The map feels a lot smaller than the first time around and I remember most of the stuff as I go deeper into the story but overall it's still great. I hope they don't butcher this one

My hope is that the main character is a law man hunting down dutch's gang but slowly gets entranced with his philosophy.

John's story is told from the side, but you can observe the rift between him and the gang as he slowly falls for abagail.

see I think you'd do your scenario much more effectively from the side than as having John be the protag. John's story has been told, but it'd be rewarding to see it from the perspective of someone else...let alone how Dutch's gang split up to begin with.

I actually like that idea better. But who else would we play as? I imagine that it would be someone in the gang too, but don't we already know everyone that was in the gang? I wouldn't want to play as Javier or someone like that.

I hope the online is a completely optional afterthought and not where all of the focus goes into while the single player mode essentially only exists as a reason to make the map.

I don't think it should be anyone from the first game. Either a new gang member or some outsider seeking them out, be it the law, or something like 3:10 to Yuma.

If it's a gang member, he obviously would make it into the post game where then you play as John.

This. If you use John as a main character again it would feel to much like a set-up story for the prevoíous game. Having a new MC means he can have is own story with a beginning, middle and end

They're gonna delay it to implement some of that Breath of the Wild magic. Zelda just postponed every open world game by setting the bar so high. They wouldn't dare release a game without top notch world interactivity and freedom after the masterpiece that just got 10/10 scores back to back.
