Knowing them, he wasn't harsh enough towards it.
I'm still salty about how their N64 was just an excuse to talk about how the PS1 was supposedly better.
That'll teach that troll/Sony shill
Funny thing is, the description is right.
So he basically got fired for having an opinion that financially damaged Nintendo and his employer?
Makes it seem like his opinion was on point tbqh
IGN even have a promotion going on with nintendo.
They litterly just fucking sold their soul down the river
We all know they never had one to begin with
>So he basically got fired for having an opinion that financially damaged Nintendo and his employer?
No. He didn't say why he was fired. No reason to assume he was fired for the review other than the standard conspiratorial mind people on the internet have.
he's wrong about it not fitting the role of a handheld
lol
Fake news blown the FUCK out
>People still think Nintendo being run by Yakuza is a meme
wew lads
Gamespot all over again.
What did he mean by this?

Fired at the same time he reviews a console, which happens once in 5+ years
Employer has financially tie ins with the Console makers them self and holding loads of sponsorshit in their vids and competitions to win the consoles themselves.
Yeah, coincidence.
holy fuck just because of this I'm never buying another nintendo product again
I knew the reviews for zelda were paid I was right
You're retarded if you think this is what happened
Just realise that this isn't limited to consoles and the same thing happens when you do this with big AAA games. And it isn't a bug, it isn't corruption, as that implies it wasn't there to begin with, that it wasn't the initial purpose. Sites like IGN were made to collude with publishers.
Stop reading reviews and start watching unsponsored streams to determine if something is worth your money.
>Not paying for the reviews of their console
Rookie mistake, trying to compete with Sega was never going to end well, Nintendo is going the way Atari, Atari, Atari, Atari, Atari, Atari, and Atari did.
>They litterly just fucking sold their soul down the river
>just fucking sold their soul
>just did it
Yeah no, they have been working in Microsoft pockets for years, Hence the reason that they give all Halo games an 8+
Oh and EA, why they give all the shitty Mass effect and Dragon age games high scores.
do you even know who Jeff Gerstmann is because this is pretty much the exact same thing that happened to him and lo and behold a few years after he said in an interview that actually yeah it was because he gave a game a low review when they had ads plastered over half the site, it's really not much of a stretch
If he got fired for writing a bad review, why didn't in just not post the bad review to their website? It just slipped through the editor that their business partner wasn't receiving the 10/10 they paid for, just forgot about it for a couple seconds? I hate when that happens.
They DID pay for the reviews, it's just that paying for reviews doesn't take the form of handing the reviewer a bribe. In fact, they don't see a penny.
These journo outlets have a business model. The business model is that they have earlier access to stuff than everyone else, so if you want an early opinion on quality you have to go to them. This makes them money. Now, the only reason they have that advantage is because they are working with game publishers. If they are antagonistic and don't generally give good reviews, they aren't going to be favoured, aren't going to get early review copies.
You don't become as big as IGN by being adversarial, just like you don't become a major mainstream media journalist by questioning the government.
This is why game reviewers are always young idiots writing at a middle school level, with poor taste and poor knowledge in games, instead of jaded 50-60 something video game experts who have seen it at all and have a deep knowledge of every genre and which games have influenced which. Those people don't give a 9 out of 10 to every run of the mill AAA game.
When Gerstmann was fired for the Kane and Lynch review it happened because AFTER the review was posted they started threatening to pull the ads if he wasn't fired. I think it is very rarely the case where it's something explicit like "Give our game X review score" it's just a mutual understanding that when a company is buying lots of ad space it's probably not a great idea to piss them off if you can help it. Maybe IGN felt a 7/10 was something Nintendo could live with and they were wrong.
...
It's like the Aesop parable of the father, son, and donkey.
Try to please everyone and nobody is happy.
>Fired at the same time he reviews a console, which happens once in 5+ years
Consoles don't come out that often so yeah.
>Employer has financially tie ins with the Console makers them self and holding loads of sponsorshit in their vids and competitions to win the consoles themselves.
There's usually a wall between editorial (this guy) and things like marketing and advertising.
>Yeah, coincidence.
Yeah, it seems like it. My point is that its not always some grand conspiracy.
Correlation does not imply causation.
Nintendo paid for a lot of underhanded shit regarding Zelda.
The ESRB gave it an E rating and their summary makes no mention of hunting animals and killing animals, despite that having a very significant role in the game, and despite such content being monitored by ESRB's guidelines which would have otherwise rated the game a T at best and M at worst.
Wow vince was literally the only reason to ever go to ign.
>do you even know who Jeff Gerstmann is
A Sony shill
>Purposely breaks his Switch and says it has problems
>Horizon 10/10
no hes not.
>animals explode in a poof of smoke and appear as meat when killed
I'm pretty sure if it was even a little graphic they'd have gotten a rating bump.
jack of all trades, but master of none.
>Vince Ingenito
Good.
But Jeff Ghustman is a fucking cunt he'd lowball legit good games because of some stupid Sup Forums tier autistic grudge.
As much as i hate gamespot and still do they made the right call in firing him he's a cunt.
That's not shilling, it's just shit taste. He loves Call of Duty and gives it GOTY awards.
>do you even know who Jeff Gerstmann is because this is pretty much the exact same thing that happened to him and lo and behold a few years after he said in an interview that actually yeah it was because he gave a game a low review when they had ads plastered over half the site, it's really not much of a stretch
The key difference here is once the thing with Jeff Gerstmann happened, everyone noticed. Its kinda ridiculous to assume a place like IGN would do something like that, regardless of what you think of IGN as a company.
Its also worth noting this type of thing had happened before with Sony ads. I believe Jeff said it was a Ratchet and Clank game at the time that got a score Sony didn't like and they came to Jeff's boss or manager and had a talk with him about it. Jeff also said in the interview when they got bought by CBSi that this was a problem because of the higher ups and not anyone he knew on staff. Someone got cold feet and fired Jeff as a result.
He gave Horizon a 5/5 and has always talked about how the Switch problems were specifically because he dropped them. He also didn't review the Switch (no one at Giant Bomb has).
the evidence for big money for "pro review sites" and the switch/zelda keeps piling up (and i like the botw btw)
nah jeff is pretty cool my dude. he usually has honest gripes with games.
This has been going on since the early 90s at the least, it's just worse now because the review scores are becoming increasingly inflated and now nothing can get less than a 9 without being considered shit.
Giant Bomb has never given a CoD game GOTY before. They quite often rank highly on his personal Top 10 lists but not for the site lists.
Yes, he is.
the switch is a pos though its just a Wii U but WORSE
Really? Back in the Gamespot days he'd just lowball every fucking game because he thought he could and its what got him fired.
Doesnt matter if he was right half the time i couldnt take his reviews seriously.
The Occulus rift one was fucking hilarious though and the PSVR
