So, why are people assmad about the Switch dock being mostly empty inside?

So, why are people assmad about the Switch dock being mostly empty inside?

Did they really think there would be an actual separate unit inside it to boost performance? Where the fuck did they get that idea?

>why are people assmad
People are generally dumb.

I guess, but did they really think it would have a separate GPU inside like most reviewers first said? The device was supposed to be the tablet, why even think there's more to it?

Yeah I don't really understand what people thought the dock was going to be besides a glorified HDMI port. The thing doesn't even fully charge the system properly either it seems.

because it serves no purpose but scratches shit up

And you forgot the fact that they charge $90 for new ones.

It's literally a USB-C dongle with a custom handshake.

Like Apple charging for their USB-C dongles, nothing new, just a matter of time until you can buy cheap chinese ones.

cheap plastic

Cheap Chinese ones probably will be better designed to not fuck the screen when you dock it.

the revelation that there isn't any hardware inside means it's a glorified handheld.

it also means that they either will release:
A) Dock 2.0 with hardware inside, which would be to 3ds what 2ds is to it (which is okay)
B) Dock 2.0 as an accessory with supplemental hardware to accomodate the existing handheld (not so okay)

>Where the fuck did they get that idea?
I'll take "a price tag of ninety united states dollars" for 100.

the dock itself was listed as spare part for $60 in nintendos official online store

theyre not mad about it being empty inside. theyre mad that its an empty shell with a usb to hdmi cable for $90

strawmanning faggot

>This is the docking unit of the Nintendo Switch
>It's a literal piece of overpriced fucking plastic

>means it's a glorified handheld
but it was advertised as a glorified handheld in the first place, but with the ability to play with TV in "console mode"

so why are people bitching now?

>So, why are people assmad about the Switch dock being mostly empty inside?
Because they don't understand how electronics work.

Take the actual unit, remove the screen and battery, and you can probably stuff what remains into the dock three times.

>means it's a glorified handheld.

revelation? wtf are you talking about?

why would you think there was some kind of graphics hardware or something in the dock? did you really think that?...

They can't, it's literary USB-C + DP (which also means USB 3.0), to be able to put something like an external GPU inside it, it would have to support ie ThunderBolt, it's not something you can fix in software.

I interpreted the marketing as better performance when docked, i.e. you take it with you play on 720p 30fps, when docked hooks up to hardware accelerator that enables 1080p 60 with better performance.

im pretty sure most people have interpreted that the same as me.

I'll hold off on the switch all togheter because of this, no point in getting it for me if it's "just as shitty" docked as it is when in portable mode.

>with a usb to hdmi cable
kek, is that the tech knowledge of the average Sup Forumstard?

>people saying the dock is sold out
>why the fuck would the dock be sold out

Nintendo knows they fucked up.

the dock itself connects to the switch trough usb-c connector, then to a circuit then hdmi output.

so he is kind of correct.

>I interpreted the marketing as better performance when docked
Anyone who owns a laptop should know how power plans work, it's literary throttling the CPU/GPU when on battery for better battery life, unlocking it to full potential when docked to a power source.

it means USB 3.1 which is 5 GBps, which could actually potentially be used to enhance games, mostly by providing a lot more texture memory.

Still confused why anyone would think there was hardware inside the dock. I'm sorry but you'd have to be a child to think that? Just making shit up in your head...

it's $90 you worthless pathetic retard

but it's not a "cable" the USB-C standard used it USB-C+DP, so it has a DisplayPort to HDMI encoder inside

you don't seem to get the point, the marketing have several times pointed toward BETTER PERFORMANCE with the dock.

key point in marketing the switch is, use as handheld or MORE POWERUL when docked.

the fact that there isn't any hardware in the dock to supplement or accompany the switch makes it worthless, it's the n64 memory upgrade all over again.

>why are people assmad about the Switch dock being mostly empty inside?
Because it costs 90 burgers and it's impossible to make a knock off because lmao algorithm

Haha nintendo fans WILL pay 90$ for a dock and they WILL question YOU for not buying it.
Pathetic.

It doesn't need hardware for that. All it needs is more power - that is, electricity. The marketing pointed towards overclocking the chip. For that, literally all you need is a power connector.

but it _literally_ is more powerful when docked

they already jailbroke the switch, just a matter of time until they can produce fakes with it's proprietary handshake, just a handshake, rest is normal hdmi decoder

not possible, USB 3.1 would still have way to big of a latency to be able to host external video memory, the would just release a revised switch

>The marketing pointed towards overclocking the chip

No, the marketed pointed towards not underclocking the chip

Why didn't they make the dock like this? Why do we have to carefully slide the thing in and out to avoid scratches?

Why even have a dock? Why not just have a box plug?

marketing wise they said nothing wrong, when docked it enables slightly better performance, what is impossible on battery for any meaningful use

That's just a question of where to put the default clock.

Has anyone checked how warm the switch gets in a docked "intensive" gaming session?

ITS A PIECE OF FUCKIN PLASTIC

the dock doesn't add any memory or processing power, it just issues a signal that says "OK, clock the processor to twice the portable framerate". that's it.

with equal power, if a third party figures out the signal, they could make a third party dock that does the same thing.

Because they thought the display would disturb people. So better hide it.

...with a proprietary USB-C dongle

I plan on buying one, so I'm not coming from a position of disliking the switch, but it's only more powerful because the device is purposely underclocked when in handheld mode. Makes sense from a battery life perspective, but the 90$ price tag is way up there for something that should be closer to 50, and even that's pretty high.

>OK, clock the processor to twice the portable framerate
tech illiterates in a tech thread, wew

>Because they thought the display would disturb people
Wahoo-men are surely a delicate kind

Kek

that lowers performance

The display isn't even one when you dock it. Heck the nintendo dock doesn't even fully cover the screen.

actually it does the opposite

But if you use the USB-C charger directly on the Switch it still runs at low speeds?

I wish they would make a charger that unlocks the docked potential in undocked mode while charging, so you could play with the tablet with less frame drops

That would've been perfect and would've solved the kickstand/charging problem when using it at home.

>dock Switch
>Zelda runs at lesser frames

Why is this new console so fucking backwards?

I'm pretty sure they built it like a toaster because it provides stability for the tablet, no chance of it accidentally falling off the dock.

>But if you use the USB-C charger directly on the Switch it still runs at low speeds?
Most likely because it would get too warm otherwise.

>im pretty sure most people have interpreted that the same as me.
Man, I remember wasting time arguing with tech illiterate morons like you who were frothing at the mouth defending the delusion that it would somehow have extra processing power built into the dock which made it run like a current gen console when docked in.
You stupid cunts were the loudest to display your ignorance and how you act as though countless user were explaining exactly how fucking delusional you morons where.

Fucking Nintenbros, man. You manchildren are some of the most arrogant, ignorant cunts on this board who will go to the ends of the earth to avoid admitting fault or error.

>im pretty sure most people have interpreted that the same as me
Nope, only idiots would have though that

>They can't, it's literary USB-C + DP (which also means USB 3.0)
Reference? How do we know the SoC is not Thunderbolt 3? They are using DP 1.2, which is what TB3 supports. USB-C is DP 1.3.

This.

Partially saw off the cover then. Like this

Shit design then

>How do we know the SoC is not Thunderbolt 3
Nvidia ARM SoC.

>They are using DP 1.2
>USB-C is DP 1.3.
Nope. USB-C+DP is DP 1.2 and 1.3, while USB-C+TB is indeed only 1.2
They just use the older USB-C+DP (1.2) because they didn't bother redesigning the SoC that much, it's actually a old piece of shit.

Brilliant user, no seriously. Good design.

stop posting this it looks like ass

Then why not use USB-C+HDMI instead of using an DP-HDMI converter chip? It makes no sense

What?90 dollars? You get one with the switch. Why buy another?

Actually it's free, it comes with the system

>I interpreted the marketing as better performance when docked
Reggie literally went on national TV and said that didn't happen.

I _perfected_ your dock.

I fixed the scratch problem though

because its not designed to be a good console. its designed to be a money printing fad aimed at normalfags, and if that fails, then a big profit margin scam to their loyal fans.

USB-C+HDMI does not support USB in host mode, aka no USB devices to connect

Because people are trying to defend Nintendo by saying the dock is sold out, when Nintendo really pulled it due to defects from always scratching the screen.

>$300
that's where

>Zelda runs at 20 fps when docked

Why didn't they just make this exclusively a handheld?

Because they needed a do-over for the wiiu fail as well as a new handheld.

But how can it be a scam if it's what I've always wanted

Considering the retard Nintendo sycophants on here claimed it was a "hybrid" system (as well as Nintendo themselves), some were thinking the dock may have actually done more than just be a glorified video-out cable.

So they can pretend it's also a (((home console))) and charge stupid amounts of money for the games and hardware.

you have been cucked by big name companies since a kid, no wonder

Switch Deluxe will have thunderbolt and a dock with performance boosting internals. That's why it has all that space inside it right now.

Why didn't they just sell the handheld normally and then sell the dock separately as an actual performance booster for people that want to treat it as a home console?

i'd prefer it add some muscle to the switch to make it look better on screen, but it is what it is.

i'm curious how many of you would buy a new dock if they came out with something like that in the future. Depending on its performance would i purchase it or not.

Kek, sure kiddo

It drops down to 20, rarely, it's 30 fps about 90% of the time.
t.someonewithaswitch

They didn't want the screen to be visible because they didn't want players thinking they needed to be looking at the screen for any reason. More so, I think they wanted to drastically change the look, so that a tablet sitting on a charge dock like the one you pictured didn't look like the Wii U. They are trying to get away from that image, the last thing they want is the Switch to sit on a dock looking Wii U-like.

Because branding matters. Once it's branded as a handheld, the dock can't save it on the fixed console market.

So, that explains the reason they bought the switch in the first place?

will it flop harder than the Wii U or are normies that retarded and LOVE to eat corporate dick?

see apple as an example.

Why doesn't Nintendo just stick with handhelds and leave the console market. Clearly they fucked up and they want to become more like Apple with their iphones and tablets.

Why are they selling them if you don't need one ?

Is there even an option to play it on a TV at 720p instead of 900p just to make sure the framerate stays stable?

Pretty much this. If I were to buy a Switch, I'd probably disassemble the dock and put the components in an external box. At least that way, it wouldn't scratch the fucking screen.

Because the handheld market has no future. The future of the handheld market is being eaten up by smartphones. You may as well go into the highly lucrative mp3 player market.

I wouldn't call it rarely. Any time you're in a place with a lot of grass.

If it doesn't sell more than the views on this vid by the end of the year, it's fucked:

youtube.com/watch?v=Cb-srOfRqNc

>Is there even an option to play it on a TV at 720p instead of 900p just to make sure the framerate stays stable?
Nope, setting the TV to 720p in settings will just downscale 900p to 720p on the TV.

Nintendo really did it this time.

No it's rarely, trust me I've put over 80 hours into the game.

>The future of the handheld market is being eaten up by smartphones.

Nintendo doesn't realize this so they're fucked. The Switch is sandwiched between porper consoles like the PS4/xbone and mobile gaming(which has cheaper games)

>no it tastes salty
>trust me, I'm a faggot

>A) Dock 2.0 with hardware inside, which would be to 3ds what 2ds is to it (which is okay)

So you want a stationary Switch? I can assure you this won't happen. Just like a Joyconless Switch (Nintendo Vita) won't happen.

I was expecting some kind of increased current or increased cooling so that the system could run without being massively underclocked while trying to render while docked

>Did they really think there would be an actual separate unit inside it to boost performance?

Yes?

Absolutely this.
You should be mad about the price, not the tech.

I wouldn't mind having an extra dock in the livingroom.
