I think it's so they don't have to rejig any of the cutscenes. How they coped with different weapons in cutscenes in previous games was having Shepard whip out a genetic pistol or rifle, even if his spec wouldn't allow him to use one.

That's the best part of squad based (or party based) single player RPGs is that you get to customize your party however you please.

The worst part is the muzzle flash comes out of the back of the gun at a point where if the gun was facing the right way it'd not be near the barrel. So it's not just a missed bug, someone actually rendered the scene that way.

They'd never bother putting all this effort in, making models of the pieces of the gun so the slide can be detached. The gun is a laser so obviously it's not gonna have all those parts, but they could at least try to animate a struggle instead of a quick game of pattycake

Ryder can use all weapons though. How will they handle him pulling out a weapon during a cutscene?
