Man the times were gold back then.
Anti grief plugins weren't that frequent we could get creative. Go on night raids in cities, changing german flags with weimar flags. Take all the gold out of a church because fuck catholicism.

Guy named Tahomer asks us to join his faction of riverdale. He has glas blocks above lava and i removed one and his house burned down.
We helped him to rebuild and when we were done 90% we lit it again, he still believed it was all an accident. The second rebuild included a fuse made of wood. "What is this?" -gonna build a pond to make up for your loss and it needs a catwalk for you to fish. "Thanks =)"

Shortly after the last block is placed I light the fuse and stand together with the two others, looking proudly at the finished house. We enter and realize that the whole back of the house already burned away. Tahomer disconnected and was never seen again.

I also killed an admin who was afk on a non pvp server by drowning him bcause he blew up my house.
He build a hotel with 1 diamond per week for rent if you want a room. Friend and I got two rooms and build a tunnel system and whole living area under the hotel.
The suite of the admin was covered in diamond blocks and I glitched the door open. We took all diamond block hidden under stairs and other objects so he wouldn't notice. Another inhabitant of the hotel saw this and spammed the chat with FREE DIAMONDS @ HOTEL, we took what we could and left the hotel as ruin. The admin went full autistic rage and banned the wrong person:^)
We build a farm with a pink elephant on it.
Under it we hid the "Bernsteinzimmer" hiding all diamonds and huge swastika.

On a colonial server we build a German Kaisserreich village with a fuckass huge burg and different themed parts with Chinese and african architecture.
The admin just felt like it and resetted the map without a word. We went fuck it and started a HUEG! forest fire that spread 11 times the max render distance in all directions.

Trees didn't burn completely and left forever burning block in the air.
It took them 1 month to notice the fire and they didn't want to reset again.
they payed people 20 diamonds for cutting these wood blocks for hald an hour.
I just waited out of sight and took a shit or watched videos while still cashing in the money.

honestly i could never stand any of them aside from simon and lewis and i only really listened to the yogpod because their minecraft content always felt shit, i guess the first series was fun enough because it felt more like one of their yogpods, but the rest was pretty terrible

I am still wondering why admins thought it was a good idea to fucking waste all the fucking effort people put into making server great and popular in the first place.

Does anyone know what happened to that old "elite building team" or whatever? They had like, a huge server you had to apply to for building, and had plugins and stuff for brushes to easily build large scale things. I remember one of the tools was an arrow.

Please tell me someone else remembers what I'm talking about. I remember them being super popular at one point, but I don't remember what happened to them.

Most people agree Hunger ruined it, but the downfall started when Notch went on extended vacations and the content from each update was slowly getting smaller and less significant.

R9K had a couple of servers with vanilla minecraft, as far as I know only one is currently alive (though it's not exactly vanilla but the only changes are being able to claim territory so other people can't destroy your shit and some shitty RPG skills no one uses) but I have no idea how is it holding up nowadays since the last time I played on it was half a year ago and when I checked it now it was empty, it used to be comfy as fuck.
It's 1.9.4 server though.

Don't forget that thanks to a recent update, if you didn't get in a server soon enough you're now outclassed forever unless you loot a guy's Bow with Mending Infinity (Self-repairing that uses EXP and Infinite Arrows) because they made it impossible to forge that combo now.

i definitely think shields were a complete improvement and how arrows can be enchanted, as well as more potions

For the guys who were arguing about about 2b2t before, I have a few fun stories about that one. In order to survive on it I had to turn into some kind of crazy wandering hermit. The server is actually pretty fun if you like to explore stuff, there are tons of ruins and abandoned bases in all directions. Here is some fun shit that happened to me.

>walk through a big forest during night
>climb a hill/mountain overlooking the flat area in front of it
>everything is ablaze
>biggest fire I ever saw in this game
>start to go around it
>forest gets less dense
>see a dude in the distance decked out in all diamond gear and shit
>immediately hide, I stand no chance against this guy with my iron scrub gear
>he is setting fire to the forest
>decide to follow him
>he just walks and sets fires
>this goes on for more than a hour
>get the suspicion that he is a bot or something until he starts to talk to someone in chat
>he stops, starts to take of his gear
>he is fucking around in his inventory
>this is my chance, there is no other way
>Convince myself that he would to the same as I attack him
>manage to kill him getting all his cool enchanted gear and his inventory full of diamonds and shit
>he explode in chat and shitposts at me like a motherfucker
>just ignore it and continue my journey
>eventually find this torchlight mid-size house near a lake
>guy still shitposts
>look through the window
>someone lies in a bed inside
>it's him
>the entire house is made of wood

I remember when Notch was sharing builds with us and taking feedback on a regular basis. He seemed cool. The community was pretty good back then too, and little additions like fences seemed so substantial.

some of the mods had like town systems for villagers where they'd all have professions and make their own towns that would get bigger
