I dont get it Sup Forums

I just dont get it.Why didnt this game become as popular a franchise as Fire Emblem for Nintendo. It does what Fire Emblem does, yet better and more stuff.

>excellent gameplay mechanic of puzzles and story
>one of the most atmospheric games ever made, music is calming, terrifying, romantic. All direction is spot on, not also counting the charming expresion artwork
>music is beautiful. Heck, any part of it could blow you away
>plot is fanfuckinstastic. animated scenes, beautiful character development and mystery, some of the best stories I've witnessed, better than my favourite anime, and Ive watched all the top 100 of MAL shit, and any movie
>probably one of the most compelling puzzle games of all time, with perfect loose end tying and completion of emotionally exhausting and tearing stories.

Why is this forgotten?

It was decently popular, we're getting a new game this year.

Would've been more amazing if they didn't do a prequel trilogy. Doesn't have enough waifus, waifu in first three games barely gets screentime!

I do have to agree with OP. This series for me personally is honestly excellent, yet I dont get why it has literally no presence of a community online.

No one talks about this game, it literally doesnt exist.

>this scene is from a ds game
youtube.com/watch?v=Ec2IGCYMeGo

OP, franchise is sadly dead. Layton threads dont even get past 20 replies before archived.

Literally fire emblem isnt even that good, but OH NO NINTENDO WAIFUS, who the fuck cares about character development and unique artistic style to advance a story.

Nintendo pushes it a lot in Europe. The series reached a good conclusion with it's cast + Level-5 wanted to focus more on Yokai Watch I think.

Anyway Layton's daughter is getting a game soon.

I've been playing Miracle's Mask recently. Is it me or are the puzzles easier than usual? I've done around 18 of them and only 2-3 gave me any trouble

Anyways, i remember back then reading a lot about Japan getting additional games that were never getting ported to the west, did that change? Other than the one I'm playing there's only the crossover with Phoenix Wright on the 3DS, right?

ive had people say there too hard. The puzzles havent changed much, your just more experienced, or youve grown smarted the last time you played.

Well, i guess. Must've been 4-5 years since last time i played Layton

after the third game the story started to get boring, after the 4th or 5th game i just gave up on it being good again

Same. I started Lost future after 5 years, and it was considerable easier. still harder later on, but i never truly got stuck anymore.

prequels

>It does what Fire Emblem does, yet better and more stuff.
Are you on crack? Have you ever played either game?

>first game is the only one with good atmosphere and also had more of the most bullshit puzzles
>every other game afterwards gets less bullshit puzzles but always ends in some stupid twist
>story peaks at the 3rd game, every other game is too casual
Level 5 slowly ran it into the ground after 3 desu

> didnt this game become as popular a franchise as Fire Emblem for Nintendo.
because layton wasn't in smash

>Layton isn't in Smash

I fucking need him in smash. He would be perfect along with Phoenix Wright

Sounds like he meant in terms of atmosphere and music? Weird thing to latch onto for a comparison but then the only people who care about FE's gameplay are people who haven't played any other SRPGs to compare it to I suppose.

Honestly, I feel like the games got progressively worse.

Lost Future?

I like FFT and Xcom and also love Fire Emblem so fight me irl fag

>assuming the same doesnt apply to fire emblem

Reminder that Eternal Diva is pure kino

Which reminds me i still have to play Last Spectre, where this glorious faggot appeared first. How do you play DS games on a (hacked) 3DS?

Because puzzle games aren't popular, and never were. Not hard to understand. You can't seriously expect them to compete with genres such as strategy or action in terms of popularity.

3>1>2>REST ARE SHIT

Post riddles.

I do it with an R4 from like 2010.
I think its nice that the game didn't become any more popular, and the reason for that is that puzzles are very very niche.
Also, recommend some puzzle games for DS/3DS anons, what I play the most is picross, sodokus, I already finished all the laytons and I constantly rotate between different forms of tetris.

The Layton market plays room escapes on mobile now.

Except 4 is better than the previous 3 and PoR is better than the GBA games

PoR is cheating since it was made while the GBA games were being made.

I don't understand what you're complaining about. The franchise has like what, 7 games and a movie to its name? Do you think that would've happened if the franchise wasn't at least somewhat popular?

>It does what Fire Emblem does
>gameplay mechanic of puzzles and story
>atmospheric
>plot is fanfuckinstastic
That doesn't sound anything like Fire Emblem you idiot.

It was pretty popular in Europe. I kinda got a bit butthurt over how shitty the final game was to be honest, the constant out of nowhere twists were shit.

PL vs Phoenix Wright was god tier. It's a shame we never got the Sherlock Holmes Spin Off which had the same trial system.

>literally
I don't think you know what that word means

Can I emulate the 3ds games?

No, Citra is garbage and can't run anything at the moment.

I love every layton games equally, with a little award for the one with time machine and eternal diva. The artstyle.. the environment.. the OST.. i fucking loved it.

But you know what i hated? 3D Graphic. You take good, well drawn sprite and replace them with shitty ALIASED AS FUCK 3d models.

lol i have a masters in mathematics

this is a baby game, you kids have fun

Do you actually like puzzles user?

>The game series' developer and publisher Level-5 has stated that they wished to release a Professor Layton film every winter
w-where are the other movies

didn't mean to quote

>tfw you overthink a Layton puzzle and the real answer was the "wait this was too simple that can't be right there has to be more to this" one.

LOL

I can answer the OP.

I'm playing Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, my first Layton game.
I'm a little over half done with the game.

>I hate having to click all over the screen and don't understand the point of hiding puzzles like this.
Why can't I just have a list.

>The story really is pretty bad, but more importantly the plot doesn't even tie in to the puzzles.
I'll talk to you if you solve a puzzle. What? Am I in puzzle town?

>The puzzles
They are either too easy or try to trick you. For example one puzzle told you to figure out how many people were in line, when you can only see foots and heads. But it was such a poor quality picture I couldn't tell what was a leg or a line. I have yet to find a single puzzle that was truly logical and make me want to solve them. Lot of stuff is just random, like move this column or turn these from black to white. You do the combinations and solve it. That isn't a puzzle that uses my brain. The puzzles are more like tasks. After doing 50 of these puzzles I can only hope they get better, because I despise this game.

>tfw my DS won't charge anymore

What's the best DS emulator around? I got the urge to replay these now.

Just replace the battery.
>inb4 muh tri-wing screws

It's not the battery, it's the charger port that's broken.

meant for So I found like 10 DS emulators? is DeSmuNE good?

>it's a slide puzzle

There's only 2 for PC. Try both of them and then you tell us.

Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright it's an extreme case of this. You know a story twist has unbelievable levels of fuckery if the best explanation could have been the use of magic

>is DeSmuNE good
No, just fix the charging port.

Specter is unfortunately the worst game in the series.

Also it's not forgotten so much as the 3DS wasn't as much of a hit as the DS, so Level 5 killed the franchise.

Layton vs Wright is one of the best AA games and an okay Layton game.

I think it was doing pretty well for itself considering it was the reason the crossover with Ace Attorney got a physical release in the west at all. Ace Attorney can't even get that much on its own, let alone every game localized.

>It does what Fire Emblem does, yet better and more stuff.
No

FE has more waifus end of discussion

Is there a specific order I should play these games in, or are they self-contained?

At least we're getting all the Prof Layton games because Level-5 are the shit.

Capcom REFUSES to release the GOOD Ace Attorney games by Shu Takumi.

Instead, we got Dual Destinies which was an uphill battle to read through.

>the answer to this puzzle is 4
>mfw
>hesitate but type in the answer "4"
>wrong
>try to think this over, it's pretty simple

>What? Am I in puzzle town?
Well you are in the first game.
>The story really is pretty bad
I "mostly" agree with you about mask of miracle, "mostly" because I liked it. But I already loved the characters from the previous games so I was blinded then, not now.
And yeah, I agree that as games went on they got worse, in mask of miracle's case they had too much trial and error bullshit.

desmume is top tier

It's two trilogies, the second one in release order is a prequel series
As long as you play the games inside each trilogy in order you should be able to play whatever one you want first

Release order.

I honestly have no clue why this kid is with me who isn't mine or why I'm not banging the assistant. Frankly the best part of the game for me was contemplating who slept in each of the two beds in the hotel room.

So Luke is the mother, right?

layton fucked flora, luke took care of traumatized flora, cant convince me otherwise

3 > 1 > 2 >>> prequel trash

Am I wrong on this?

Ok Sup Forums which versions of the games should I replay? The US or the EU ones?

Fact of the matter is most people don't like walls of text and most people don't like puzzles. Mixing the two was never going to work out

us one is better, sounds more like a child

Some puzzles are unfair as fuck.

How should I know?

whats the answer

Played the first two, when are these supposed to get good?

A-E
this is easy as shit compared to a lot of other puzzles

A and E?

Let me guess, its any tree in the lineup and any tree from the ones in the background

Prequels weren't always terrible
3>1>2>6>5>4

Eternal Diva can't be ranked like his but fuck what I would do for another film in the Layton style. I love shit like this and Triplets of Belleville

...it's not A-E?

Well there is a chance that you may like the third, but if you didn't like the first two that's probably not the case.

It's hard because you assume the trees must be adjascent, when the riddle does not tell you so.

A-E, it's a trick puzzle and the answer requires you to be a smartass

Love the series with all my heart but this was a fucking horrendous puzzle

It made me so mad when I was little

>there was supposed to be a Layton film each year
just kill me now

puzzle design is harder than map design

...

What the fuck how was an adjacency rule implied at all? Brainlets I swear to god

>Trick

How is it a trick, that seems like an obvious answer.

Description: Train stations are an especially good place for dramatic farewells, aren't they? Below is a picture of a man and woman bidding each other a tearful goodbye. Somewhere in this picture is a single unrealistic detail. Find and circle that unusual area.

he's almost right, the puzzle designer is the one being a smartass. it's a timewaster puzzle trying to get you to second guess yourself

la luna

But I don't understand. A and E very obviously have the most space between them. What thought process do you have that makes you think otherwise?

the one where you've played other puzzles in the game where the obvious answer wasn't correct.

Did they ever show what happened to Luke after he moved away? I only played up to the 5th game.

its tricking you. you overthink everything but the answer can only be a-e

I thought Specter was one of the best honestly.

Is it really that the moon doesn't actually look like that?
I swear to god, Layton

Why not make it "no one's jaw actually looks like the uniformed man's" at that point, my god

hes opening the window fully. Amirite?

Well done, user

>It is unlikely there will be a Layton film ever again
Eternal Diva was Sonic OVA tier in terms of good vidya film

>captcha: LONDON

Just because Fire Emblem is more popular with weabos on the internet, doesn't mean it's more popular with real people in real life. I barely hear or see anything about Fire Emblem here in the UK, but Layton was pretty popular.
