Do you think the PC verison will be able to get level mods?
Also I think I want to buy a Switch copy in addition to the PC version.

That's be nice
Also we better get a release date tomorrow
Do you think that, since it's based on the Sonic Retro engine, someone will be able to take the open source Sonic Retro engine port for the Dreamcast and port this game to the Dreamcast?
I'd like to see that happen (this could definitely fit on a CD, I only expect it's about 400 or so MB) but that seems a bit lofty. You don't know how the engine has changed in that timeframe.
It should, but then again what did we get for Sonic CD?
That game is already using the Retro Engine.
let them make an android version so i can use it on the go with this bad boy.
Just use a Switch.
I read that as
>Do you think the PC verison will be able to get lewd mods?
and I was disappointed but not surprised
I don't think it's a case of an inability to hack the retro engine, but rather that the majority of high-level Sonic hackers don't want to crack the engine out of respect for Taxman and Stealth.
I'm pretty sure the graphics code has been rewritten for the Retro Engine multiple times. At this point I doubt it's compatible with the dreamcast anymore, but for that matter the game is designed for 16:9 so playing Mania in 4:3 would be a disservice to the game anyway. Maybe it could be done but I doubt it will be.
no
I doubt the game will be ported to mobile though, suit yourself.
>the majority of high-level Sonic hackers don't want to crack the engine out of respect for Taxman and Stealth.
That would be a shame. No one had any restrictions when they raped Generations and Unleashed to make custom levels and shit for them. It's not like they will be releasing its source code or anything.
no
>Good Sonic games are coming back to Nintendo consoles
Fucking wild, man
Understanding the sprite tables could be useful too, either for dumping the sprites or injecting your own.
They definitely will be able to, Sonic CD has very little but it does have a couple things:

I think the problem was lack of interest surprisingly for Sonic CD, since it was a re-release of an older game (even if it was remade) no one bothered to do much with it. All we have to worry about is if anyone would be interested in Mania and with how popular the game has gotten I could see it happening a decent amount.
Well, I'm only guessing that is a part of it. There's also the fact that, by virtue of being smaller indie programmers, Taxman and friends program and encrypt things in an entirely different manner to a company like Sega themselves, so there's not really much skill crossover, if you know what I mean. So skills from hacking Generations cross over to Unleashed for example, and skills from hacking Sonic 2 cross over into Sonic 1, 3K and CD, but the retro engine is a whole different kettle of fish entirely separate from the rest. Plus Stealth was one of the best 2D Sonic hackers in the first place and I very much doubt he's going to be hacking his own game so they're already one wiz-kid down.
With that said, it's not like it HASN'T been done - there are some hacks of Taxman's Sonic CD, I think I saw one with a playable Metal Sonic.
>that Green Hill mod
DUDE
WEED
LMAO
Sega made the original Sonic compatible with Steam Workshop, didn't they? They should really allow this game to be as well.
Legit headache from that GHZ demo, what the fuck.
They didn't make it compatible, they allowed people to upload romhacks made with fan made tools to the workshop
Yeah, it was bothering me a bit also, it was the only thing to come to mind though when it comes to examples of modifications to the game.
Christ, what is that ungodly thing?
>Mfw tomorrow is when we get more news for Mania & Project 2017
What a slow day today is.
I hope 2017 isn't literally just Generations 2.
As much as I don't think they should do it I'd be lying if I didn't say I wouldn't want it, I had a lot of fun with Generations.
Hahaha. I'm gong to get it on the PC and then play it on my main PC and my GPD Win.
Completed Freedom Planet on my Win. Was a great experience.
I'm honestly hoping they announce a downloadable demo.
All I want is an Amy mod with her moveset from the romhacks.
The Metal Sonic mod looks neat but it being a simple character skin, I doubt that required much work.
That Green Hill one my fucking eyes.
Yeah, the point is though you can modify the level layout & sprites with enough hard work. If there were dedicated people I could see multiple fan made levels be a thing.
Hopefully, to be honest I wish every fan project out there would just move to Retro Engine hacking. Why even bother with individual/independent engines now?
I know Taxman said CD would be getting levels but this quote
makes it seem that CD would only be getting minor fanservice.
...
He might have just worded it poorly then. This does make me wonder though how many references to Knuckles Chaotix there might be. So far the only reference is the Combi-Ring being brought back.
Knuckles' climbing animation is clearly derived from Knuckles Chaotix.
Not a big deal but it's a thing.
I'm personally expecting 7 old zones and 5 old zones. The 7 old zones would be split up as follows
>2 Sonic 1 stages
>2 Sonic 2 stages
>2 S3K stages (one for each half)
>1 Sonic CD stage
The thing is, I can't see them NOT putting a Sonic CD stage in. Taxman and friends are all jerk off over Sonic CD and technically CD was what let Taxman get his foot in the door with Sega in the first place so I'm sure he'll want to pay homage in some way, but Sega's marketing department probably want to play up the core Genesis games much more because, let's face it, not many people played Sonic CD until it came out on collections and re-releases. It doesn't have the same value in their eyes as 1, 2 and 3, despite still being a solid game.
A Chaotix stage would be the tits but is probably a pipe dream.
S3K stages (one for each half)
I want Sonic and Knuckles to get two stages. Flying Battery and Lava Reef deserve it
To be fair, I'm pretty sure Aaron Webber doesn't actually know MUCH more about Sonic Mania than we do. It's not like he's part of the development team, he's just the social media manager and shows up to the booth events and whatnot. He probably gets the same news and demos as we do, only he gets it a month or two in advance so he can prepare his social media approach to it. He didn't even seem to be able to say for sure whether the game is compatible with the Switch's pro controller or not.
So, for example, he knows what announcements are coming at the SXSW event, but he doesn't necessarily know all of the content planned for the final game - only the Mania team, Lola Shiraishi, and Iizuka have full knowledge of that.
That's my guess anyway.
>not getting it on PC, PS4, Switch as well as the CE
Are you even trying?
Hydrocity deserves it more than Lava Reef.
Well that's Sonic 3, not Sonic and Knuckles
why not use a switch?
>Buying a 470 AUD dollar Vroom In The Night Sky machine.
Maybe he wants a portable version but isn't willing to buy a Switch due to no money/no confidence in the quality of the product/not interested in any other games on the Switch/etc.
Those are valid reasons.
>hey Macfags, can your windows do THIS
Sure, but I'm just trying to think of things realistically here. The devs only have so much development time. Sonic 1 and 2 will obviously get the most pandering because they sold the best, they were the most widely played. It just doesn't seem realistic to me for Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles or Sonic CD to get more than one stage each.
Hell, I'd love to be proven wrong. Ideally the game would have something like 10 revisit zones and 9 new zones, but that sure-as-shit isn't happening so I'm trying to keep my expectations in check.
Hey bunny.
All it needs to be is Generations 2 but with actually good physics for classic Sonic and original levels.
I'm fairly sure that's exactly what it is supposed to be, although Iizuka has said something about there being a third gameplay style to accompany the two we have
Best case scenario: Adventure Sonic, or Tails/Knuckles. Worst case scenario: Boom Sonic
Yeah, I'm still curious what this third gameplay component is supposed to be. Project 2017 is also supposed to introduce a new character, wonder if it's gonna be a one off, playable good guy, or antagonist?
