Reminder that if you didn't play Nier and Drakengard before you started this game then you won't understand it on anything more than a surface level, you literally wasted your money.

And no, shitty youtube "recaps" don't count you underage faggot.

>F-fuck off s-secondaries waaaaaahhhhh

Just be glad your shitty series is finally getting popular.

What if I only played Drakengard 2?

Is your name Coldsteel The Hedgehog?

Whats your problem op? Autism much?

I watched an entire un-edited play through of both games.

I was going to emulate drakengard, but pcsx2 is a huge pile of shit and doesn't like working.

What about Drakengard 2 and 3? If I want the full experience, do I need to play all of them in order?

Ok?

>Playing games for their shit plot

there's plenty of dod3 references too idiot at least care about that one

Call me when 2B shows up in Drakengard and maybe I'll consider it.

>you literally wasted your money.
I bought it for the gameplay and enjoyed that, fuck Taro's psudo philosophical shit and shock value.

I'm going to correct you OP, While I do feel the same, there is one AND ONLY ONE thing they can do other then play it.

Look up TheDarkId

I played Nier and got all the endings but I'm never paying Drakengard.

Masochism isn't my thing, sorry.

I'd say like this: If you can't play Nier on japanese - kys immediately, weeb.
和の国の住人

sounds like a huge waste of time

>emil can't die
>red eyes = bad
ok recaps done

I'm not playing games with shit gameplay just to understand the "real" story.

>I was going to emulate Drakengard

Dont. Its not a fun game in the slightest. Imagine Dynasty warriors 2 but with no specials, no combos, and constant waves of enemies on a time limit

For fucks sake, theres even a level you have to kill 1000 soldiers in 30 minutes, and if you let even ONE run away you have to start over

wow that image is lame as fuck, why the fuck would you make that?

Reminder that if you played Nier and Drakenguard You still wont understant shit.

>try playing nier a year ago
>can't fathom why people like this game
>drop it and don't come back
>pick up automata
>fun combat
>story is ok so far
>reminds me of a ps2 game in a good way

I'm having a good time

What if I wanna just play a fun game. Also those games aren't directly connected and are hardly considered similar. They're barely in the same universe.

I only bought it for the gameplay and the plot(Butt).

>I played these bad games before YOU did

Drakengard isn't as necessary. Nier is, however.

like 90% of ppl

Do you guys think 2B would get a penis attachment for Ninez boipussy?

But that's not true OP
The true strength of each of these games is that it's character focused instead of plot focused, so even though they have this huge history, what matters is whats happening right now. Automata isnt about THOUSANDS OF YEARS EPIC WARS WHOAH APOCALYPSE, it's about androids getting FEELINGS and trying to survive in a pointless futile war, finding something to exist for.

LE BWAHHH

As someone who hold Nier in his top 10, its not so much gameplay based as character based. Weiss grew on me so much by the end of the game, and when I thought i'd hate someone as vulgar as Kaine, she played off both Nier and weiss beautifully, because unlike Drakengard, Kaine is the ONLY one who curses and drops Fuck every two sentances, Nier, Weiss and Emil are all clean despite the situations they get thrown into. And then Emil is just so likeable you can't hate him.

For me combat isnt amazing, but I still find it very playable and enjoyable. Sure its not DMC or Vanquish, but its not meant to be, I find it more simple like Zelda or early 3D castlevanias, which I grew up with and loved.

Game's also based on some weird-ass japanese play that you probably haven't watched, so you won't understand your cool secret game shit either.

I read the screenplay after Ending E. Its not that heavily based on it. All that matters is Number 2 saw some shit, was friends with anenome and became A2. All of that is told in game.

>2B will never friendzone you
Just

>Plot

Thats Ending. Get your fucking terminology right.

good post

...

Does NieR actually have any world/lore connection to the Drakengard series? I thought it was separate?

Nier starts after Drakenguards joke ending.

nier is a sequel to drakengard ending E

Drakengard is weebshit and you cannot convince me otherwise. Gameplay is shit and the only people that like it do so for the characters, all of which are just anime cliches. Nier isn't really much better but at least it has passable combat and the characters are less obnoxious than those in drakengard.

Seriously, is the story that greatly enriched by playing the other games? I am seriously considering buying this today but I dont have time or money to beat 1 or 3 other games for world building and background info purposes

also, its a fucking hack and slash - how important is the story to begin with? did you people really give a shit about what was going on?

Nier is the only real continuation to Drakengard's story since 3 was a prequel and 2 is fan fiction.

>also, its a fucking hack and slash
it's an RPG
no you dont have to play the previous games
there's a bunch of references, but it's not that important

what kind of autist saves an image like that?

Nier is a "What if?" story following the events of Ending E to drakengard, where Caim gets shot down by a jet. Instead of jsut ending as a joke ending, Taro thought to himself, What consequences would the world see if a magic demon godessand an ancient dragon wound up in the real world, Spreading an inhuman disease that couldn't be combated in this world, and introducing the element of otherworldly magic to it.

I-I saved it actually (not him btw)

>joke ending
So the joke was on us all along?

>playing MGR2 for plot
taroshills are funny sometimes

>its a fucking hack and slash - how important is the story to begin with?
You sound like a muso player
But seriously, without the story, Nier and Dod would be pure garbage none would touch

hmm, rpg elements weren't very apparent in the demo. one more question since you seem to have played it: is combat always a matter of mashing dodge for invincibility frames and then mashing attack? that pretty much got me throught the demo on hard with no problems

I honestly don't see why Taro fans and Plat fans fight over this, We got the best of both worlds, Great writing and characters from Taro, and fantastic playability and combat from Platinums end.

Can't we all just get along and enjoy the game? Why fight at all?

the game is pretty enjoyable at its surface level too for once though

I think its okay to get into the taroverse through Automata.

I just wanted to play it for robot butt

can you put the camera under her butt somehow?

not musou but i grew up on DmC and God of War. I liked the demo because the gameplay was fun and 2B is an erocutie, but thats not to say I don't love good storylines. It just didnt seem like the focus from what I played

>that pretty much got me throught the demo on hard with no problems
well the full game is harder on hard since they changed the auto item chip
it used to heal you if your health went to 0, but now it heals you if you're under 30%
if you got from 40% to 0 in one hit, you die
you get one shot a lot on hard
the dodging works the same way as in the demo

>t i grew up on DmC and God of War
Stopped reading right there. Take this (you) and fuck off.

okay, that sounds challenging enough. i assumed the demo was easy because they were the starting enemies, so im sure it wont be that easy to dodge all the time. good job shill, you just convinced me to buy.

T-THANK YOU SENPAI

These games run off the story.

Drakengard isnt required. Nier is.

>Reminder that if you didn't play Nier and Drakengard before you started this game then you won't understand it on anything more than a surface level
I'm not as stupid as a 12 year old kid like you. I understand stuff without having everything spoon-fed.

youtube.com/watch?v=JE6n2KGbaZ0

It's set 5000 years after the events of the other games, which deal with largely different events

I watched drakengard recaps since, but plan on playing Nier before I pick up automata. How's that? All of these old shitty games are expensive enough

>if you didn't play Nier and Drakengard before you started this game then you won't understand it on anything more than a surface level
Not really. It's suppossed to take place in the same world, but it's not related to any of those games. There are some parts that kind of remind you of Nier, but that's just Taro things.

>Drakengardfags are still trying to force their shitty game on people by associating it with actual good games

Fuck off already.

Nier is an average action RPG with an amazing story. I definitely recommend it.

>play 3 shit games to understand 1 good game.

>There are some parts that kind of remind you of Nier, but that's just Taro things

>Literally mentions and doccuments project Gestalt
>The Giant and the Dragon
>WCS syndrome and patient record for yonah
>Devola and Popola and the Library re-creation
>Council of humanity
>Original Gestalt doccumentation
>Replicant sickness records with the black scrawl
>Emil and the lunar tears
>Sorrow and Salvation remixes
>People of Fassad and the Forest king
>YoRHa is literally third generation of the council androids from Nier
>Nier and Weiss weapon stories
>Talks about the village as a testing ground

>Kind of remind you

Are you fucking serious? Its outright blatant.

Nier Gestalt is a good game though.

>Expesnive

Nier is $10 at gamestop, unless it hiked up on popularity

>Lore summary
I'm watching the “Drakengard X - The movie” 3 hour compilations. I figure that'll be enough to appreciate the story of N:A

>White chlorination syndrome syndrome

Barely. The connection is so thin it might as well not exist at all.

Yes, because a niche series exploding in popularity never goes wrong right?

>>Nier and Weiss weapon stories

Which weapon? I know the iron pipe mentions best daughteru, but I don't remember seeing one about Weiss.

youtube.com/watch?v=1GZaZeVpT10
>That moment when this started playing on route A
>Tfw you remember the first gameplay trailer.

Drakengard series fucking blows. Yoko Taro's drones can fuck off with that nonsense.

Play Nier, then Automata. You're good. Far, FAR better any of the Drakengard games in every respect (except music, music has always been great).

Drakengard is NOT mandatory. Its a good story, but NOT good game. Nier is playable and enjoyable however, and highly recommend you play that first.

If you want to know Drakengard's story, Follow this walkthrough, It's the best one to date, and explains everything well with a lot of great side commentary from the characters.

lparchive.org/Drakengard/

>Nier
>niche

Wrong.

>Joke
You mean TRUE ending
The joke ending is when the little gayboy sacrifices himself to stop time

...

Was the mention of Accord the only Drakengard reference plotwise? I can't seem to remember anything else.

Dont forget: Song of the Anceints and Dark Colosus destroys all

As well as the backstory about the shade cast into the sea

When does the game pick up?
I just encountered the Ayyy lmaos and so far the game has been more traveling from point A to B than actual fighting, even when there's fighting situations they've been fairly unsatisfying, like the Amusement Park had the bosses but most other enemies were non-hostile, and the fight with the lmaos was more of an scripted event, so far nothing has really come close to the factory level from the start,

Taro games always sell like shit and only had a small niche fanbase. It wasn't until Automata announcement, Platinum, and the exclusivity shitposting that the game gained popularity.

Something about Nier instantly clicked for me. Just the atmosphere when walking around Nier's village and hearing Devola sing the Song of the Ancients was almost magical.

Emil is fucking adorable in Automata

Other then "Dragon and giant" yes.

Dragoon Lance's weapon story is a reference to Caim and Angelus, but other than that not really.

Automata only got made because the higher ups at SE realized there was a fanbase large enough to justify a sequel.

>Sup Forums is the only place where games gain popularity bwecause of shitposting!

Get off this site, it might do you some good. Tumblr, facebook, communities like Gaf, gamespot, and even reddit are all excited about Automata as a game. Nobody cares about "Exclusivity" except the consolewarring shitfaces that dwell here.

Drakengard? no need.

NieR, yes.

Angelus and Queen Beast are referenced in one of the Gestalt reports. Report 1 if I'm not mistaken

THIS CANNOT CONTINUE

It's actually because over time, merchandising turned Nier from a loss to a net positive.

>wah waah my special snowflake game that I only used to know now other people are enjoying it waah waah

kys

>console
>can't fucking press attack buttons while aiming the turret companion
>have to use unreliable lock-on just to be able to attack

>during any bullet hell sequence, offense becomes impossible because i don't have two right thumbs

oh man i love leafy too xd

>Arrive at the bunker
>Spent time exploring and talking to all the NPCs, even found a couple of items and gold

Also got the Broken [W]ings bad end , this is truly a JRPG/VN hybrid with Platinum combat.

So it's popular now and not niche at all? Thanks for agreeing with me.
