i used to be in the same boat. the truth is outside of some of the disciplines being really fun ideas, the gameplay is pretty fucking garbage and it took me a few times to get into it but if you manage to finish it once you'll end up replaying it every year or so and every time you replay it you'll start appreciating how interesting the quests are designed, atleast for the first 3/4th of the game.
