What went wrong?

What went wrong?

Base building designed like a fucking Mobile Phone Game

Konami

You faggots memed him so much about cut scenes and muh movie he got rid of them completely in favour of optional audio tapes that no one actually paid attention to and then cried there was no story

The trailers were better than the game.

The story was absolute trash and practically non-existent, and that deflates the entire experience.

It still hurts.

Not much. Amazing gameplay. Innovative narrative imo. WHOOOOOOOO? Right on par with the rest of the series.

Nothing other than cut content and the typical animu tier MGS storyline.
Game was based. Gameplay was tight, visuals were solid, themes were memorable. Put damn near 300 hours into it. Fuck gay MGS weebs and their muhbigboss bullshit.

trying too deep

it was an unfinished game, the fact that it was still decent is a miracle

>hardly any boss battles
>mobile game tier Mother Base mechanics
>generally dead open world with little to do
>horribly designed side ops that are literally copy pastes
>general lack of mission variety
>flat characters and a story that feels unnecessary
>helicopter rides everywhere

It's a shame because the controls and gameplay mechanics are there, just everything else is so spoiled and poorly thought-out.

Kojima spent all his time tweaking the fox engine and mocapping Joosten's ass instead of actually finishing more than the framework of an actual game. Konami told him to wrap it up, and I assume he was playing figurative chicken and thought Konami would cave and give him additional time. Guess they didn't

Both parties are responsible. People are just deluding themselves with post-hoc rationalizations to keep blame away from Kojima.

>flat characters and a story that feels unnecessary
I like what the game does with Skull Face, but the fact the story is unnecessary should have been obvious from the outset. There wasn't anything left to do with Big Boss, so Kojima made the best of it.

His mistake was sticking to the current continuity with PW and MGSV to begin with.

>Story was crap.
>Characters were crap.
>Level design was crap.
>Micro-transactions and pointless waiting
>Most weapons are useless
>Can only hold a limited supply of weapons and equipment
>More micro-transactions and waiting
>Grinding
>Even more micro-transactions and waiting
>No procure on site
>No decent boss fights
>Ranks are based primarily on speed
>AI will run when it thinks you aren't looking directly at it.
>Hideo and Kojima

lol I made this exact post today

The game had almost no story, which coming off peace walker was disappointing. The missions had little to nothing to do with the over all plot. Skullface was underutilized and the bosses were bullet sponges.

Not to mention a quarter of the game was axed so there was no real ending, leaving it feeling hollow. It also sucked that so many of the end game items were essentially locked behind an FOB pay wall and that the best gear is incredibly expensive to use. I only just now unlocked the final assault rifle upgrade that allows the high durability suppressor and I've been playing the game since it came out.

Ultimately I think it was just too ambitious for it's own good, peace walker had a better story and narrative structure while V just kind of lacked that magic.

What makes it more disappointing is that it had the best gameplay the series has ever known. Just a shame it was in a half finished game.

also since making a thread about it would get me banned do you guys think Kojima and Joosten ever fucked? I always wondered about that.

Needed another year of development. You can tell they perfected all the gameplay mechanics and assets. but were not able to come up with all the bosses or bases, which led to a mostly empty game. Still, it was really fun to play.

In my opinion, the best thing they could have done is to completely scrap the whole Mother Base concept. They should have structured it like MGS 3, where it's just one long adventure. Going back and forth on the helicopter once every ten minutes absolutely murdered the pacing and tone. But then again without that, Kojima couldn't have put credits in the game a thousand times. Fucking hack.

The story was always shit in Metal Gear and with this game everyone finally realized that Kojima is a fucking hack. Then their autistic minds rejected the truth and blamed Konami, and now they're all waiting for Death Stranding so they can suck on Hideo's jap cock some more.
Basically, MGSV had the best gameplay and just as shitty a plot as always, and people didn't like that it was actually fun to play and not a movie this time.

>the story was always shit in metla gear

Say what you will about the plots of the MGS games, but at least they actually HAD plots to speak of. MGSV does not even have a complete plot.

What does Sup Forums think of Metal Gear Survive?

I agree with this. Half of the time it felt like they were like, "Okay what now?" "Uhhhhhh.... I don't know.... Then Liquid shows up as a kid!"

MGS 1-4 actually felt like they had points they wanted to cover and had definitive beginnings, middles, and ends. In fact MGS4 went a long way to fill in any blanks left by 1-3, no matter how outlandishly they may have done it.

Like a tacked on multiplayer mode was amputated and re-purposed into its own game. Nothing to applaud, nothing to whine about either. It's just somewhat lazy asset reuse.
>MGSV had the best gameplay
Just depends on what you like about the series. I don't really think MGSV's gameplay is the best, though I do think it has the broadest appeal.

>In fact MGS4 went a long way to fill in any blanks left by 1-3, no matter how outlandishly they may have done it.
MGSV didn't really have any blanks to fill in. I think MGSV has a better story than MGS4 though, for the most part.

Motherbase was ultimately pointless for anything other than showering and creeping on Quiet

Why did they have to fall for the open world meme

Solid gameplay but lacking content in general.
I don't care about story all that much since it's shit and pretentious to began with.
Waiting time that designed to be like a mobile phone is a letdown too, even PW did it better since you can just fucking around in a quick mission or two to skip the waiting.

Kojimbo was a huge westaboo and open world is a recent fad when TPP in development, it's just natural he fell for the meme.

>muh TV shows

I don't think TPP is really an "open world" game in the same way that a game like Red Dead Redemption or Breath of the Wild are, or GTA.

That makes all the wasted space all the more questionable, but still.

i'm one of the few that loved the mgs4 cinematic experience and got completely shafted by 5. RIP

I hope they manage to create something decent but i'm not holding my breath

i liked that MGS4 was a game AND a movie

Unfortunately it wasn't very good at being either.

>V's voice acting was absolutely ripped to shreds
>game is literally unfinished
>dumb twist - U R DA BIG BOSS, PLAYER! :^) YOUR EXPERIENCES ARE LEGENDARY!
>open world serves no purpose at all and doesn't meaningfully respond to snake's actions
>no large, complex indoor areas
>fulton
>helicopter rides
>stupid base-building shit
>dropping items trivializes the game
>no sound/light meter
>trailers were literally the best part
>worse level design than ground zeroes

yea well ur wrong
