peak of their popularity? Because, if it's the latter, then NWN1 wins hands down. The multiplayer persistent worlds for NWN1 were fucking amazing.

Played the shit out of NWN1 and loved it but NWN2 is a much better game overall.

Druid is outright the best class in the game, its totally game breaking if you know how to use it.

NWN2 was a mistake.

what made Barbarian so bad compared to the others?

its just a horribly gimped fighter with slightly higher hp, it gets far worse proficiency and doesn't get the bonus feats, its rages are also terrible and borderline useless.

The big bad also fucking with her mental state every night for weeks afterward probably didn't help.

Hordes is great and the only one i could be bothered to finish. Years of playing 3.5 since high school left me pretty burned out on low level d&d.

NWN2 > NWN1

It doesn't really get anything. At all. Rage is alright but nothing really amazing since every class can just boost their strength and tada you're a barbarian.

I actually love barbarian warrior archetypes in all games and avoid playing casters if at all possible but 3rd and 3.5 edition games are the worst place to really play a straight up no nonsense warrior type. It was a wide criticism of the edition - magic users in D&D had a long history of trumping martial classes and these were the editions where it got worse than ever before or since, frankly.

Make a cleric if you want the heavily armored fighter type, make a druid if you want the most flexability, make a wizard or sorceror if you want to be a flip flip wearing caster.

I never played D&D outside of videogames because I never had friends and spent my teenage years on Sup Forums

Reminder the HIGHEST a Rakshasa shifters AC can be is 27 and that the shape is useless.

>Druids
>Better than wizards

Yes, Druids are significantly better than wizards.

The online was fantastic. No other game has come as close to NWN did in terms of replicating tabletop.

Stoneskin, mestils acid sheath and spell mantle beats druid though

Give me a quick rundown on this meme.

All I wanna do is roleplay as a cute delicate elf girl who gets fucked by a huge orc and loves it.

Is this game for me?

I didn't like how conjurers were given an XP penalty in NVN1 or how there is no XP division in 2, so you get no benefit from soloing stuff.

Overall NWN2 is a better game, NWN1 better RPG

This.

Which pissed me off more than anything when NWN2 came out.

I don't understand why no one has replicated the formula 1 had. It was essentially "Alright, here's an engine and actually most of the game development time was spent constructing these easy to use wizards and software tools to allow you to be content creators. Or you can shut it all off and work in the back ground in more powerful ways, directly scripting if you are skilled enough, to create entirely new experiences we never even thought of. Good luck, have fun."

We had persistant worlds and shit. The games were not terribly far apart and I literally played and preferred a few NWN1 persistent worlds over WoW at the time. And this was the hey day of vanilla WoW that everyone is pining for nowadays we're talking about.

I think skyrim with sex mods is more up your alley.

Uh no, stone skill is useless past like level 6, Creeping Doom goes through mantle and can 1 shot the wizard, acid sheath literally does nothing to Druid

I've tried modding Skyrim. It's not a line, it's a circle.

Not falling for the meme again.

? ? ? ?

Druids get stone skin and quite a few other wizard spells actually. Druids are quite literally the halfway point between Cleric and Wizard. On top of that the game does not stick to the druid restrictions so you can totally run around with full plate and a long sword for example. Druids basically get everything minus a few key wizard and cleric spells at 8th and 9th level but they have one or two of their own on top of more abilities than either of the two "parent" classes.

Clerics get the divine smite ability and stoneskin (with some domains) shield of faith and a bunch of other shit though so for my money they eek out a little ahead but even I am forced to admit it's mostly style at that point and they're even.

Well at least you didn't get stuck playing 3.pathfinder for 10 years and counting like me. The BG series (both pc and the console ones) are also good but require more autism.

There's no end to modding Skyrim.

You make me feel old, I was already a teen when BG came out

I remember a part in ADWR where you get captured by orcs and become a cum dump for one. While you arent an elf in the scenario, you're a small white girl.

>god tier

>great tier

>okay tier

>shit tier

plebs who can't build a good monk need not reply

I played full pure run in ADWR

Romanced Pia too. God those were some great heartboners

You are old enough to be taking STR penalties then, I was only 6. I beat BG 2 last year for the first time, best CRPG ever made imo, on the balance of gameplay and story I like it better than even Torment.

Sharwyn has TITS.

nah the best CRPG ever made is pretty clearly Morrowind

>>god tier
>monk
lolno

So do you.

Mom or sounds fun though. I just can't role play as a druid. I can enjoy being a power-hungry wizard a lot more. Especially with the prc mods that allows lichdom

Lorewise sure, but the gameplay is pretty clunky even in the few places it's aged well.

But I stomped the shit out of NWN1 and the expansions as a barbarian.
