Even if Odyssey is good, they still have to fix Metroid and Star Fox before I'd say something like that.

Galaxy 1 + 2 were alright
Sunshine felt like a true 3D Mario to me

It doesn't matter if Sunshine was released rushed
It still left a great impact, better than "R U MR Gay"

Sunshine introduced some cool mechanics to the 3D Mario series but it's not nearly as good as Galaxy or 64. It had some OKAY level design but there were only like, 6 different areas in Sunshine.

We haven't seen nearly enough of the game to jump to that conclusion. Though it does look like the series is finally coming out of its NSMB dark age, which is fantastic.
