Die

>Die
>Have to return to place of death to retrieve lost experience/money

Can this meme simply fucking die already?

Name 5 games.

>dying in video games post 2000

It's definitely has its place, but that place is not in every goddamned game.

It is not something Nier Automata needed. It feels tacked on in Hollow Knight.

Dark Souls 1, Dark Souls 2, Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3, Nioh. There ya go fuckhead.

>Meme Souls
LOL!

>Die
>Have to return to place of death to retrieve lost items

Is there a more painful death that isn't losing your character?

*lost equipment

Not even having the chance to recover items and just losing them instantly.

You said name 5 games, I did. Eat my penis you ginormous fag.

Salt and Sanctuary
Shovel Knight
Nioh
Lords of the Fallen
Hollow Knight.

>wants gay things with other anons
>plays Meme Souls
Like pottery.

Pussy crybaby quitter. When you fall down you gotta get back up. When you fall down riding a bike do you just quit?you probably do

So you want there to be no death penalty or what? How much more casual can you possibly be?

>mfw people actually like that crap in their games

>diablo
nevermind you didn't get exp back

Epic bro XD

how about you stop dying then you shitter
or play an easier game since it's too hard for you

But my bike doesn't magically disappear and force me to go backtrack and look for it when I fall off.

>it's another "Sup Forums is a bunch of casual shits" episode

>it's another Sup Forums defends shitty game mechanics because they think they're hardcore pro gamers

Losing shit on death is pretty bog standard, problem is Meme Souls made it into just another gimmick box for devs to tick off rather than deciding if it's an appropriate choice for the game.

Take Megaman for example, it wouldn't have been a better game if you had to return to your place of death to reclaim energy tanks.

Can you give a reason for why it's bad that's not "waaah getting back to where I was is too haaaard?"

...

No, fuck you. Remember "continues", remember that if you lost, you actually LOST something? You had to go back to the beggining of the game, because the challenge wasnt if you could DO certain thing, but do ALL of the game with the amount of lives the game gave you. Ever since the PS1 era of vidya saving has become more advanced and death has become more meaningless. Losing something like money isnt even a little of what you used to lose in older vidya. I hate to say it but get good faggot.

>Dying in my videogames should be completely consequence-free
>I shouldn't even be dying
>Why do I even have to attack the baddies?
>God this game sucks, why can't it just play itself

>member?
Kill yourself

getting your body back in D2 was the hype maker

Good one.

No one actually LIKES it. Anyone who talks positively about it is doing some hardcore-signaling to let all the other anonymous posters that they're super badass at video games and everyone should be impressed. Every remotely challenging game has people coming out of the woodwork talking about how they love some annoying, offputting mechanic because it makes them look tough.

I've seen people on Sup Forums talk positively about the extremely tedious, strictly annoying map system in Hollow Knight. They can't help themselves but pretend like they love everything that's a pain in the ass to deal with because they're TOTALLY NOT CASUALS

At least you get a chance to retrieve lost exp you big baby.

Nier: Automata

I never understood why they kept that in softcore. In hardcore sure it made sense that you'd want your comrades to retrieve your items but in softcore all you had to do was reload and your body teleported back to town.

Enemies that drain exp/levels without even killing you.

>Greater Mummy touches you!
>Wight touches you!
>Lich touches you!
Ah, the good ol' days.

it's tedious and it doesn't really add to the difficulty to the game.

minecraft

Or maybe they like it and are not you, but hey, someone disagree with me? By the heavens no! They must be trying to look tough.

It's not tedious when in every game that uses it nine times out of ten you were going to have to go back to wherever you died anyways, as that's the next path you need to traverse.

>Everyone shares my opinion and if they don't they're just pretending not to

How is it tedious?

You got a little bit back, but only like 75% of it.

>dying should never have consequences and only move me back a few checkpoints at most

Well memed.

>I only enjoy auto-win games with 0 risk
I bet you save everytime you kill an enemy in other games too.

>Hollow Knight.
Really? I don't even mind the mechanic typically, but doesn't this game's genre have enough going for it to not need that? Is it annoying in the game?

>Dying shouldn't have consequences except for the consequences I'm not counting
Dude this ground is too soft. I wish more of my bones were broken.

>die in a MMO
>lose items
>other players can loot your corpse
Ashrons Call was brutal.

>game hails permadeath as a feature
>you can make a new character in the same world and get all your items back in minutes anyways

fucking project zomboid

>games are more fun when they punish the player for making mistakes

Can this meme simply fucking die already?

Neo-Sup Forums would equate anything like limited continues to broken bones.

>gets pissed that his bait gets most obviosu bait answer
really makes you cringe

No. You typically have to go back to where you died just to progress anyways, and if you REALLY don't want to go back there's a person in the starting town that you can give an item to in order to get your shit back.

>punishing players for making mistakes
>Games shouldn't punish deaths
>Games shouldn't have any challenge
>Games should just be interactive movies

>enemy hands out you weapons and armor
this isn't dark souls

That's literally every game though. Even taking damage is a form of punishment.

Terraria, Minecraft, and Runescape are all I can think of.

Yes, fuck all this gameplay nonsense that stops me from enjoying the story and finishing the game.

>asks another Man to perform oral sex on him
>calls the other guy Gay

This. What kind of fucking casual do you take me for, OP?

Takes one to know one.

Can someone make a Sup Forums - Video Games screencap of this post

90% of games don't even have these mechanics, it's only really in niche games.
If you don't like the mechanics fuck off back to Batman's Creed: Call of Honour and leave the challenge for those who want it

>i'am too shit to play videogames without handholding

Continue systems are from an era when games were like 3 hours long and exceptionally simple. The only way to feel like you got your money's worth was to make dying a tremendous hurdle.

Nowadays, games can be upwards of 90 hours long without deaths impeding your progress, and can often feature side content that is more complex than entire games used to be.

Complaining about a lack of continues and game overs in modern games shows such a lack of understanding of game design that you shouldn't be allowed to comment on the subject at all.

No. If you want a stupid screen cap to show the faggots on 9gag or FunnyJunk, do it yourself, cunt rag.

>getting so anally devastated after saying something stupid

Unless you're playing an MMO the punishment should be being a fucking failure, and if you're playing an MMO you should kill yourself.

Dark Souls gives you all the tools you need to beat it easily, though. Otherwise it would just be unfair, instead of difficult.

The only good punishment for dying in video games it setting you back to the start of the level and take some recoverable resources away from you. Anything else is unnecessary gimmick shit.

What the fuck are you talking about nigger?

>Not deleting saves after deaths on easier difficulties because of how pathetic the player must be
I fucking love gamedev

>It is not something Nier Automata needed.
But it did.
On normal there's no pressure whatsoever and everything is easy.
On Hard it's pretty intense. After losing my chipset twice I had to chose different approach and get more defensive and cautious instead of YOLO-ing stuff without worry like during Normal.
Also if you really don't like the idea you can easily work around with 2 save slots use.

>Casual Souls
>Difficult
Pick one

While we're talking about this.

>X doesn't make the game more difficult
>artificial difficulty!

>dude if you could pick your own cards instead of drawing at random then it would be easy!
>if my pawn could move here it wouldn't be so bullshit!

Why haven't you killed yourselves yet?

Nier Automata is not a game built around its challenge. It doesn't need "pressure."

It's a fucking story game about robots learning to love.

There is a valid point to be made about artificial difficulty though. I think the best example I can think of is I Wanna Be The Guy Gaiden.

Le hard games for us let hardcore gamers!!

Call of Duty Veteran - lol lets throw 6 grenades at him

That was good for one playthrough.
Harder difficulties are great so you don't fall asleep if you want to do another.
Automata is great because it gives you choices ranging from game literally playing itself to OHKO autism.
Nothing wrong about having choices.

Because being good at video games is not an accomplishment worth real life and won't get you picked for ft hose sports teams back in high school

its a somewhat lazy way to apply a sense of danger to what would otherwise be boring platforming

it usually appears in games where you can farm infinite resources in later levels

not great, not terrible

>Call of Duty
>Hard at any difficulty
Get out

>It doesn't need "pressure."
Not him but that's kind of wrong.
Especially considering start of route C when everyone's only backup option goes BOOM and androids go from perceiving dead as mild annoyance to no-more-continues-we're-fucked.

Says the man posting in a chinese trap sweatshop board - videogames section

It has nothing to do with accomplishment, some people just like playing games that are more difficult than press y to counter all attacks and win the fight. Games are far more engaging when they add tensions and risk/rewards

It can't be any worse than
>Playing a game
>Fuck up a quest or just die to something really obvious
>last save was four hours ago

Gotchu senpai

Minecraft
Diablo 2
Shovel Knight
Dark Souls series / Bloodborne
Hollow Knight
