I'm going to finally buy a Nintendo 3DS.
What essential games should I get?
I haven't owned a Nintendo product since the Gamecube.

What kind of games you like
3ds its just a pokemon machine.
just like every portable nintendo console
All kinds, though not gimmick games like nintendogs or brain train stuff obviously. I can dig puzzle games if they are very engaging and/or charming. Mostly adventure, platform, JRPG, action, strategy, ...
Attack of the Friday Monster
>I can dig puzzle games
You into Picross? Pretty sure the 3DS has a version of it.
Should i get the New 3ds or New 3ds xl?
I heard that the regular New 3ds has better graphics
Puzzles:
>BoxBoy games
>Pushmo/Crashmo/Stretchmo
>Picross and Pokemon Shuffle
Not true at all. At this point you're better off getting a New 3DS or New 3DS XL either way if you plan to play Kingdom Hearts 3D, Monster Hunter, Xenoblade, Hyrule Warriors Legends, Runbow, and some other games. If you don't care about any of those and can get a 3DS for cheap then it doesn't matter
It has a couple if you also count old DS games, but i'm not sure if it's for me, thanks though, maybe I'll check it out anyway, have a closer look.
The entire Phoenix Weight series is playable on 3ds
The Mario rpgs
Link between worlds is great.
I'm talking about both NEW 3DS
Reread what i wrote
>New 3ds has better graphics
Regular 3DS games will still look and play the same. Unless you hack, only *new* 3DS games take advantage of the added power so don't get a *new* 3DS based on this.
A *new* 3DS offers more stable 3D, clit stick, and other shit I can't remember. Basically minor upgrades over the original 3DS.
I'd personally get an XL because it would be easier to hold but you need to determine what is more comfy yourself.
the xl's screens are upscaled
I have both a normal and an XL. The normal looks better because the XL uses the same resolution and just stretches the image, but the XL is more comfortable to hold and use. I'd get whatever is more important to you.
Rune Factory 4 might be up your ally
I can recommend:
Fire Emblem Fates (good gameplay, shit plot).
SMTIV games
Devil Summoner
REvelations
MSG3
Etrian Odyssey series
Rune Factory 4
Bravely Default series
Devil Survivors if you didn't play them on 3ds
Tales of the Abyss if you didn't play it on PS2
DQVII and DQVIII (if you didn't play it on PS2)
Steamworld Dig and Steamworld Heist
Gunvolt series
Everything Ace Attorney
+
Other Nintendo games (not really a big fan of nintendo franchises, except for Fire Emblem).
+
DS library (HUGE)
>Xenoblade Chronicles 3D
>Etrian Odyssey IV (not the best in the series, but a great starting point)
>Bravely Default/Second (literally just classic Final Fantasy, even made by SquareEnix)
>Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest
>Kirby
>Shin Megami Tensei IV/IV:A/Soul Hackers/Devil Survivor/etc.
>Dragon Quest VII/VIII
>Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
>Picross 3D
>999/Virtue's Last Reward/Zero Time Dilemma (ZTD is shit but you really should play it if you like VLR)
>Shantae and the Pirate's Curse
>Pokemon (S/M and B/W/B2/W2 are great)
This. Rune Factory 4 is the best game on the 3DS by a mile.
Wow really? I really enjoyed RF1 but couldn't finish thanks to my faulty r4. Is it a huge improvement?
Literally just Monster Hunter.
Not him, but it's an improvement across the board, to the point where playing previous entries will be a massive turn-off (except maybe 3).
If you liked the first one then you'll probably like 4. I wasn't a fan, but everyone says it's a huge improvement on the rest of the series.
God yes. Literally every aspect of gameplay is better. The fighting is better, the farming is better, the crafting is better. The only thing that might be a downgrade from other RFs is the fishing.
The only thing that can be considered worse is the waifu and that's preference. I, personally, like the waifus for every game. 4 also added husbandos if you're a grill or want to pretend.
Thanks for the tips.

fuck off
Fuck ON nostalgia baybay
Underage
I'm 24. What gave you that impression?
Man I wish I had taken even crappy cellphone photos of some of the dialogues in RF4.
You see this lil green fuck? She's usually the cutest thing ever and then she suddenly goes 100% S A V A G E.
Lost my shit way more than I thought I would.
The DS Castlevanias sound like something you'd enjoy I think. The World Ends With You is amazing, pretty sure that counts as a JRPG.
I Think I've ended up playing more DS games than 3DS games on my 3DS over the last year, so don't ignore the DS library, it has so much fucking good stuff
My favorites were Rune Factory 4, Yokai Watch 2, Animal Crossing, Shovel Knight, Story of Seasons, and Kirby. I don't know how much you'd like them but they're all solid games I played to death. The DS has a lot of excellent games too, so even if you don't find many 3ds titles there's a huge selection otherwise.
Monster hunter 4U will steal about 1000+ hours of your life so you only need that game, 2000+ hours if you wait for MHXX, the next big monster hunter title, also zelda, pokemon, mario and all that nintendo shit that you already know is usually good.
>THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO BOUGHT MONSTER HUNTER ON 2DS
WHY
Jokes on you, I haven't owned one since the N64.
Get one and an R4 DS flashcard, play literally any game in the DS/3DS library that looks remotely interesting to you.
Shovel Knight
MH4U
Xenoblade
If you like traditional rpgs, EO4 and Bravely ___ are fine
What are you, a fucking faggot?
okay? and?
No I just want mates so I can do Friend Safari
kek
>Shovel Knight
Shovel Knight looks pretty cool in 3D, game's definitely worth playing be it on 3DS or otherwise (some versions have little exlusives I think so you may want to look at that)
How do you hack a 3ds? Any suggestions?
If you're on anything lower than 11.3 firmware just follow this TO THE LETTER and you're set. Its fool and brick proof.
3ds.guide
Protip: Have a fairly big SD if you have a lot of digital games you wanna backup and move to the hacked system.
To start; I'd highly recommend to get the XL version (pic related?), also the "New" 3ds if possible (Slightly better processor and controls), if not, then whatever version of the system you can get is fine. Also, this is controversial among some people, but I'd recommend hacking your system, it's really simple to do and there are very little risks. Now, in regards to the games, I'd suggest the following:
Pokemon series (There are plenty of different games, choose whatever suits you better)
Fire emblem Awakening/Fates (Strategy, obviously)
Virtue's Last Reward (This is mostly about puzzles with a decent story attached to it, it's part of a series)
Bravely Default (RPG)
Luigi's Mansion 2 (If you enjoyed the first one, this game is a great sequel)
Phoenix Wright Series (I'd get trilogy if I had to choose)
Thank ye sirrrrrr
No prob. Just take it slow, read everything twice, I'd even suggest making a folder in your PC for all the files you're downloading and read up what it is you're actually using to do stuff to your 3ds. Its overwhelming at 1st but given the perks its well worth. I've done it to 5 3ds already, every model from old to new to 2ds is included on those 5. Never encountered a single problem.
The guide also has a nifty step that will backup your whole system and integrate it into your hacked 3ds. So you'll lose nothing from your legit purchases/save files and you'll gain hackery on 3ds. If you get stuck on something you cant understand no matter how much you read up on, head to /hbg/ on video game generals and ask away. Now go dew it.
