Fighting robots in this game is truly unlike any of it's peers, the game has human enemies and it really made me feel like i could never go back to open world games with just human type enemies ever again

The game fixes the core issue of open world games by making combat not shit. I don't generally like sandboxes and I wouldn't really categorize HZD as one either. It is story driven game and the open world is only an alternative to traditional chapter or level progression, just like geargating works in games like Legacy of Kain and Darksiders.

Does the combat ever evolve beyond what's shown in gameplay videos?
I've heard great things about it but every video I've seen just looks like kind of the same mechanics with some slight differences.

I only ever use my Vita. I have a PS3 and PS4, but both systems only have 6 titles owned together from me.

Meanwhile Sony says I put in over 6700 hours on my Vita so far. I expect that shit to grow into five digits before I even begin thinking about using my Switch/3DS again or playing my PS4 for longer than an hour.

The videos don't do the combat justice. I felt the same as you did for when I watched IGN and a couple ofnotrht reviews.

In the videos, the bow didn't SEEM impactful like Dragon's Dogma's bow skills and Aloy's constant frog dodging seemed a bit too much.

But actually playing it is a different beast altogether. The bow mechanics feel right and its immensely satisfying when you use your rope tools and traps to down a huge robot.

Combat vs human enemies have been pretty mediocre so far though, not sure if it changes later on as I'm still playing
