it also reminds me of Sonic Unleashed

I really want to be hyped but I just don't get the appeal.
that is because you never played Sonic Colors or Sonic Unleashed
>I-I swear I'm a sonic fan but I'm not hyped xD I swear I even own every sonic game ;D
I'm going to keep my opinions to myself.
Environment looks neat. Gameplay and level design look boring.
I wonder what Sega's reaction will be when Mania ends up getting better reception than a game they spent almost four years developing.
Hoping that's just an early build because honestly it looks like one of those unity fan-games.
But FUUUUUCK
youtu.be
>Gameplay and level design look boring.
That's the exactly same gameplay of Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors.
What would you think they could include so the game is not "boring" ?
>Mania ends up getting better reception
Sonic 3D Games are 7~8/10, they are never going to compete with classic Sonic. I mean this is not news I'm not sure why you are still comparing Mania to this one.
Are you an obsessive retard when it comes to indies or 2D games?
It looks like Sonic Generations.
No more, no less. It's like Generations Crisis City.
>Sonic 3D Games are 7~8/10, they are never going to compete with classic Sonic. I mean this is not news I'm not sure why you are still comparing Mania to this one.
Well at SOME point most people would stop settling for a series that can't seem to do better for itself with each attempt.
So this is what they choose to represent their upcoming title.
That looks lame as fuck, the literal only good part is the homing attack animation, looks like it has some nice impact.
Everything else from level design, world design, music, seriously, just generic guitar and drum riffs, don't even fit the level, completely drowned out by sound effects and blaring sirens, sounds, other animations, particle effects, just seems lazy and slapped together as fuck. Like every other Sonic game the last 8 years.
Im more talking stuff like the boost animation and the explosions, it looks really off
>Sonic Forces
rape culture at it again, huh
I remember Generations looking and sounding a lot better.
That start to his run animation and the particle effects when he runs are just laughable.
Because the three console Sonic games before 2008 were so worth playing.
>Wisps
Dropped like a fucking rock
Why don't you go back to your waifu threads or talking about Mass Effect?
Even better, type /r/Games/ in your address bar and stay there.
They were at least different games.
This could very easily be a mod for the pc version of Sonic Generations that uses the Unleashed levels.
Why is everything blowing the fuck up?
>I wonder what Sega's reaction will be when Mania ends up getting better reception than a game they spent almost four years developing.
Kinda anticipating the reaction too. I think they purposely have the 3D game coming out just to see what fans want the most: a 2D game, or a 3D game. And whichever gets the most reception, that will be what they will concentrate on making more of next.
>poor animations for building up initial momentum
>only shown gameplay is boost to win on a linear path
Looks good but not great, like Generations
>That start to his run animation and the particle effects when he runs are just laughable.
Dark and edgy again, probably the one exciting thing about this game.
Anyone else speculate that this will be Generations 2. It says "modern sonic gameplay." Will this game have classic sonic too? I hope so.
>Not wanting a 3D and a 2D sonic game every 2~4 years
I wouldn't mind a Sonic Generations/Colors sequel and Sonic Mania every 3 years.
Looks fucking awesome.
Someone did mention the possibility of branching pathways.
That could be the one thing it needs to be a decent shakeup from Sonic Generations.
Generations had branching paths.
Mediocre OS game shit tier, fuckyou Sega.
>That's the exactly same gameplay of Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors.
I know. I've played them.
>What would you think they could include so the game is not "boring" ?
Design levels so that they're not just hallways with five second long "alternate paths". Better yet, design every future level using Seaside Hill act 2 from Generations as a template. It's probably the best level out Unleashed, Colors, and Generations combined. Alternatively, design obstacles so that they can be overcome in different ways, so levels don't just become a series of "slide here, now homing attack across here, now side step here, etc." It becomes too repetitive after a while and ultimately causes the game to feel like its mostly flash with little real substance.
>Are you an obsessive retard when it comes to indies or 2D games?
Hit a nerve, user? Didn't mean to insult your precious modern Sonic.
I know this just BURNS YOU UP INSIDE but Sonic Mania is the last game I will be buying from this franchise.
They finally broke me.
Sonic ONCE AGAIN PROVING that no matter the quality of the gameplay, any in-house Sonic game has fucking stellar music.
I think that's actually a really beautiful environment. It looks somewhat like Spagonia got fused with Green Hill Zone (look at the background terrain beyond the city when Sonic's way high up in the air) by the seaside and is under attack during a rather beautiful late afternoon.
Fantastic use of colors and scene setup in the background. I have high hopes.
The animations and particle effects and other visual elements need work but otherwise I'm confident I'll get to play a really nice-looking game, even better than Generations.
>It's another hold up on the analog stick while pressing the speed boost button to win
Holy shit
I'm avoiding listening to it because Sonic music is best experienced with Crush 40 vocals.
How is it?
I played both, doesn't look too exciting honestly
Is Sonic holding a communist revolution? What the fuck is up with the logo
Ah son of a bitch, they fell for the chiptune mem-
>mfw The guitars kick in
The game's tagline is "Join the Resistance"...
How the fuck is this gonna run on the Switch?
If this is an evolution of the Unleashed engine and Switch at best reaches PS3 graphics, it's gonna have framerates out the ass or the graphical quality will be super lowered....
>I think they purposely have the 3D game coming out just to see what fans want the most: a 2D game, or a 3D game.
I wouldn't say that. The past few 3D Sonic games have been at least 60% 2D as well, with Sonic Forces not looking any different.
Maybe Sega should just pull a Kirby with Sonic and have it be a predominantly 2D series as well. It's not like their attempts at 3D Sonic have been anything meaningful in the long run anyway.
I'd criticize the game looking more rigidly linear and more all-flash-no-substance than Generations and Unleashed but this looks like the first few seconds of the first level where the players intended to get a feel and figure out the controls.
We need to see more gameplay before we actually talk about its level design
this sounds like sonic music combined with anime music
i liek it
What's the appeal of this kind of Sonic game? Just running in a corridor, occasionally moving left and right, and using your autoaim jump on enemies. Where's the fun? You might as well just play that mobile game. I only played Genesis games, Unleashed and Generations, though.
