Nah it's not the same.
MMOs are dead my man, now they're just antisocial hallway running simulators where you click 123 hotbar variations and dodge puddles or other stupid gimmicky shit to ensure that you don't fall asleep out of boredom.
You just gotta accept that it's over, maybe have a little hope that one day there will be a resurgence of good games.
but xi doesn't have hotbars user
MMOs today are either a ded gaem or a hotbar themepark, pick one.
if you try to play again, play on asura
can confirm, asura is awesome
It's "okay" short rushes of nostalgia
It's not going to be damn 75-era FFXI again though
I mean it was cool that I could solo a dude to 85 in a couple days from scratch but it's just so boring and soulless now.
i'd play if it was free to play desu
we've had a Sup Forums ls on asura for a while now, it's been pretty fun. surprisingly active
its still a fuckton better than that down's syndrome bait that is 14ARR.
It's not the same, they ruined it then tossed in a bunch of cover ups to try and fix it but it's still totally fucked and soulless.
MMOs are dead, it's painful but you've got to move on.
It's not as good as it was but it's still the best MMO on the market.
Seekers of Audolin fixed a lot of the stuff Abyssea broke
agreed. adoulin brought ffxi back to its glory, and escha/reisen has kept it alive
Every time guys
We keep bringing it up but its not worth it, the only few people that are playing are literally stay at home parents or adults NEETs that hate change.
Let it die guys just let it die
what do you mean?
James stop, enough is enough.
GO home, mom misses you.
I would say no, but we may not share the same profile.
Wait for a return back campaign and see for yourself.
Personally think SE has killed what made me love the game. No point in going back.
>adults NEETs that hate change.
I'll call bullshit on that one. The main reason I'm not playing it *is* the changes made to the game.
If you want to play it as an MMO, no.
If you want to run through the storylines on a fresh character and get that dose of nostalgia you're craving solo with a bunch of trust NPCs, yes.
They didn't jump ship to the other Final Fantasy is what I am pointing at friendo. Living in the past
A refusal to relinquish one's past isn't nearly similar to hate of change - all the more true when holding on to the old means having to suffer more changes in the first place.
I can see where you're coming from, I just don't think it's right way to wrod it, there's a dissymmetry at play here.
Sounds more like sunk cost fallacy to me, they spent too much time and money on a game so they can't quit now.
Anyway... I miss this game so fucking much.
>that music
Depends on what you're nostalgic about, community aspect isnt what it used to be but theres plenty of content to go through aswell as plenty of people playing, atleast on asura.
Most of the people that I still see playing it fall into that role or they are fairly "new" to the game and came in somewhere around Abyssea or wotg at the earliest. They praise the game as it stands today because they don't know how good it actually was in the old days.
Either way it's just not worth playing, yeah it technically is the best MMO on the market but the heart and soul of the game is gone. The story is still there but you're not going to get the same challenge, sense of accomplishment, and the community is gone.
are you ok?
...
If you enjoyed FFXI in the past, you'll probably get a few months of fun out of it now, especially if you haven't played in a long time.
I triboxed for years (since before first Abyssea), and only recently called it quits. Omen, the latest end game content, isn't particularly fun compared to what we've had the past 4 years since item level was implemented, and it's the only thing I need gear from now. I got the relevant RMEAs for all the jobs I play. I got billions of gil's worth of HQ items for each character. I've spent literally hundreds of days playing it, and I've only recently gotten bored of it.
So yeah, FFXI's still got plenty to do, if the content suits you. But the content isn't as enjoyable as it was back in the 75 days, everything you do can usually be spammed back to back, or at most is on a 1 day cooldown (Omen). You'll probably get the most fun out of it if you enjoy min/maxing every slot on your jobs.
community on asura is bigger and more active than most servers were in 2004.
just don't play on a dead as fuck world like a retard.
just because you think there was a "challenge" to endless hours of killing blue crabs and ru'aun weapons for 5k exp/hour in ru'aun doesn't make it a good thing.
It sucked dick in 2004, and it sucks dick today.
As for endgame, your average NM from "new" content is more deadly and more annoying than a single thing from old FFXI.
It's easy to stomp through irrelevant content very quickly, and that's a positive thing. Anyone who doesn't see that is retarded.
>should i go back to FFXI?
>go back
>nostalgia
Sounds like someone is pining for the old days! I have a good suggestion for ya, m80! Give a private server a spin. You'll get your money's worth for sure (because it's free.)
Plenty of helpful chaps around to help ya do the stuff you can't do alone, and the grindan parties rarely stop. Come party like it's early 2006.
nasomi.com
You can't really call the game soulless when you only came back to play content no one does.
Current XI has a ton of content, and a lot of it satisfies the returning player's itch.
Want to do classic leveling parties? They introduced job points at level 99 which essentially is 1-99 classic partying.
Want to farm a relic, empyrean, mythic, aenoic? All are updated and still the best weapons in the game.
Want to do end-game? They have monthly content updates with new gear, end-game bosses, etc.
People seem to think the game is still in Abyssea era when it ended 4 years ago. Four years of new content and returning to horizontal progression.
Sure thing, friend!
I will be happy to play on this professionally crafted Darkstarâ„¢ Server that is 100% accurate to retail FFXI and totally not built on a framework of guessed formulas and broken spaghetti code!
I can't wait to play under the rule of a server owner that adheres only to the strictest "75 era" rules, yet never actually made it to 60 in original FFXI!
...
>Nasomi
>Be almost 40.
>RDM
>No parties
>Ever
Maybe I was just unlucky.
As I said, it really depends on your profile. Some things they destroyed with changes - especially so-called QoL changes, they're not getting back.
The game as it stands now offer an ersatz of the original. To some it will be good enough, hell even good. To others it will be a pointless exercise at best.
Best way to know where on stands is give it a spin when free.

What would a 2017 expansion to Final Fantasy XI look like?
The mobile MMO
I never got to play this but ffxiv really isn't doing it for me. I might give uthgard a try since it seems to have a healthy pop
Exactly the person I was referring to, someone who is fairly new to FFXI who thinks it's current form is the best it's ever been.
None because their PS2 dev kit finally bit it.
I played the other FF MMO for a bit, realized it sucked, and then went back to FFXI.
I really hope it dies in development. I can't imagine Nexon not fucking it up.
They seemed to do fine making Rhapsodies without it
OP, if you're actually interested in playing, hop in our discord:
discord.gg
Can help you get caught back up and into the game. That goes for anyone else as well interested in playing.
just remember: you quit for a reason
that was 2 reskinned zones and 1 "new" one, with mostly reskinned mobs. Theyve hit the limit on spells, puppet attachments, wouldnt be suprised if they hit a limit on things like jug pets.
Their option pretty much remains to aby it up and just make a bunch of reskin zones to pass for "new content"
Have any source for all of those? I'm genuinely interested.
my opinions reflect his
been playing since beta.
Its just one bitter autist seething that people are talking about FFXI, for some reason.
I meant to say blue spells there. There was a AMA on plebbit where dev mentions that, as for attachments that was an OF post when asked about adding new ones. They might not be at full capacity but theyre close due to having to keep using the PS2's source engine or whatever.
lots of salty people because their precious game changed some, they hate it even though they most likely never played it
it's sad really
...
...
Brand spankin' new Geomancer. What's a good combined skill to aim around for starting off with it?
850 minimum I'd say & Dunna or Nepote (Very important to have one of these bells).
That should be easily achievable with 109 JSE.
From there, try to get in CP parties as you can pretty much get the rest from JP.
>lots of salty people because their precious game changed some, they hate it even though they most likely never played it
Or, you know, we played it and hated the changes. Last time I tried to come back late last year, seeing what the game had become made me fucking depressed. Could have cried (as much as this could make others laugh).
Good that you're having your fun, I don't begrudge it myself, but I can see how it could be irritating to one that spent years on a loved game only to see it changed into something unlike-able to ones standards, being told to suck it up and take it or leave it because it's only nostalgia that's the issue...
hard to say, but merits and job points help a ton, then it's all gear from there
you want 900 total for capped potency
adoulin jse cape, dunna, solstice, magic skills torque are must haves as well
Maybe you were. Or maybe you played when the server was less alive than it is now. After a week or so of nonstop Sup Forums 'shilling' back in Janurary the population grew a bit. I can't speak for how the server was last year because I hopped on board after seeing said shilling.
A lot better than nothin' m8. And nothing is the only alternative, innit.
...
either the game progresses or it stays the same. there is no middle of the road.
your options are new things, or doing the same content for 15 years. personally, i'm sick of dynamis, sky, sea, limbus, assaults, einherjar, znms, ground kings, old hnms, and most of the other decade old shit, because i've done it to death.
but i still love this game, and having new things to do keeps it alive and fresh. there's as much unique content now as there was then.
the community is still alive, parties are still there, people still fling shit in shout and we're all endlessly grinding for min/max paradise, like we always have.
this game would be as dead as nasomi if it didn't adapt and evolve.
Anybody know the distribution of races for active players? Wondering how many people play Mithra, Elvaan, etc. to satiate my purely intellectual curiosity.
>either the game progresses or it stays the same. there is no middle of the road.
>your options are new things, or doing the same content
>personally, i'm sick of dynamis, sky, sea, limbus, assaults, einherjar, znms, ground kings, old hnms
Interesting that equating of, first content and process, which are two sometimes intersecting, but overall separate issues when you're down it, I'd say and then progress with change (by which I mean, progress is change, but not all changes happen to be progress - I certainly don't think many of the changes made to FFXI were - more lateral transplant) .
They could have added new content without destroying the existing balance.
Part of what they destroyed with the QoL changes is the world-building. The sense of the game space as being it's own world, with its own rules. You might not mind, but many of us did.
>the community is still alive
The part that wasn't killed by the changes is, at least.
>this game would be as dead as nasomi if it didn't adapt and evolve.
But then the game I liked when I played FFXI is even more dead than Nasomi, as another user pointed out.
>this game would be as dead as nasomi
So more alive than all but one retail server?
>go to grind in the Dunes for the first time
>lfg forever
>finally get an invite
>have to run across the fucking sands to the party
>mfw
I don't think an MMO will ever give me these kinds of feels again.
I don't know if they still publish them, but there used to be a yearly census of server populations, you might want to look into that.
Every single retail server, even the deadest has more players than Nasomi
I was always kind of sad that I never played FF11 during it's prime, instead opting to play WoW.
you goofed son
Has anyone noclipped to Tavnazia? Is anything even there?
WoW in it's prime was also very good, it's a shame they all go to shit
...
i have on my PS. it's just a bunch of tiny shittily rendered houses with the random 12 pixel dragons that fly by twice a day
...
I want to live in Windurst with a Mithra waifu
Its a great mmo, it doesnt have the same long term grip it used to though. Its also too expensive.
I came back and ran out of stuff to do in 6 months, couldnt justify the cost after that
XI is shit. It's not the same game. Get over it.
You're shit kiddo.
go, you gonna get bored it in a week
say that to my crab's face m8 you wont
>mirin dat qufim
>mirin jeuno palace
>dat harbor
>those landing airships
>the residential and commercial sprawl
>can't see the upper side round the corner but know it's there
>uuuge spiral walkway around the side
>to the east, over the bridge, lies the lands of the pygmies and their cats
>to the west, across the bridge, lies the lands of the humans and their bears
>to the north, past the bridge, lies the land of the elves with pointy sticks up their asses
hnnnnngh my heart
did somebody say elves?
...
If Miqo'te actually looked like Mithra I would really be happy.
...
Never return to XI. Not only will you hate it, it will actually make you hate the time you spent in XI before it became shit. It's that bad now.
did you two have a falling out? who got the kids?
Don't bully elves.
>should i go back
You left for a reason
I tried playing this game but the controls were so fucking bad,
play on a controller, problem solved
the kb controls are weird at first, but if you play enough you discover how good they really are
i wish other games controlled the way xi does, not needing a mouse at all is beautiful
Thanks for the smile. Have another view.
fuggin 300 people Valk doing xp and sub job
man that was both awful and awesome
i miss those memes, as shitty as they were
Please go back and stay there
XI was literally snorefest the game tho, just because people were more social back then doesn't mean the game was not boring by design
>playing mithra with supersampling on
Fucking bronze goddesses.
doesn't beat worm taru
