i'm stuck at the portal bit on the ds version, it's just loops forever
Get a better version. That happens to some pirated roms.
It happens to all of them
The ending theme still gives me feels.
Maybe when Chrono Break comes out in 40 years.
I hope I live long enough...
Which one?
Dark Souls was 6 years ago
The Reptite ending was always the most interesting one to think about. It kind of sucks that they chose this awesome thread to expand for Chrono Cross and botched the shit out of it.
Chrono Trigger music thread?
There is a rom hack called "Crimson Echoes" that plays with reptite theme way better than Cross.
FUCK!! Never noticed that before
Thank you for the tip, user!
Is it nostalgia faggotry to miss Squaresoft?
No. They've been fucking it up by all objective metrics for a decade at least.
They couldn't make movies successfully, so they turned their successful game series into a bullshit teenage drama that releases a new season every few years. And then they realized they fucked up their games by ditching their old fans, so they've tried to make cheap imitations of their great old games on modern handhelds.
Bravely Default was shit.
Thank fuck Dragon Quest is still decent.
Get "Flames of Eternity" version. It fixes majority of CE bugs and writing errors
Any future updates planned?
Square Enix is japanese EA. This is why Chrono Break will never happen.
Last update was in September 27, 2015. So I guess they abandoned it.
Nah, combat gets boring rather quickly, like with all jrpgs.
not even the best jrpg
>dark souls
>jrpg
are you retarded
Is it not a japanese roleplaying game?
roll =/= role
>made in japan
>character has stat growth
????
that section where you go fight cyrus in the haunted mansion was lit
No, it's a roleplaying game made in Japan. Just because it was made in JP doesn't make it a JRPG-- it was very clearly made in the style of western RPGs and it shows.
>rollplaying
my sides have ascended
>a roleplaying game made in Japan
So it's a jrpg.
No. The "J" in JRPG stands for "just like my animes"
"No"
Honestly enjoyed Cross more. Trigger just felt a bit more generic in terms of story and gameplay. Before you try to argue with me though, it is purely opinion based so don't get your panties all twisted up. Maybe I just played/watched too many games that did things similarly, but better in my opinion, while I missed out on some of the shit that is more similar to Cross. Maybe that isn't it and my tastes are just different than yours.
Cross' story is better but it's lacking in the character department, it's also longer with the quality staying consistently good throughout.
Trigger is a more generic Toriyama story, but it has better characters and superior combat. It's shorter but it's amazing all the way through. Overall I like Trigger better but I can see why one might like Cross better for its story.
3 months after it was released.
It's the first game that comes to mind when asked the question "if you could play one game for the first time again what would it be?"
I see why people like CC, but for me it was just too slow paced and boring. Almost every NPC either infodumps his life story on me or tries to give me philosophy lecture.
>made in japan by japanese devs
>meets every single requirement for rpg
>role playing out the ass
>REEEEEEE IT CANT BE AN RPG BECAUSE THERES ACTION IN IT REEEE
Pure
Unadulterated
Autism
Honestly, I feel like I'm all or nothing with character development. Either it needs to be amazing, or I'm going to ignore it, unless it is unacceptably horrible then I can't ignore it. Both games were incredibly lacking to me so I didn't pay as much attention to character development. TLoU is an example of something so horrible that I couldn't ignore it. Especially since everyone bragged so much about the horrendous character development, but that is another story that I don't feel the desire to get into Shouldn't have even brought it up but it just pisses me off so damn much....
As far as combat, Cross seems to get more hatred than it deserves. Just about every game in history seems to have an issue where combat CAN be dumbed down. Even people's precious action/ARPG games have this very same problem. Cross's battle system seemed to have enough flexibility to have some fun with though, which is what really matters to me.
I just hope some people have enough sense to know that their favorite game is not definitively better than another person's favorite game. If that wasn't the case, then clearly Final Fantasy Tactics is obviously the best game of all time. Seriously though I would love to see some more tactic games that have some sort of difficulty, a story that isn't too anime esque, and make use of your characters location AND timing. My only saving grace is that I haven't actually played through Tactics Ogre yet, but that is because the story felt too heavy on the political side at the time. Hopefully I just wasn't in the mood for it at the time.
read the replies moron
it's just not a *J*RPG
It's a western RPG
>Best game ever
>When every fight after the mid point is a brainless spamfest of your strongest ability
It's good, but hardly the best
Did you do the characters' side quests in Trigger? That's where the good character development come in.
Robo changes quite a lot as a character when you have him tend fields in 400 AD and then meet him again in 1000 AD and he's still doing it.
Not even the best RPG on the SNES.
Please don't start this argument. Half of us refer to JRPG as a Japanese Role Playing Game, while the other half refer to it as a Japanese Styled Role Playing Game. I'm turning 30 this year, and have seen it used to refer to games that came from Japan for most of my life, while I have met people that seem to have had an opposite experience. We all didn't grow up together user, so clearly our definition of things may differ. Just move on and learn to accept that JRPG will be used both ways.
no JRPG will surpass it, though I loved the shit out of secret of evermore since I was a kid
>a game from Sup Forums's most hated genre
>good
Fuck off, polished turd at best.
Honestly I'm starting to get to the point where I've played some of these games so long ago that my memories of them are fading into obscurity. Trigger is on my list of games that need to be replayed, along with FFV and VI, Legend of Legaia, and even some games I haven't even played yet.
Grab or emulate the DS version, it's 30 hours tops if you do all the sidequests and take for-fucking-ever.
>roll=/=role
alright that was a good one user
I thought it was assfaggots
At least ASSFAGGOTS didn't perpetually set gaming back to the fucking Stone Age where it will never progress and become a legitimate artform.
>thinking menu selecting simulators are anything but a blight to entertainment that need to be purged
There's a reason we all play WRPGs.
>western
>made in the east
>uses eastern motifs and themes in the story
I cant tell if this is bait or if half the people on this board are so autistic they think something has to have an anime style to be a jrpg.
>jrpg stands for japanese role playing game
>dark souls is a japanese role playing game
Q.E.D.
...
why is the entire soundtrack in chrono trigger so fucking incredible
