I thought all the Botw publicity would have brought people to discover and recognize the best zelda game and finally trash Ocarina of Time forever
but this did not happen
why?
is alttp "too old" for gen z kids who want to feel hip?

BotW was my first Zelda game and I'm wondering which Zelda to play next
I know the 3D games are more linear than BotW, should I download ALttP from the eshop?
I can't enjoy LttP as much as I used to.
Not sure why.
link between worlds is some good shit, I recommend going there if you're curious about 2D ones
lttp, mm and awekening still hold up quite well
Honestly, every zelda game is worth at least one playthrough. Some are obviously better than others though. Most are damn good
you should just emulate it desu
3D Zelda was a mistake.
Nobody thinks A Link to the Past is too old. It has aged better than most games.
The whole reason that it's still so beloved was because its strictly linear hand holding design allowed modern kids to play it to completion. Give them most SNES games and they'll either be too stupid to figure out what to do or too bad to actually do it.
The is also the reason why Megaman X is considered the best Megaman series. It's because it's the easiest.
and yet oot has aged like milk (expecially camera and controls) but people prefer it to alttp
face it, 2d is off limits for kids
like people refusing to watch black and white movies "because it's 2017"
same, but I know its because I've played so much over the years I'm completely burned out on it
OoT has aged really well. It's an overrated game but not because of any real problems with how it has aged.
The kid areas feel kinda shitty but once you're an adult everything plays really good.
ALttP, OoT and BotW are the three huge gamechangers in the series. Play them and branch out from there.
ALTTP isn't even close to being the best 2D Zelda. In fact, if it wasn't for Adventure of Link I'd probably say it was the weakest one of them all before Minish Cap.
>The kid areas feel kinda shitty but once you're an adult everything plays really good.
I feel the same. I think it's because the child part of the game was a literal tutorial to ease people into 3D Zelda.
Anybody else worried zelda will become too mainstream? I know it's mainstream enough for "gamergurls" to get tattoos of the triforce but there are still people who have never played a zelda game (as crazy as that may sound). With botw reaching massive success, I'm concerned it'll become as mainstream as COD and we'll see the series become a shadow of its former self
A Link to the Past is one of the games from the Super Nintendo generation that I'm not sure why it's so overwhelmingly popular. I'm not Gen Z, I'm turning 30 this year, but to me it's just another very solid Zelda game, not particularly above average by the series' standards.
probably burned out, try messing around with the satellaview zelda to see if it captures some of that old spark.
>but there are still people who have never played a zelda game (as crazy as that may sound).
it's called europe
we don't give a fuck about your homo elf
we grew up with crash and spyro
>filters
>tfw sharp CRT ive had for the last 15 years is fucked
>the screen is literally crooked and stretched
>dont want to get rid of it because playing on LCD is even worse
A Link to the Past perfected the basic 2D Zelda formula that Zelda 1 introduced, and because of that it will always seem lacking compared to the 2D games that innovated on top of it.
It is the missing link (lel) of the Zelda evolution and is not given enough credit for that, but next to other 2D games it wont really stand up.
Ocarina of Time is to 3D Zelda what Zelda 1 is to 2D, the originator. So people will always value it more, and rightfully so I suppose.
it's a toshiba crt you absolute mongoloid
Link's Awakening is actually the 3D originator, in all sincerity.
sounds the yoke moved out of adjustment from being moved around. easily fixable if you are careful not to electrocute yourself.
Good good. at least I don't have to worry about europe fucking up zelda
Right. In the way that it is in no way 3D? I suppose by that logic it's also the 0D and 4D originator.
Maybe it's because BotW is better
I started to play this game.
They say I need to go to the forest to find Master sword.
What forest I should go to?
OoT is basically LttP in 3D
both games basically share exactly the same flaws
preferring one over the other only indicates which one you grew up with
this is a oot vs alttp thread
The best 2D Zelda is the first game.
Ocarina is the best 3D Zelda.
Link to the Past is overrated as all fuck and not even the best Zelda game on the SNES.
because its a shit game
You are a goddamn idiot. That's an actual TV running an actual SNES running an actual cart of the actual game.
No emulation or filters, you double nigger.
northwest corner
>both games basically share exactly the same flaws
I don't remember having to deal with shit z-target on alttp
oh wait because that one is actually a good game!!!
I don't care
z-target is one of the good things about OoT though
theres a reason 20 years later the exact same mechanic is being recycled for every game
>not even the best Zelda game on the SNES.
Yeah, those other SNES Zelda games that only exist in your head sure are great.
except one has signs of being a painfully proto 3d game and the other one is a solid 2d with a gameplay style that had already been tested over the years
Thanks
I've had a look at ALBW and I might try that as my first 2D as it's nonlinear
I'll go with release order of the 3D games
It's the best solution they could come up with to a messy situation. It's not a good feature so much as it makes a shitty issue less shitty. Yeah I'm glad it exists, but it's far from perfect.
Painfully proto?
Good luck beating zelda 1 and 2, user
For official games, the first BS Zelda is better since it's just a remake of the already superior first Zelda game.
For unofficial, Brain Lord, Soul Blazer, and ESPECIALLY Terranigma are all Zelda clones I think were better.
>theres a reason 20 years later the exact same mechanic is being recycled for every game
because nintendo is a hack
Proto means early/primitive.
Hai, senpai. I'm just curious what you mean by that. I got Ocarina of Time for the Christmas of 1998 and finished it a few months later, and it didn't seem primitive to me back then.
OoT wasn't proto, the reason it has the great reputation it has is because it was one of the first 3D games that didn't actually feel proto.
>BS Zelda
Oh the JP only one that needed the abomination of an attachment and was casualised with the voice over guide all the way through? Sounds fucking amazing.
Nice stretch by the way.
The Soul Blazer/Illusion of Gaia/Terranigma series is great, though I think Soul Blazer might be the most fun to me. Its repetitive arcade-style action is pretty zen to me, and the game has a damn good soundtrack. I still remember the music for the last area despite not having played it for years.
it was literally mario64 with a green hat
...
...
Zelda has a cartoon, a breakfast cereal and a fast food kid's meal toy. In what universe is Zelda not mainstream?
Crap, I've been sent back to 1988 Sup Forums again.
>filters
not even same user but he has a point zelda was mainstream for a huge while and that didn't stop having risks with the franchise, in fact the most safe period of zeldas was after it fell from mainstream
Bait?
It's a legit CRT
Do you not see the god damned television in the picture?
Hook, line and sinker.
Merely pretending to be 13
iwasonlypretendingtoberetarded.jpg
God damn, this new post-millennial generation is fucking braindead. Is there any hope for the future of this country/world?
Cause everyone played the first game in preparation for BotW.
Also I like Link's Awakening more.
>2017
>first zelda game
You're not funny.
does anyone else get a random urge to play LTTP but lose the will to keep playing after the first dungeon?
Doubt it. He probably didn't even open the thumbnail and just jumped straight to his little knee-jerk meme reply.
I quit it at the sewers
No, most of us have longer attention spans than a 5 year old. In fact, I remember getting 96 exits in SMW when I was 5.
No?
>trash OoT
Off yourself my man
Ocarina of Time is just 3D ALttP though you shitter. The true best Zelda (before BoTW) was either LoZ or AoL
Finished OoT 2 weeks ago, it still plays great
Emulating doesn't count
Enjoy your dead franchises and hope they don't fuck up crash again
>>Enjoy your dead franchises
enjoy the ubisoft towers ;-)
>tfw can never find a comfy LTTP stream
>always speedrunning timers and shit
>speedrunning
Actually, I thought his post was pretty funny. I think the wolf image did it for me. I'm sorry
You're full of bullshit, many hack'n'slashes make use of targeting and the whole souls-genre is built around it
>watching other people play video games
That was intense.
>and the whole souls-genre is built around it
are you also gonna mention any good game?
If I played ALBW before ALttP, will I have less fun with ALttP?
you are now breathing and blinking manually
If you liked one you'll like the other.
Rad, I loved ALBW.
:20 and :50 were both pretty scary, t b h
>smileys
Having lotta fun m8, thanks
How is Skylanders going for you? I heard Spyro is on it
Backing you up here user, but that's just because I have no idea what to do after. It's too fucking vast.
Go to the second dungeon.
Nioh, dark souls, bloodborne, bayonetta, Darksiders, Metal gear rising, Devil may cry
I grew up with lttp and its not even the best zelda game.
Zelda 1 archaic as it is, still better than lttp.
are you unironically retarded?
Just get a new one? People literally give away perfectly good monitors for free on Craiglists all the time
Wanted to get into zelda after botw came out so I started with link to the past
Was honestly overwhelmed by how good it was for something that old. Ended up going through the whole thing in one sitting.
Finished up, went on to link's awakening and dropped it in under an hour.
Was I burnt out or is it really that much worse than alttp?
Link's Awakening is a little limited so it feels kind of clumsy at times, and it's visually not great, but that is justified by it being built for 1989 handheld hardware.
I have the age to be your father and played that game when it came out. I still prefer OoT.
Why Sup Forums hates OoT? It is a great game, in the top with Mario 3, tetris and others
