The beginning looked mediocre but the game got better as it went on. It pushed the amount of polygons on screen, everything was smooth. the game ran at a smooth 60FPS, and it was the completely package. Water looked amazing. Physics with the clothing. It was completely ahead of it's time and played as good as it looked.
Conker's Bad Fur Day comes in a close second because it pushed textures and graphical effects so much. Then Rallisport Challenge 2, which pushed some of the most polygons ever in a game, had vehicle destruction, ran at a smooth 60FPS, had night time racing, and was DICE's last big hurrah.

The nightmare dev story was microsoft made this trailer without the dev teams knowledge and basically had nothing to do with what they were making, yet despite that the trailer captured a lot of what the original was like. It was cool as shit seeing this guy trying to recover his memories with the dust and warping reality around him. Rad ass effects.
i don't remember much of the original's plot but i thought the whole world was basically Edgar's projection after his spaceship traveled through a black hole - so idk how they would have preserved that or if the reboot would have mentioned it.
Would be nice if Microsoft actually followed through with their many game promises for xbox one.
