Voice acting and translation in original release
Technical issues in Saturn release
Too easy in all releases
The music in the Inverted Castle gets repetitive very quickly.
What technical issues? I've been thinking about playing the Saturn version to try out those extra areas.
The only argument that idiots know how to repeat.
The real issue is that most of the halls are straight lines with 3 or 4 of the same guy.
Massively downgraded audio
Downgraded visuals
Silky smooth 40 FPS
Completely raped aspect ratio that's unfixable due to being raped on asset level
Intended.
Igarashi wanted a Castlevania that was more accessible to everyone. Given its popularity, I think it accomplished its goal. This isn't a flaw.
Both of these absolutely cripple it. There's little challenge and the level design is complete ass. There are plenty of better Metroid-likes.
This.
Such a great variety of music in 1st castle, why do they use that same track over and over again in reverse?
Here have 3:
-garbage resolution
-garbage fps
-garbage textures
If I can add a couple more specific ones on top of what said:
>sprites of lower quality
>no transparencies
>useless new items except for one (Godspeed Boots)
>Low-quality new areas
How do I map the water portions of the inverted castle? The bat can't fly underwater and I can't jump high enough. Is it a relic? There's only one more non-Vlad relic that I need.
The voice acting is great though.
No it isn't, it's objectively terrible and that's why it has meme status due to how awful it is.
this they're super cheesy in a good way, I don't know how you can't like them.
By having actual taste and not being a memespouting manchild with mentality of a 12 year old, for starters.
wolf can swim
You're definitely a minority in this.
Everyone I've ever talked to loves the voice acting.
Muramasa takes too long to level up, especially if you want to max it.
Are there any good SotN fangames?
I don't care if I'm in minority user.
I'll take proper translation and dual audio of PSP version over PS1 crap anytime of the day.
It also helps that PSP version is objectively superior with new content and proper Maria.
Why are there no games as good as this?
I tried other 'metroidvania' games and I just think they're shit.
It nailed a perfect balance and never felt tedious. A gripping story, easter egg names and stellar voice acting solidified its place in video game history as the greatest Castlevania ever made.
user, it IS objectively superior.
No slowdowns that even PS1 version has in transparency heavy spots.
New content.
Accurate and faithful to JPN version translation.
Dual audio.
Properly implemented Maria.
It IS objectively superior version of the game.
you'd think there would be a difficulty hack by now, since people still talk about it. fft is still being modded. not sure why it's such a big fucking deal. a no exp gain mode alone would be nice.
Metroid gets all sorts of hacks but the Igavanias get nothing.
>objectively
I agree with your points, though.
fuck backtracking.
OOE is best castlevania.
best of both worlds. wish there were more games like it.
See And stop deleting your posts faggotron.
Wait, I thought we were talking about the voice work, not the differences between Saturn and PSX versions.
If that's the case, then I agree that it is objectivelly superior. Saturn's version was simply poorly and hastily handled.
user we're talking about PSP vs PS1, not PS1 vs Saturn.
PSP > PS1 > Saturn in terms of SotN releases
I deleted the post due to the wrong reaction, not because I went back on my word, faglord.
well there you go.
why every igavania didn't have a mode for no exp gain is baffling. such a simple thing.
PSP version still has the fucked up aspect ratio tho
>Accurate and faithful to JPN version translation.
This is not objectively superior given a lot of people like the ps1 versions translations
aria of sorrow exists.
Shit tier level design
Poor weapon balance
speaking of metroid, is there a super metroid hack that makes it control like the gba games? can't seem to find anything.
It is objectivelly superior in that it delivers the story better.
However user is wrong in thinking it is true to the Japanese script. It is not. For instance: Shaft says Alucard is "stronger than the mightiest vampire hunter" when in Japanese no such thing occurs.
But still, the PSP script and acting are better,
>PSP version still has the fucked up aspect ratio tho
No it doesn't. It preserves aspect ratio with borders you retard.
If it stretched to full screen then it would be fucked.
Neck yourself.
user, people liking PS1 translation is pure subjectivity though because on objective merit it's inferior. It's inaccurate to the developer's intention and the voice acting is hilariously bad.
The Inverted Castle. Talk about lazy ways to extend a game.
Richter was a shitty final boss.
Shit difficulty curve. It increases steadily up to probably around the doppleganger and then the difficulty tanks and the game becomes almost boring-tiers of easy.
>There are two display sizes in the PSP version. We're going with the smaller one, since that one is closest to the original resolution. Due to the portable screen, the PSP can only run in one resolution: 480x272. By this point, most developers were confident that gamers knew the difference between standard 4:3 and widescreen, and would accept that games originally designed for a standard def TV would look awful fully stretched to the PSP resolution. (Didn't stop them from screwing up Valkyrie Profile or Final Fantasy Tactics, but that's a different issue.) So, pillar/letterboxing is generally seen as acceptable. However, it still doesn't run in 256x240 like the PlayStation version - instead, it's stretched to the same 320x240 resolution as the Saturn version.
Jesus calm down. Are you usually this spastic?
>He didn't wear both rings In the Clock Room
How can you be this stupid?
>Richter
>Final boss
Should I tell him guys?
So much bait and shitposting ITT, I'm out.
Alucard is a faggot. I'd rather play as Dracula.
Done.
Holy fuck, how can you be baited this hard?
>as the greatest Castlevania ever made
Nah.
>OOE is best castlevania.
I think it's pretty sloppy and fails to capture the appeal of either style. Cool bosses, though.
Yeah, because this looks good.
HoD exists
Leveling system is stupid and completely unnecessary
Spells are useless, save for the the broken ones
Far too many long corridors with nothing but repeating enemies
And this:
Does this game have poor input detection or am I just bad at spells?
It was too easy. It takes 0 effort to become super overpowered
try Hollow Knight
not as great, but REALLY GOOD
Someday, perhaps sotnhacked.wordpress.com
Too easy, too simple, too slow before you get the bat, inverted castle is lazy and the redub was bland
youtube.com
I'M INTERESTED IN THIS
to prove you can fuck up everything
Shit locked behind NG+ just for adding one. Having to grind a fuckton if you want all of the items.
Aria of Sorrow was better
>There are plenty of better Metroid-likes.
no there aren't
>merely pretending
Man, people praise this game too much. I mean I enjoyed it, but it's way inferior to most other metroidvanias. Dawn of Sorrow is so much better as well
I like the Classicvanias a lot more, in general.
what this guy said. It's decent, but by no means amazing whatsoever.
>Intended.
You can intend to make a game shit. It doesn't make it good if you succeed in doing it. The game is still far too easy for it to be truly engaging for series veterans or even noobs replaying it. Even if it's intentional, this IS a flaw nonetheless. It makes the game a one-and-done deal, which for a metroidvania is paramount to a cardinal sin.
also
>popularity
>relating at all to a game's quality
baka desu fampai
Also, getting max completion is janky as fuck in the reverse castle. I sure do love rubbing the wolf's head on the ceiling for 5 minutes trying to get a box to appear on the map screen.
>Shit tier level design
>Poor weapon balance
Both good arguements, though I wouldn't say all the level design is shit. It has its moments for sure, but it also has some really bad parts too. It just varies in quality too much.
>playstation version
there
Nothing wrong with it
I find sotn to be the worst metroidvania. It makes sense since it was the first one.
I don't particularly like the gameplay, the level design is nothing spectacular and the bosses are all uninteresting to battle.
There are no weapon variety, no good magic system etc. The music is also overrated in my opinion. It's good but there's better ost in the series.
The Nintendo ds Cassies crush symphony of the night very hard.
