>More motivation to storm the final dungeon than has ever been present in a Zelda game

>I feel like I'm missing something and I'm not sure where the disconnect is. I went in cautious because of what I thought to be overinflated reviews and heard a good chuck of Sup Forums calling out the poorer bits of the game, but those two things in particularl (the story and final boss) I don't think I could disagree more on. The only final boss I can think of in the Zelda series on this level is from Link Between World, and -maybe- Wind Waker (from a presentation perspective, as the fight itself was pretty disappointing

But I'm genuinely impressed. I've no idea how Nintendo is going to top this 5-6 years from now

>>Ends up having one of the best final fights in the series
In ocarina of time, we called it the Gerudo horseback archery test, and it was a mini game, not a final boss fight.

>implying finding the last big poe wasn't aggravating as fuck

You misunderstand me.
I'm saying botw's final boss is just a horseback archery mini game. It's not even a fight.

t.nintenbro

How do you not find Ganon easy? I beat him on my first time, and I wasn't even healing. (Could probably of beat him 50 times in a row if I used all my healing items.)

Did you not enjoy seeing your horse buddy that you'd spent all game taming, hopping on his back against the final showdown with a castle-sized beast? Leaping off of him into an updraft and delivering the final blow with the game's signature midair slowmo shot?

Was it easy? Yes. Is every Zelda final boss easy (aside from maybe Thunderbird and Shadow Link if you don't cheese him)? Yes

Which is why I'm confused. Zelda has never had good final bosses. The sheer scale, build up and presentation elevates BotW's pretty high IMO, up there with WW's

Actually a good point. Pretty much every Zelda is easy for adults, it makes sense that they'd keep difficulty for this one in line for children. I'm thinking that hard mode will rectify this issue for more of the hardcore lot and adult core gamers.

someone disagrees with criticism? HE MUST BE A NINTENDRONE!!
shut up you damn loser

Are you a shill promoting difficulty settings as dlc on Sup Forums?

Actually my horse got killed by a guardian on the way to hyrule castle so they gave me some generic brown horse instead.

No, but hard mode is already announced for DLC. If it turns out to be not just a boost to damage but also some mechanics rework/Master Quest style stuff then it'll probably make the game more difficult for people who want it so.

What happens if you didn't use a horse on your way to hyrule castle and all of them are boarded?

they give you the last horse you were on

Fighting Ganon early in the game was fun. At the time I didn't know how to parry, so I relied on Stasis+ and Daruk's protection to do damage. Took forever, so it was satisfying to come back after completing the main quest and kill him effortlessly.

I think a lot of the more "meh" reception came from people rushing to the finish the game rather than taking their time with it. I have in the passed rushed through games and had a mixed reception only to go back later and take my time and really learn to appreciate them more. That being said.... BOTW really does have some problems..

>final bosses shouldn't be hard, that's too videogamey

Stopped reading there!

Every game has problems. I'm mostly just talking about the story and final boss specifically. I understand most other complaints with the game, but those two in particular I'm a bit baffled by. I've played every Zelda multiple times and can't think of any other game in the series that's has a Link and Zelda as fleshed out, nor one that really out does the final boss in spectacular way

W-what

How the fuck did you get that from that anons post?

>can't think of any other game in the series that's has a Link and Zelda as fleshed out
WW and ST stand out to me, even SS to an extent

so you read the whole post?

>Was it easy? Yes. Is every Zelda final boss easy (aside from maybe Thunderbird and Shadow Link if you don't cheese him)? Yes

He's specifically saying that they should never attempt to improve upon the horrible flaws of previous Zelda games, because it's a "tradition" or something.

Considering that
1. The whole point of the game is to gather enough power to defeat Ganon
2. The combat system has improved on all previous Zeldas

It was dissapointing that Ganon was so easy. He should have been hard enough that freeing the divine beasts and tracking down the master sword felt necessary while not being completely mandatory.

It's disappointing he's outclassed by Lynels

Ganon's first form did more damage to me than my first Silver Lynel

Focus attacks make Lynels complete jokes

That's not what I meant at all. I meant, in respect to what you'd expect from a final boss in a Zelda game, I don't see the final boss in BotW is such a big complaint. I mean heck, it's a huge, huge improvement compare to Twilight Princess' final boss

Could it have been better? Of course, but that can be said about everything. As someone who's played the Zelda franchise, and basing the game around what I've come to expect from the series, the final boss was pretty inline, even slightly ahead of what the average Zelda final boss is

For a "perfect game"; heralded as the greatest thing to ever exist, that's not an excuse in the slightest. Ganon shouldn't be a piss-easy pushover because "oh it's always been like that". When you make a new game in a series, YOU FIX THE PROBLEMS.

And then to add insult to injury, they demand 20 dollars in DLC just for a hard mode. I don't care if it's a proper hardmode, they have alot of gall asking that much money for a feature that should be basic in 2017. And yet people will defend it as perfect.

Except nobody says BotW is a perfect game, they're saying it's the best Open World game ever made. There's a difference. Things can always be improved, and your complaint would be one of them. That doesn't negate anything good about the game.

>they're saying it's the best Open World game ever made.
not with its horrible problems, like leaving basic features out of the base game, the abhorrent framerate, the lack of difficulty at any point in the game. This is supposed to be better than the Witcher, or Fallout, or skyrim? And I wonder what these people base this on? their own bias? game journalists?

It reeks of nonsense.

biggest ganon yet and he's basically a shooting gallery. spiderdorf was decent, but way too easy once you get parrying down.

>For a "perfect game"

I didn't say it was a perfect game. But what BotW -did- do was take the series back in the direction of its roots, and do it remarkably well, with top tier presentation on top of it

It's has flaws, but so does every game, and it's rare to see something of this quality get released. I think that's why everyone is freaking out and giving it perfect scores, because honestly scores don't mean jackshit. They've lost all value. Thinks gets arbitrary numbers for arbitrary reasons

Ignore that shit and realize people are just thrilled and they expres this by spouting '10/10 best game of all time' Same would happen with any popular series. Imagine how much people would freak out if Devil May Cry 5 with the same quality as 3 after the whole DmC fiasco

>implying I ever tamed a horse

the reason the story is weak is because all the interesting moments have already happened (in the context of the game's narrative). not a whole lot actually goes on in the current timeline. rito part was rushed as fuck.

Witcher, Fallout, and Skyrim are not in any way shape or form difficult games. That you use them as an example of difficulty is laughable. All of these games also had worse performance on consoles than BotW upon release, so your comparison is even more lacking.

What "basic features" are left out of the base game?

As if those games are any difficult either

Seriously what the fuck

True, there is definitely a lack of urgency in regards to Ganon's return in the game. How would they improve upon that without ruining the open world aspect? I suspect the nature of the story provides that as a problem.

the rest of the game was so good that i didn't mind the minimal story for the most part...wish the rito segment was more involving though.

ganon sucked ass OP.

Probably means hard mode, which if hard mode ends up just being double damage, and less healing, I completely agree with.

However, even with that I'd still put BoTW above those 3 games.

Sure, it may be quality to you, but to me I see an unfinished, greedy, corporate garbage heap, for the reasons I listed earlier.

Of course, you're welcome to disagree, that's fine. But every other thread is basically "you have to like this" or "why haven't you preordered the best game ever made" or "only sonydouches would say this game wasn't 1000/10 masterpiece" and it gets really aggrivating when people blindly discard its major flaws just to jerk off the series.

I never said any of those games were particularly good, but BOTW is no better than them since they're all watered down console games with laughable PC ports.

>what basic features are left out

The ability to run at a stable 60 FPS for one. How about a hard mode or difficulty levels? The ability to remap controls? That last one in particular is shameful because it's a feature that's existed in video games for 40 years and counting.

>Consistently hear that it has a disappointing final boss
>Ends up having one of the best final fights in the series
Come on dude

>How would they improve upon that without ruining the open world aspect?

some sort of event triggered after completing each dungeon? say you beat one divine beast and there's an attack on kakariko or something.

My horse got stuck on a rock and I decided to fast travel where I needed to go or just climbed something and jumped off.

the new hard mode is a tiny fraction of the DLC.

The only real disappointing thing about the ending is the credits is just a screenshot slide instead of seeing the effects on the world and the NPC reactions to Ganon being defeated.

youtube.com/watch?v=Db15jJl9Gfk

youtube.com/watch?v=gssYeQ20mmw

BotW could have had a GREAT credits scene especially with all the NPC's, towns and the effect calamity had on the world.

But what if i don't want the rest of the DLC? That's another problem: you can't even purchase any of it separately. You have to buy it all at once. What was nintendo thinking, other than "this will make us tons of money?"

If hard mode ends up being small why the fuck wasn't included in the original game?

I'll only be satisfied if hardmode revamps the dungeon difficulty and size and revamps the boss fights to be challenging.

If it's just double damage and no healing, Nintendo will have made a gigantic mistake.

most of the NPCs didnt seem to care about ganon in the first place. hell a lot of them are pretty chipper to say the end times are near.

I wanted closure to the LinkxMipha romance.

Honestly, what Zelda game has a better final boss? It's never been a strong point of the series

I mean fuck, look at Twilight Princess' final boss

>More motivation to storm the final dungeon than has ever been present in a Zelda game

No, it's the same motivation as usual.

maybe you shouldnt play a childrens game if you want difficulty

Wind Waker, LTTP, Link's Awakening, Oracles

I could mod in a better boss than these hacks, to be honest.

i really hope they retire ganon for a while. he has been the antagonist of 4 out of the 6 3D Zelda titles. They don't know what to do with him anymore and it shows.

>>Ends up having one of the best final fights in the series

>Hype as fuck fight with Ganon in OoT
>1 on 1 sword fight with Ganondorf in TP

I loved BoTW too but it was literally
>Parry beam
>Attack

Until the final bout with Ganon where it was
>Ride along dodging easy to dodge attacks on your horse
>Shoot the giant glowing points

>Wind Waker

But that was even easier than botw's

Only played WW which is definitely better from a story and atmosphere perspective.

But difficulty-wsie WW Ganondorf is a complete joke, I probably could beat him with one hand.

Majoras Mask, Wind Waker, Zelda II if you don't cheese it, hell even Phantom Hourglass has a more meaningful boss battle. These battles also incorporate some sort of difficulty in their gameplay as you can stock up on 20 instaheal+temp heart items and what I assume is 99 fairies.

I agree, bring back Vaati. His final fight in Minish Cap was neat. It would be cool to see something like that in 3D

Or something like Onox's fight in 3D

>Ride along dodging easy to dodge attacks on your horse
Can you even call it dodging if he never actually attacks you?

can't stock up on*

I don't know about ganon , but Hyrule Castle was the best final dungeon in the series bar none. There's no way you could convince me otherwise

>open world aspect

This is the worst meme in video games. It cheapens the experience of the game in every way to be able to go anywhere at any time to do anything.
I like having big worlds but i like a little structure to it as well.
Why cant we have a big world like botw but have sections off it cut off like the bridge to geradu valley in oot. Also some areas that you are clearly not meant to go to as a new player that are filled with dangerous enemies that you can go back to later to try and defeat to get some cool item or whatever.

He does a flame breath I think?
Kinda sad when the roaming dragons do a better job with attacks than Ganon. Should have been something similar to what the dragons do but with malice instead of an element

Come on, WW Ganondorf is fucking easy, I legitimately might be able to beat him with my eyes closed.

But this is exactly what botw does. The beasts are cut off until you fulfill certain requirements, and you can storm hard areas of the game whenever you want

What happens if you don't tame a horse when you get to Ganon? Do you just run around normally or does Zelda get you one?

WW was easy but the fights were better built up
>HERE'S CALAMITY GANON IN THE SANCTUM!
>OH NO, HE'S RANDOMLY TURNED INTO THE ULTIMATE FORM DESPITE HIM DOING THE SAME IN EVERY OTHER GAME

The fight with beast-ganon felt forced as fuck. He was down in less than 5 minutes too, barely attacks you as well.

>The beasts are cut off until you fulfill certain requirements,
Not even remotely the same thing as cutting off whole areas

I don't get why people hate the final boss so much. Calamity was by far the toughest of any boss in the game, and Dark Beast was just a finale. First form was harder than OoT's tennis match, MM's rollspam, TP's slow dodging, or WW's literally nothing.

I'll give you difficulty but atmosphere and storywise it's better. I might be mixing up what I'm arguing here though.

nowhere near as good as Ganon's Tower in LttP.

>Watch arm cannon
>Once the laser turns blue around it parry
>Rinse and repeat until dead
Super hard.

I agree, Story-wise WWdorf is absolute top-tier, I'm just saying it didn't incorporate any difficulty.

>bigass AoE
>like six different melee attacks that all hurt like fuck
>flame spam

Harder than OoT's slow tennis 'parries'

Not to mention
>press dodge on slices for combo damage
>repeat

It was harder than most Zelda bosses, but it needed to be much harder. Unlike every other Zelda game, the only thing stopping you from beating BoTW is you're ability to defeat CG. It's literally the point of the whole game, there needs to be a different standard.

He should have been hard enough to make freeing the divine beasts and getting the master sword to feel worthwhile. Considering how hyped he is it's disappointing to realize you could probably kill him after two divine beasts.

>Is every Zelda final boss easy? Yes

I'm pretty sure that it's possible to die in other zelda games to final bosses so they are automatically harder than BotW's final boss.

I'd give BotW a strong 9/10 but the final boss is not one of the reasons why.

This is why I'm really looking forward to hard mode, if they do it right it could basically give us the difficulty more hardcore fans are wanting.

Though I'm still like 90% sure the final battle will be a victory lap.

It should be substantial if they're waiting to months to release it, they should expand the divine beast dungeons and make them harder as well as revamp the ganon fight.

Kill two birds with one stone.

If it's just basic hero mode, Nintendo confirmed for Jew Lords

I'm wondering, how they would do it right? The combat is flawed at an almost fundamental level and it only ever becomes challenging when you are being so swarmed with enemies that the game chugs. If they removed flurry or parrying then the enemies would become more spongey and tedious then they already are. Would they remove the ability to knock enemies down and effectively make two handers and most bows worthless? To me it just feels like they can't really make anything harder without making them sponges or just hit retard hard.

I refuse to look up the end credits until I finish the game myself, but answer me this: does it use the photos stored in your Sheikah slate? If not, they REALLY dropped the ball.

they could limit how attacks work fundamentally, having certain enemies be weaker to certain types of weapons. (IE: Moblins weaker to spears, lizaflos weaker to broadswords, etc.) and also apply that sort of things to the bosses. They could also make it so bosses do more non-parryable attacks to attack faster to test you more.

no it doesn't it uses story cutscenes.

It's not that flawed imo, what they need is more telegraphed attacks for bosses, and far less lenient timing for flurry activation.
They also should remove the arrow bullet time so bosses like vah ruta are somewhat challenging.

Also need to remove healing or seriously nerf it.

Well fuck me then, I was keeping a handful of cool looking pictures around just in the hope the game would pull a Earthbound end credits in honor of Iwata.

>muh aesthetic
The final boss doesn't even fucking move.

No fuck you that fight was a step above a QTE

the final ganon in SS was a hundred times better for chrissakes

didnt even get a satisfying final sword stabby

>Laser
Parry. Easy if you fought more than 5 gaurdians on your way in (Or got the timing down in the Great Plains region so gaurdians were never a threat unless you the lock on function didn't feel like working)
>Flame Attack
Walk fucking sideways
>Aoe
Backflip or walk backwards
>Every other attack
Backflip
Cah-lamb-ah-tee Ganon was a fucking joke.

Why do you people act like parrying is the primary way to beat Guardians
I beat the game with a significant amount of the extra content cleared and I never parried any attack
I also killed every Guardian in Hyrule Castle

I honestly think SS's final fight against Demise is underrepresented. Say what you will about the game as a whole, but a one on one swordfight with a demon on some alternate level of reality was pretty fucking great. And definitely more of a challenge than this.

Agreed OP people just like to bitch

>Why is everyone acting like the simplest way to do the maximum amount of damage to an enemy with one fucking attack is the primary way to defeat it?
If they did anything else besides Laser or LaserLaserLaser like gain a new moveset after a parry you would have a point.

just stasis and beat them to death

Yeah, that is an option. So is bombing them to death or using Magnesis to beat them with a crate.
But the simplest and fastest way is to just parry their only attack.
Saves durability on weapons and saves time.

>tfw had to use a 5 shot lynel bow with bomb arrows to hit 23 targets in horseback archery
JUST
why couldn't it have been as easy as pig ganon

>not just ancient arrowing them before they even fire at you

By the time you're fighting guardians en masse ancient arrows are hardly a commodity.

so is there a super blood moon later that makes areas more enemy heavy or anything? Right now my biggest complaint is lack of monster density. Or are there specific regions for huge amounts of enemies?

That too. I was just really disappointed with the combat after a while. Boomerangs lightened it up for a bit but most of the time they'd hit something and just not come back to me.
All the weapons have the same move-set if they are of the same type, you have the charge, Y-mash, or jump attack.Just bland over all.

and I'm not even using the knight saddle anyway, I'm using the extravagant in order to look as gay as possible
