Did someone say thrifting?!

>see ps1 at thrift store
>very few blemishes
>ask guy if it works
>"no clue"
>only five bucks, buy it anyway
>works flawlessly
it was a good day

Haven't had much luck at thrift stores, garage sales are where it's at for me, this is my haul from a few years ago.

This is why I always buy the untested systems. Unless it was something known for breaking really easily 99% of the time the staff were just too lazy to plug in 10 N64s or something and make sure they all worked.

>Mary Kate and Ashley Sweet 16
And is that Bad Boys Miami Takedown I see?
Fuck yeah

All the time
>tfw found good condition MGS1 and FF7 for PS1, 5€ each
>tfw Zelda Collection box for GC for mere tenner
>Gamecube, two pads, memory card, NFS game and random 16-bit era controllers for 30€

I got Gamecube Twilight Princess and Ico for $5 each one time.

Fun to look, but mostly disappointment

>tfw bought a ps2, 4 controllers, memory cards, and 50 games for 60 bucks 2 years ago at a thrift store
>tfw I sold it all last year and regret it

Garage sales are the best.
There's always parent's selling their kid's stuff for being a shithead.

Not quite thrift stores but I do keep an eye out for deals at resale places like V-Stock and this one bookstore my mom showed me over the holidays.
I actually got pic related from the latter for nothing (traded in some old irrelevant 360 games like GTAV)

All thrift stores in my area keep most vidya in a case because people steal them and are overpriced. The only ones out in the open are usually 20 versions Madden.

I try to find the occasional game to resell when I visit a thrift store.

Don't go to Goodwill though, they sell Nintendo games at overhyped nostalgiafag market prices.

Not anymore, I've given up on collecting for the most part.

Really gave up on looking for games because most of the time it's sports shovelware and if it's any good, I already have it.

My thing now in thrift stores are records. I got the soundtrack for Cosmos for $0.50 and it plays flawlessly.

Went to goodwill
Saw Jet Set Radio Future
Remembered my FUCKING LEAF buddy was looking for it and didnt have the money
Bought it for 6 bucks
Shipped it out to the fucker
He's been a happy FUCKING LEAF ever since.

JSR > JSRF

My area is completely combed over by resellers. A couple times I've been able to pick up stuff on craigslist, mostly because it's expensive enough that the resellers won't be able to turn it over quickly(I got a copy of EVO for about 140USD, which).

Currently seeing if I can repair a copy of Super Noah's Ark that I got for 30 bucks because it's broken.

Yeah but most of it is just sports shit or shovelware

Where did he go?

In the early 2000's Id go to every cash converters I could every few weeks

They had no idea how much some of their games were worth. Managed to fill out my Snes collection nicely

>Tfw they sold me Smrpg for 16 Canadian loonies

I hate these threads because all these bullshit stories about insane deals makes me feel cucked because they don't exist here.

Occasionally, when I'm already there for some reason. I'm never happy with what I find.

It doesn't bother me so much anymore because I recently learned that there's a retro video game store not too far from where I live. It was really something else and I plan on going back there soon.

Meh, used to but I discovered GOG for older games.

>tfw discovered medal of honor allied assault in thrift shop get it then a year or 2 later GOG has it

I got a DS3 in great condition for three bucks a couple months ago.
Depends on the goodwill. The one near me has vidya at very reasonable prices. The only way you'll get gouged is if you try to buy on the auction site where nostalgiafags are 100% guaranteed to drive up the price.

I wish resellers would die.

>you are now reading this in his smooth, sultry voice

Cash Convertors are literally retarded.

Saw this gem a few months ago. I do a lap of the charity shops/trade in places every couple of months, usually find at least a couple of things worth picking up. I found an old warez CD last year, now that's the kind of shit you don't see every day, really took me back.

The deals exist they just get snapped up by people who resell the games. If you are willing to trawl every garage sale in your area, and figure out when your thrift shops restock you'll get some of them. But that's a lot of time to spend. For me it's worth it to just by them at or slightly below value instead of hunting.

It also pisses me off too because I live in the LA area with the stores picked clean but go visit family up in Portland, Oregon and they have all the deals I hear in these threads. I bought a SNES cart with the label torn off for $1 and it turned out to be Yoshi's Island.

How's the used game market now? I haven't checked in like 5 years. Which system is the most expensive to collect for now?

Thrift stores are garbage now, thanks to everyone basing their prices off eBay. I've very rarely seen a Gamecube title, complete or not, for less than 15 bucks.

>Got to local thrift store.
>End up seeing a copy of Earthbound and Kirby's dreamland 3.
>They were 150 each.
Why did these guys have to learn about ebay inflation.

They're all overpriced. Auction and storage tv shows have made everyone think that anything old is worth hundreds of dollars.

Not since places like goodwill caught on, and started selling that shit online. Got a copy of HM64 and Super Mario Sunshine for 4 bucks about 2 years ago

Still the best find.

Childhood is when you collect physical media. Adulthood is when you realize digital is superior in every aspect.

Never had much luck. Found a couple of PS2 controllers once, but that's it. I usually only find shovelware and sports games if anything. Recently i saw a NES in one but it had no cables or controller and was broken in multiple places. Saw a copy of Timesplitters for the PS2 and while i think it's a liked enough game i didn't care

I had no idea until last year that goodwill had an online site. I'd always wondered why I saw less and less high ticket items in there and it turns out they just ship most of the good stuff to certain locations to be sold online.

Here's your (You), but you better work a little harder for the next one.

PS2 is everywhere, area I live in doesn't have fuck all for old vidya other then the shady pawn shops and even here the secondhand (nonpawn) shops have a good circulation of ps2 and they sell ps2 games at reasonable rates like 4 or 5 dollars like your buying old games on GOG/steam. Also ps2 slims have been produced the most of all older systems and are really easy to crack open and repair/clean. Also you can network load games on ps2's which preserves the system even better then using a HDD to load ISOs from the internet

Reminder that you don't own the games on your Steam account

>went to used video game store today
>hoping to find some classic Game Boy vidya that I might've missed
>bare Pokemon GB carts for $40-$50

I never really find anything decent in big places like Savers/Goodwill. Smaller places are usually a better bet. I found a PSOne last year for 5 bucks in some tiny place near the beach. Cleaned it up, worked perfect.

Nothing is really cheap to collect for anymore except for Playstation and Xbox.

As far as games you are likely to actually have played if you owned the system as a kid, SNES is the worst.

I bet you collect anime figurines as well.

I tried but I can only find outdated football games.

>pay the same price for digital
>Cant sell your games later on
>Can't play digital if the servers go down

Nah

I collect Roman coins.

Pokemon games are always overpriced in stores because they are popular with people who don't collect games and don't know values.

There's no reason for a store to put Pokemon Blue at it's correct price when someone who doesn't know better will come in and pay 50% more eventually.

Playstation/Xbox/Sega are all a lot easier to find decent deals on. Retro Nintendo still holds a lot of value because the IPs are still out there in the public mind.

This actually has some good stu-
>sex monopoly
what

Probably because the batteries used to store saves in the carts are dead and those ones are fixed so people artificially raise the prices. I've repaired my pokemon crystal cart, it's easy, what I used:

>a 5-10 dollar solder kit from walmart
>a special bit to open the cart
>a replaceable battery that you can get from walmart/internet

That's easily 20 dollars of tools/parts so thats why they raise the prices.

Picked up TP on Gamecube for 40 bucks in what I'd call 'like new' condition.

I think I made a good buy.

Some guy is selling me a Wii with the controller for 25 bucks on CL. Wish me luck, guys.

I collect them digitally

Lube up that anus m8.

Ever since goodwill started putting jew prices on their games, no. The last thrift store game I bought was Luigi's Mansion for $10 though.

collecting anime figures actually makes more sense as unlike a fucking game cartridge they have aesthetic value when on display and you can almost always re-sell them for at least 50% of the original price if you get bored of them as production is usually limited to a single run. I have a Tomoko figure that I didn't even open because she's a shit and it's worth like 4x the amount I paid for it 3 years ago.

I'm wearing my chastity belt for extra security

Thrift shop in town just closed up, used to hire specifically hyper-autists in order to give 'em a stable job, so the community isn't too happy about that, they're blaming Wal-Mart for that.
Pulled cheap as shit copies of Thousand Year Door and Luigi's Mansion out of it, Billy Hatcher too, but I didn't really care for that. Not much vidya in there after, only place I got now is a "retro" shop that overprices everything and sells shovelware everyone had.

Last good thrift haul I got was from a 3 for £15 offer on PS2 games in some UK media store

Got;
>World War Zero
>Transformers
>Kuri Kuri Mix

I've had them years and yet to play em

I haven't been to one in a long time. Last time I remember going to one was when I was a teenager. Ended up buying Lords of Magic: SE which turned out to be a badass game.

Anyone have a Play N Trade near them?
>go when it first opens
>get Kanto and Jhoto Pokemon games for $12 each
>Vagrant Story for $20
>go a few years later
>all the used games are shovelware
I shouldn't have been surprised.

Yes i went to one like a week ago, sometimes i find rare playstation games, this time i got tomb raider rise, witcher 3 and DmC for 40 burger tickets, all for xbox one though but it's ok since i got memed into buying one for master chief collection (which ended up being dogshit and pointless since my 360 still works and i have all the games there) and i'd rather give the console some use no matter how little before it collects too much dust and dies miserably.

Tomb raider is ok, i hated the story and how the bow shits on absolutely everything, no need for the pistol with a silencer if going for stealth headshots when normal and fire arrows are fatal, go through armor and helmets waaaay earlier than the pistol and doesn't need an attachment to be silent, you thought a silenced assault rifle with scope, underslung grenade launcher and large magazine was a good choice for the few times they swarm you from all sides? Nope, it's useless, a single AoE poison arrow can kill 8+ guys without having to actually aim, no point on using the shotgun either since explosive arrows fully kill armored enemies/knights with a direct shot instead of knocking off pieces of armor, the downside is collecting materials but a quick trip to syberia with the double gathering skill and you're fully restocked in 3 minutes.

DmC is just as terrible as everyone says, at least i got to enjoy the spanish voices since i'm a spic.

I couldn't stand Witcher 3, the constant framerate drops and shitty textures on some places didn't help, maybe in 10 years with a powerful PC i'll give it a chance, still not a total loss since i can trade this game for basically anything i want.

Trade them in to GameStop, maybe you'll get $15 store credit.

I love him so

>No big thrift stores around
>the few small ones only have shovelware
>no garage sales either
>fleamarkets are the the only option
>95% of """games""" are sports and shovelware
>the few decent games there are, are usually freakishly overpriced

>SOFTREM BOUBLER FOR WINDOWS
Not sure which is funnier, the typo or the fact that they included SoftRAM, the "RAM doubler". Literally the Download more RAM meme of the 90's

I bought a guy's collection that his mom was selling. The guy was "around my age" and out at a convention.

I'm excited just looking at it

thrift stores? not so much

occasionally I get some good deals from gamestops/other buy/sell/trade places

got mgs2 substance for xbox for $2, rule of rose for $100, and a couple other neat deals

> can't ever make the regretful decision of selling your digital games for a few bucks

I find stuff all the time. My friends dad goes to garage sales and flea markets all the time for /k/ stuff and goes all over town for them. Got some fucking sweet deals that way. Best way is to work at goodwill and be the guy picking stuff up by the people dropping them off and look for the games and kinda steal them when nobody is looking. Some fag here did that and got a collection that I would kill for.

i do a round every so often to see if anything good is about but either someone gets to this shit first or i got all the good stuff thats been sitting in there for ages because i haven't had a good find in a while

>I bought a guy's collection that his mom was selling. The guy was "around my age" and out at a convention.
In other words, you're a dick and he has shitty parents.

Are you stupid?
How is that guy a dick?

I only find sports games now. It's sad.

yeah, you have to be a real shitty parent to put up with your grown up child still living with you

How is that being a dick?

More like he's a piece of shit neet and the money he lost isn't a fraction of what he would actually be paying if he rented a place and bought his own food.

moot did the same thing but with anime. I don't hear you calling him a faggot.

Whose moot?

t. merch cuck

The guy who runs that anime imageboard site better than the gook in charge now.

False

what a rip off

Oh no, I bought some stuff that the mom wanted to get rid of. I don't see how that's being a dick.

Are you that guy? Please tell me you're him, it would make my day to know he browses Sup Forums.

What'd you get?

Where you from? There's always garage sale signs during Spring around here.

I go through the dumpsters of Gamestops to find good loot. You ever see those vids of those guys? One of them is me

semi work at "drift store". rarely any games but usually just don't pay for those. or just waste few cents.

Well, I got my Wii with my ass unharmed but he didn't include a sensor bar.

>mfw

You let him bamboozle you.

After watching his Need for Speed video, I want to protect his smile.

Ahahahah btfo'd

You can use small flash lights or candles.

Which is why Miyamoto's wiimote was wonky during that E3 presentation, too many camera flashes.

wait really?

I haven't been able to find anything cool at all in thrift stores for years, it's nothing but clothes, silverware & computer desks. They don't even accept old TVs anymore so you gotta get a CRT from somebody you know now.

Oh yeah all the time. Living in the south is great for thrifting cause' the people who price games don't know what they're worth half the time. My favorite is walking away with boxed Genesis games being charged as 50 cent VHS tapes. PS1 games for for $1 rung up as CD's.

Yeah, the sensor shine small light on each side and that's what the wiimote picks up.

It's being a dick because the guy wasn't selling the games himself, his mom was without his permission.

You're a cocksucker for buying games from her knowing that. What you should have done was get into contact with her son to tell him what was going on.

How would you like it if someone you knew was selling your shit from under you?
